Except that may be what his worth is around the league. How many GMs think that Shawn Marion has the same value as Kevin Garnett? Not many, I'd think.

That's why MIN gets Chandler/Deng/Jones/#21 all for giving up Garnett. If we could work a straight PHX-MIN trade so they get Marion/Jones/#21/ATL#1 and we get Garnett, then I would go for that, too....

Chicago wants Garnett, they won't be part of a trade that sends Garnett to us.

Geez, why would everybody else want to help the Suns out is beyond me.

Chicago would give Minn a deal with best picks and young players for KG. The only chance for the Suns to compete is to include KT why taking some of the bad contracts like Blount, Hudson, Hassle of their hands. As competing deals:

Chicago: #2, Sweetner (or Songaila), Gordon, a future 1s for KG

Suns: Marion, KT, LB, Atl pick for KG, Blount, Hassell.

With Suns deal, they will have some cap space in 2 years when KT's expires. This might beat out Chicago's offer.

That's a HORRIBLE trade for us. I wouldn't even think about it. Marion, Barbosa and a 1st rounder would be the most I would ever give up.

Remember that everybody resurrect their career with the Suns. So, don't judge Blount and Hassell for what they are with their current and past teams. Blount is quite athletic and might have a chance to turn around his career with us. Hassell is a good defender and 3pt shooter, what the Suns can't have enough of.

Kevin Ray doesn't know what he is talking about. He said he would absolutely not trade Marion for Garnett and that Garnett is an Amare clown, wow. Even if he is an Amare clown he would still be better than Shawn Marion at everything.

Now he is saying the Suns should trade away their picks for future picks because they couldn't get anyone to help them right away, offer Tim Thomas only the veteran minimum to keep him...

Bah, if we trade away our picks again I will be pissed of.

I don't know if Minnesota asked for Marion and Diaw for Garnett and #6, that would be a tough call.

No it wouldn't. That's an easy No for the Suns. Diaw is their second best player until Stoudemire proves he can basically play.

In particular, with Diaw on the team, we could make do with many tweener like LB as backup for Nash and still win games. Diaw will command about the Prince money, say 5 year 45mil. So, the price/performance ratio is actually better than KG's!

Actually, if nobody gets KG, I'd do a Marion+ Tsiti + Grant + #27 for Deng, Songaila, Duhon, and Chicago's #16 trade. We could then sign TT for 5 year 25mil.

Diaw stays at all costs. In my mind, Diaw, Nash and Stoudemire are absolutely untradeable. I'd prefer to keep Barbosa and Bell, but if the right offer came up, I'd be reluctantly willing to let one or the other go (preferably Barbosa). Other than that, Marion, Jones, KT (though that blows up Amare's plans) and anyone else under contract can be had. Tim Thomas is a must-sign FA for us. We have to start next season with at least Nash, Bell or Barbosa, Tim Thomas, Diaw and Stoudemire. That has to be our core for next year....

Depending on the price tag. I think if he comes reasonably, Thomas should be re-signed. If it turns in to a bidding war with someone else, I'm reluctant to see the Suns engage in too heavy of one.

What happened to all the Marion for AK47 trade talk from last offseason? I actually liked the proposal at the time if he could stay healthy.

didn't Utah just sign AK to a 8 yr deal? IIRC he gets max as well, so it would be a 1 for 1 trade. That would mean no cap relief at all, which is one of the main reasons we'd want
to get rid of Marion right? correct me if i got it all wrong

Right and KG will give us a lot of cap relief....

Pretty smart of you to compare the effect AK47 will have to what KG will.

I figured the least anyone would know before talking NBA trades is the difference between an AK47 and a B-52 bomber jet, the difference between AK and the 2003-2004 NBA MVP .

duh!

Suns will not trade Marion unless its form cap relief for Diaw/Barbosa and Picks.

Its either Marion or cap relief/picks... Getting Garnett is not logical, since the Suns have Amare and Diaw, and Marion is atleast PROVEN to be successful in this system and next to Amare/Diaw.

What's the proof? That group has played all of three games together, and Stoudemire was worthless in two of them.

Look I had a discussion with someone that always seems to have the inside word. He has been way ahead on some really big stories and sometimes flat out misses cause it turns out to be rumor.
The discussion lately is that Minnesota is putting together a package to offer the Phoenix Suns.
Minnesota 100% gauranteed wants to deal their #7 pick this 2006 draft.

Minnesota #7 2006 pick first round rookie draft

to Phoenix

Kurt Thomas
#21 pick first round rookie draft

The deal is when franchises are happy with their prior trades with each other they tend to look at that teams roster again for trade possibilities.

===================================================================================================================

Then the 2nd trade is the following between Bryan Colangelo and the Phoenix Suns. This trade is a very simple straight up trade.

Suns send
#21 pick overall
1st round pick of Atlanta next season
Kurt Thomas - cap relief 8 million per year and doesnt fit in.
SHawn Marion - a player that BC absolutely feels is the most explosive player on the suns. While Robert Sarver feels he is the highest paid 15.6 million and we could get better value elsewhere.

Toronto
# 1 overall 2006 rookie draft (highest 3 players rated for the Suns are 1. Andre Bargnani 2. Brandon Roy 3. Adam Morrison)
Charlie Villaneuva (6-11 small forward)
Jose Calderon

Summary; This would free the Suns 24 million dollars in cap relief, which they would leave them 17 million after resigning Boris Diaw. That is alot of money to have free under the cap. It allows the Suns to stay cap friendly and puts this lineup on the floor.

Andre Bargnani ( tore up Chris bosh in preseason game last year)
Amare Stoudemire
Charlie Villaneuva
Raja Bell
Steve Nash
6th man - Boris Diaw
Leandro Barbosa
Jose Calderon
+16million to trade or pick up another player in free agency either 2006 season or 2007 season. That is a very tough team considerring the amount of cap space they would have projected.

I just wanted to print this whether it goes down or not I think you will hear about this very early summer. Again it could be Adam Morrison or Brandon Roy also.

Would you trade Marion and #21 to Chicago for #2, #16, and Duhon? Chicago might be willing to make that trade. If it's not enough we have the pieces to
put in the deal that could satsfy the Bulls.

Responding to an earlier thread -

It is my belief that Diaw will now command "near max" extension. I think 5 years and $45M was his worth in mid April. He was big in the playoffs after the first couple of games. Therefore - Marion has to go - for Cap Relief. I just want a shotblocker and a backup point in return. No Garnett.

... btw, Sam Cassell is a Unrestricted FA next year... not a bad backup to the "Rook". I wonder if he would sign for cheap and take a back seat in order to win another ring...

If we're going to trade Marion, see if BC wants him. They have cap room; give him Marion and our two first rounders for the #1 overall.

thats probably the worst trade i've seen here in this thread. that sets us back SO much its not even funny. if we were talking about NEXT year's draft, then i'd be all over it, but there is not going to be any player this year with Marion's skill set. AND we give up our first rounders? no way.

IF money is an issue this offseason then the suns will have to decide who we need to keep on this team, and the way i see it, we can keep two of 4 guys:

Marion or Diaw or KT/Barbosa.

i vote for Marion and Diaw, which means that i think that KT and Barbosa will be dropped. i think KT has fallen off the rotation based off of what we saw against the mavs. KT keeps us from running and we want to RUN. he no longer fits in with our plans IMO. Barbosa will be up for an extention, and the money that we and other teams will be offering MIGHT be too much for a backup tweener.

i vote for:

Suns trade:
KT/Barbosa/#27

Hornets trade:
Brown/Snyder/#12

we get an expiring contract that offsets Diaw's extention, keeping us from going over the $70mil line in salaries for the 07/08 season. Snyder would be a more than decent backup SG for us, and the #12 would be great for either a PG or a PF/C.

maybe Sheldon Williams, Cedric Simmons, and MAYBE Marcus Williams with the #12

and maybe someone like Marty Collins or Rhondo with the #21.

Amare/Brown
Diaw/Williams or Simmons
Marion/Thomas/Jones
Bell/Snyder
Nash/Collins or Rondo
