My God, where is Sarver's cheapness when we need it? I'm going to kill myself. I am. Frye/Warrick for 10M? When he wouldn't give that same figure to Joe Johnson back in the day, and cost us three rings over it? The guy is on full tilt. He's completely lost his mind. I'm wandering into traffic.

I don't agree with the direction or strategy this team is taking at all. Warick makes a nice bench player, so I don't have a problem with a 3 year and a team option for a 4th. But 30 @5 years for Frye is a bad contract, and I think the Suns will be trying to trade him by this time 2011.

My take is that the Suns are trying to maintain, Sarver isn't ever going to let the team drift to the bottom tier of the NBA, he loves the short term revenues, we are more likely looking at the teams we had in 1995 (pre Kidd) or the teams we had post McDyess. Sarver I believe would rather have a mid teir competitive team that isn't a tax payer than a team that completely rebuilds from scratch. I for one think that strategy will just cause us to suffer a lot. We will be good enough to make the playoffs but never bad enough to bring in elite young talent. We have become the clone of the Indiana Pacers.

Why??

We had the bird rights of Amare, Frye and Amundson plus the MLE.

We could have resigned Frye and use the MLE on Warrick. No? Seems simple to me.

Suns don't have Frye's Bird or Early-Bird rights. He was only under contract for 1 season and you need to be under the same contract for 3 and 2 years respectively to gain those rights.

So, what will be our new slogan? We're number 15!!! We're going half the way! Come watch us play, please! Or will we be like some of those teams that advertise upcoming games solely on the strength of the players coming in to town to beat up on us. I can hear Sarver now - "mediocre, shmediocre, as long as we sell tickets I'm a happy duck"

Dumb. There was no rush to consummate a deal with Warrick. Limits flexibility with a Amare S&T or a barbosa deal.

No it doesn't.

If we hadn't signed Frye to a more ridiculous deal, I would be fine with this. Warrick is a good player for our system, and I don't think that 3 year, 12million with a team option for a fourth year is unreasonable for the kind of production he gives you. We just don't need both of them.

That means a sign-and-trade is off the table as well.

Actually after further thought it technically doesn't mean a S&T isn't possible. Suns can have which ever team is acquiring Amare S&T Warrick to the Suns as part of the deal.

As far as I know there are no rules prohibiting a team for doing a S&T with a player that wasn't previously under contract with them.

Edit: that being said I don't see any chance of this happening.

At this point I am reserved that this season the Suns will be just ok, I'll still watch. BUT... is anyone else afraid that Robert Sarver might actually like playing GM? He is essentially making the moves now, and he might be having a blast. Scary **** man.

No, you can't S&T another team's free agent.

What he said. Frye's contract can only be cap space (or the MLE, which is equivalent in this case).

I guess that makes sense. They could still work out a S&T with the Bulls if they get a TPE large enough. Of course they would need to add incentive.

It most certainly does. Come July 8th the Suns will have to renounce Amare in order to sign Warrick. If Amare has not decided on a team at that point it prevents the Suns from completing a S&T trade unless they tell Warrick to wait. Additionally, by signing Warrick with cap room, it limits the additional salary the Suns could take back in a potential Barbosa trade. By not waiting to get Warrick it hurts the flexibility of the Suns this offseason significantly.

Amare is going to sign or be dealt somewhere before July 8th anyway. They can still S&T him until them.

How long have I called for Warrick!!!! I'm so happy right now!!!!

He's the mini Amare Stoudemire...

Didn't Warrick drop 21 and 10 on the Suns this past year?

why so doomsday? he's a mini amare on offense but a super amare on defense because he actually tries.

What leads you to believe this? Warrick is probably less of a defender than Stoudemire and is definitely less of a defensive rebounder.

He's using his Syracuse orange colored glasses.
