Hakim Warrick and Channing Frye? Talk about shooting for mediocrity. Still have to keep our cool and not throw our future at Amare...

GRAB YOUR BARF BAG

Too late.

:barf:

So all those that wanted the Suns to let Amare walk....we replaced him with the Juggernaut that is Warrick and Frye. Both are sub par defenders. One dissapears offensively on the road and the other is not good offensively period.

What the hell? I said it before and I will say it again. If you were going to let Amare walk, at least replace him with someone who can defend and rebound.

You can't tell me there were not other trade scenarios the Suns could have at least explored. Holy crap.

Well, obviously you didn't want Amare. Bosh nor Boozer were available either. You could maybe argue David Lee, but he is going to get 10M +. What else is there after that? Drew Gooden, definitely pass. Milicic? I would have been ok with him but people were would have blasted the move.

So, what will be our new slogan? We're number 15!!! We're going half the way! Come watch us play, please! Or will we be like some of those teams that advertise upcoming games solely on the strength of the players coming in to town to beat up on us. I can hear Sarver now - "mediocre, shmediocre, as long as we sell tickets I'm a happy duck"

That could be us... SARVER SELL THE TEAM YOU ******.

Really like the deal on Warrick. Whether he ends up as a starter or back up (which I hope) I bet we look back at this deal and think its quite the bargin. At the very least he is active and long, and Nash is def good to get him an extra 4ppg.

So now we have the best bench in the league. So who are the other 4 players we are going to sign to play with Nash? ;)

I think you're talking about a grand total of one person. The rest of us wanted a sign and trade but recognized that as bad as it would be to let Amare walk, signing him to a max deal would be even worse.

welcome to the "Come see [insert "kobe/lebron/wade/amare"] play against YOUR phoenix suns" years . . .

cmon dude. Drop the drama. Amare is not at the level of the other three.

And only three teams have those players, and I don't see them folding up shop. I'm super excited for all the diefying of Amare thats going to come for the next three months when he eventually signs with the Knicks. Such revisonist history.

Not everything is rosy in Suns land but the melodramatic nature of this bored is exhausting.

This from Coro:

Point, tweeters. Suns checked today & there's no way to do a beneficial sign-and-trade. Amare's rights still won't be renounced til the 8th.

It sure sounds like Sarver and whoever else decided to agree to terms with Warrick didn't know they'd lose the ability to sign and trade Amare. If true, that is beyond pathetic.

Then again, the Warrick AND Frye agreements can't be made until the 8th either. As of now, they are just verbal agreements. Don't see us going back on them, but the possibility still exists.

Find it hard to believe that even Sarver would tempt fate with that kind of mojo.

So can someone tell me if this is a possible scenario? Assuming the Suns haven't renounced Amare's bird rights yet, they sign-and-trade him on July 8th to New York for a $17M TPE (and maybe a draft pick). I've read that the TPE does not count against the cap. So now they have $11M under the cap to work with (since Amare comes off the books and we don't acquire any players in the trade) before signing anyone. They use $10M to re-sign Frye and to sign Warrick, so the agreements have been honored. After that, they still have a $17M TPE they can use later plus whatever pick(s) we got in the trade.

No one should be complaining about Sarver here. Amare wants 100 mil for 5 years with crappy defense, rebounding, and bad knees. The Suns gave him a damn good offer and he turned it down. Time to move on. I'm glad they got Warrick back because at least he is a body down there. There's very little chance the Suns could have done something bigger anyway. Live with it.

We won't ever win a ring with Amare so its not like we lost something amazingly great. We'll be back folks ;)

That's incorrect. The TPE does count against the cap.

The current CBA is pretty good about closing all of those loopholes. I think the only big one they missed was how players can get traded away and waived, then re-sign with their old teams a month later. Expect that to be eliminated next time around.

Not sure about the specifics, but this kind of thing has happened before, the best example is Carlos Boozer--although it was Boozer the player and not Cleveland's front office that reneged on their verbal agreement.

I have no doubt things might be different had the MRI Amare had in Miami went better than it did.

I thought it did, but in another thread you told me it didn't, and I didn't bother to look it up. Oh well, at least now we know for sure.

So, in my scenario, the Suns would have to decline the TPE in order to still be able to sign Warrick and so the only benefit would be possible draft pick(s). But as long as Amare is willing to take NY's offer, NY has no incentive to do a S&T. Not like there are other teams competing with NY for Amare's services at the moment.

It does seem like the Suns jumped the gun again on locking up Warrick. Doesn't look like he had any other offers yet.

I don't remember ever weighing in on this question before, but I apologize if I got it wrong. Maybe I said it doesn't count for luxury tax, or maybe I said it can't be used to sign a free agent.

Hahaha look at people make fun of us!

"Warrick was the forgotten man on the Milwaukee Bucks last season, even after signing a relatively cheap deal with the team during the offseason. Traded to Chicago in February, Warrick was the frustrating man -- alternating bouts of strong interior moves off feeds with terrible defensive and rebounding habits.

And it's because of this that Hakim will fit right in. He's a mini-Stoudemire, down to a T. He can finish in traffic. He can make smart moves with his wiry body on the fly, especially after catching a tough pass. He can run the floor and he can pop accurately from 15 feet. He can also lose sight of his man defensively, which is hard to do as a power forward, and he's almost certainly no help in terms of rotation or help defense."

Sounds like we underpaid him.

People like to claim that "the SUNS will never be a great defensive team"......and that those members of the fanbase "should just stop clamoring for it" and "get over it" ...are freakin messiah's of the culture here.

Locking up Channing ****ing Frye is the Suns first and foremost answer to this offseason after playing to within 2 games of the NBA Finals?!?

My days as a fan of this ultimately mediocre, paper tiger showboat basketball franchise are seriously numbered.
I hate this,i don't stray from MY SPORTS TEAMS....
I've been watching and cheering for this team for the last 29 years and it's really quite obvious that The Phoenix Suns JUST DON'T GET IT.

Sure, there are several other franchises that don't get it either, but the manner in which the SUNS have enjoyed nice success over the longterm while at the same time being unwilling and too impatient to try a different path is just simply baffling to me.....frustrated and Stupified.

****

Sorry about my rant.
