I thought it did, but in another thread you told me it didn't, and I didn't bother to look it up. Oh well, at least now we know for sure.

So, in my scenario, the Suns would have to decline the TPE in order to still be able to sign Warrick and so the only benefit would be possible draft pick(s). But as long as Amare is willing to take NY's offer, NY has no incentive to do a S&T. Not like there are other teams competing with NY for Amare's services at the moment.

It does seem like the Suns jumped the gun again on locking up Warrick. Doesn't look like he had any other offers yet.

Maybe another team will jump into the amare mix and drive the price up some. that coulsd force a s&t. not likely

People like to claim that "the SUNS will never be a great defensive team"......and that those members of the fanbase "should just stop clamoring for it" and "get over it" ...are freakin messiah's of the culture here.

Locking up Channing ****ing Frye is the Suns first and foremost answer to this offseason after playing to within 2 games of the NBA Finals?!?

My days as a fan of this ultimately mediocre, paper tiger showboat basketball franchise are seriously numbered.
I hate this,i don't stray from MY SPORTS TEAMS....
I've been watching and cheering for this team for the last 29 years and it's really quite obvious that The Phoenix Suns JUST DON'T GET IT.

Sure, there are several other franchises that don't get it either, but the manner in which the SUNS have enjoyed nice success over the longterm while at the same time being unwilling and too impatient to try a different path is just simply baffling to me.....frustrated and Stupified.

****

Sorry about my rant.

I hear ya. I don't really jump from teams either. However, when the Nets move to Brooklyn I am going to be a big time Nets fan and still be a Suns fan. My dream was to have a team in Brooklyn that I could root for and hopefully that comes to fruition!

If the Suns have renounced his rights AND there isn't a serious bidding war for him, this FA signing has deleveraged Amare and might keep his price down. Good. Not that it matters to us....

Too late.

:barf:

So all those that wanted the Suns to let Amare walk....we replaced him with the Juggernaut that is Warrick and Frye. Both are sub par defenders. One dissapears offensively on the road and the other is not good offensively period.

What the hell? I said it before and I will say it again. If you were going to let Amare walk, at least replace him with someone who can defend and rebound.

You can't tell me there were not other trade scenarios the Suns could have at least explored. Holy crap.

What makes you think we "let Amare walk"?? We made him a $96.6 Million offer! We placed in conditions. He had to play a certain amount of minutes in year 3 to receive his guarantee in year 4. He had to play a certain amount of minutes in year 4 to receive his guarantee in year 5.
Seems extremely reasonable to me. Amare turned it down... hmmmm....

The funny thing is that his five-year "max" offer from the Knicks will be for only a few dollars more, and he'll be playing for a worse team. You can't always count on a player to make a good decision for himself. I feel a little sorry for Stoudemire, but he is what he is.

you guys are failing to understand the power of "guaranteed." amare's not dumb enough to fail to realize the same thing that is keeping sarver from guaranteeing the final 2 years of the 5 year contract is exactly the reason amare needs to take a contract with guaranteed years.

This

Amare has cycled through at least four marketing agents in his career because he felt they weren't selling his name as aggressive as he wanted. I truly believe he is under the impression that he is on the same level as LeBron, D-Wade and Kobe and should be compensated as such. Any team could have offered him $.37 more and pocket lint and he would jump at the chance. It's all about the Benjamins with him. Whatever. We all have our priorities in life. I still love Amare to death as a player, but if this is the road he wishes to take, then so be it. The Suns will live w/o him.

Regardless... the point I was addressing was about Sarver "letting Amare walk"... IMHO, we made Amare a very well thoughout offer. One that is incredibly fair to Amare. You simply can't deny facts... facts that include the multiple surgeries Amare has had over his career, including the microfracture... I believe Sarver made the right move with how he structured the offer. Don't get me wrong, I have other issues with Sarver and how he deals with his employees, but in case of Amare, I find little fault there.

i agree, i wouldn't have offered him 5 years guaranteed max. but i don't think this is a case of little fault with amare. something tells me a truly good GM/owner combo would have had amare tied up before this point for a reasonable contract. i realize that's pure conjecture, but if you look at all the "big player FAs" in this period amare is the only one coming from a team that was just in the conference finals in a city that allows him his deficiencies, playing with arguably the best distributing pg in the league. all the non-tangibles are there. all they had to do was come up with a reasonable contract that both sides could live with. i think a good gm/owner combo could have accomplished that. now of course it's entirely possible that amare was always planning on leaving, or always wanted max money. we'll never really know either side of the story.

That sounds nice... but, the reality is that Amare has not been Max-worthy at any point in his career. And, IMO, until the 2nd half of this season, he wasn't even a notch below Max-worthy. Couple that with all of his injuries/surgeries, and I just don't know if any other GM would have been able to do much else than what has just happened with Amare.

Of the last four years, Amare has only been at full strenth for about a season and a half. That has not been a good investment. It might be over now for a while. That is a risk the Knicks (arguably the richest team in basketball) can take.

It really hasn't worked out so well for us. He has been injured, and at times unmotivated. He claims he was not taught to play D, so that is why he did not do it. Now he is going to go play for the coach that did not teach him to play it.

I am not a Sarver fan, but I don't blame him on this one. If Amare wants to further his career, DAntoni is not the coach to help him do it.

I don't think you understand what I am saying. The Suns made a conscience decision to take their chances with Amare and free agency. There were avenues the Suns could have taken to either lock Amare up or trade him before he became a free agent. That is what I meant by letting him walk.

By the way, I was not advocating signing him to a long term deal. Although I would choose that over having a starting combo PF of Warrick/Frye any day. Also, the NY deal "simply" wasn't about a little more money. It was about guaranteed years and if I was Amare I would have taken the guaranteed money too. It was a good business decision on Amare's part. Not to mention that it increases the chances of getting another FA signing in NY.

Teams like NY that have a lot of money look at it like they may only get 3 good years out of Amar'e, but to get him, they will pay the five, and eat the last two if they have to. They look at it as a shot to get a Championship in the first three years he's there. Face it, if having Amar'e in hand makes their chances to get LeBron better, it was worth the $100 million to them. All the other teams are telling LeBron who the "could" get, while NY can tell him who they DID get.

As the person above stated...

Knicks are in desperate move to nab a STAR FA and increase their chances on LeBron..
Going all out to win one in the next 3 years..

Suns have always been a threath to win one, unlikely but still up there among the playoffs year in and year out.. exception with Porter of course.

Suns are in their phase where, they are trying to rebuild a new core...... young core and be prepared for the new CBA also..... Knicks, Bulls, Lakers etc they dont care if they are crippled in the long run, they want to splash NOW.

Around the all-star break, the rumors were flying all over the place that the Suns were making every effort possible to trade Amare. It didn't get done and we ended up experiencing a terrific season. I just don't know what else you guys want? Kerr was looking to make the trade and the right deal didn't happen. I think we need to accept this and move on...

Bottom line is the Suns were NOT going to offer Amar'e the max. We are the closest to him and we had injury concerns. I heard Houston had some concerns about Amar'e's knees, too. Evidently, NY didn't. Or NY didn't care.

I cannot figure out any way short to giving in the Amare that the Suns were going to keep him. From what I can tell, all the REAL trade proposals were from teams offering crap. At a certain level, cap space is worth more than crap.

I second that.

The offers for Amare were insulting...better off with the cap space. Besides, Phoenix has usually attracted free agents at a decent rate.

I'd agree with this if the cap space hadn't been used on Frye and Warrick.

So, what will be our new slogan? We're number 15!!! We're going half the way! Come watch us play, please! Or will we be like some of those teams that advertise upcoming games solely on the strength of the players coming in to town to beat up on us. I can hear Sarver now - "mediocre, shmediocre, as long as we sell tickets I'm a happy duck"

Does anyone remember the old days of banking?

Open an account and receive a free toaster.

Come to US Airways Center and receive a free convection oven.

Just for the Suns, of course. The Mercury, despite their struggles this year, have won two league Championships in the past few years.

That is not the entire cap space we have as a result. Between the 2 of them they will average about half as much per season that Amare would. This allows us enough space to offer a max deal to someone next year should there be someone worth it.

Hmm...Please tell me who will be available next year that is worthy of a max deal.
