Every starter was bad last night. Every one was on the minus side of +/-. Poor shooting from Knight and Bledsoe, and too many TOs for Bledsoe. Bledsoe had 2 assists in the 4th quarter, but was noticeably absent otherwise. Knight hit a 3 and had one assist in the 4th quarter, but was otherwise ineffective. This is the starting backcourt. Just not good enough when both are having poor games.
Booker was great, but he still is a defensive liability and had 5 fouls, whether warranted or not. I wanted to see him out there, but I can understand it a little. So the bench (plus Leuer) plays great. But you can't just leave them out there for the entire second half. At some point, the starters need to pick up some of the heat here. They were pretty bad.
The Pistons attempted 3 times as many free throws (44!) as the Suns, yet the both had about the same number of points in the paint. So it wasn't because the Suns were just jacking up shots. Explain that one (other than fouling Drummond on purpose, which they did for 8 FTs, I believe).
I don't think Hornacek is in trouble this season. These are the growing pains of a team where two of your best/exciting players are first- and second-year guys. Len is nice and still a year or two away, IMO. Bled and Knight are just too streaky as SGs and not great assist guys as PGs. Both CAN do it from time to time, but they don't with consistency.
