Somebody be on the lookout...all the Suns' trophys have been stolen.

ha ha ha! oh gosh, that's funny! that's really funny! do you write your own material? do you? because that is so fresh. "all the Suns' trophys have been stolen." you know, i've, i've never heard anyone make that joke before. hmm. you're the first. i've never seen anyone use an empty trophy case like that before. because the suns haven't won any championships, right? isn't that it? it's just a picture of an empty trophy case, and yet you've taken that and used it out of context to insult the suns! god, what a clever, smart guy you must be, to come up with a joke like that all by yourself. that's so fresh, too. any titanic jokes you want to throw at me too, as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity? god, you're so funny!

How come we have thread after thread of Cardinal 1st Round busts....but the Suns get off scott free?? Check out this impressive list:

Armon Gilliam
Anthony Cook
Oliver Miller
Malcolm Mackey
Mario Bennett
Jake Tsakalidis
Casey Jacobsen
Zarko Cbarkapa

Maybe they aren't too cheap to pay a first round pick.....they just really suck at making them. Could have easily added Tim Perry but you got Barkley for him.

here's the difference NEZ - with the Cardinals, their busts are ALWAYS top 5, at most top 10, whereas the Suns busts come at the end of the first round where it's always a gamble.

When the Cardinals draft a Shawn Marion at 9, an Amare Stoudamire at 9, a Dan Majerle at 9 at Steve Nash at 13, a Cedric Ceballos at 46, a Jeff Hornacek at round 7 and so on and so on, maybe then you'd see those threads.

But considering that for the most part, whenver the Suns have had the opportunity to make and impact pick, they've done it and been a successful franchise whereas the Cards get the chance over and over and over and over and over again and continually whiff and thus they have sucked ass for 50 years.

Funny thing. I just saw that NEZ is a Cubs fan. Makes this thread about the Suns and an empty trophy case very funny.

Majerle was pick #14 but that is splitting hairs.

The Suns have a collossal collaps in them. 1987 Armon Gilliam....#2 overall.
Steve Nash was traded away and blossomed in Dallas.
Marion is made the scape goat for every PHX loss.
And Amare is still a question mark.

Some of the Cardinals biggest busts have been 2nd rounders. McElroy, Sacca, A Thompson, Arrington. Those are around the same numbered pick as the Suns. There is a double standard in the Valley....you can't really deny that.

The Suns choke away the Houston series in the mid 90s and everybody coddles them. The Cards choke on MNF and they are villified. Double standards.

What difference does it make?? I'm only talking about the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft anyways.

And the 2 round thing is recent.......I'm talking back since 87 and 88 when the Cards got here.

Okay, lets start with 1987. What was the Card's pick? Kelly Stouffer?

At least Gilliam played 12 or so years.

You should easily be getting production out of your first 2 round picks in the NFL. And the 1st round pick in the NBA should be solid.

Stouffer
McDonald
Harvey
Jeffery
E. Hill
J. Wolf
Reeves
A. Thompson
Swann
M. Jones
Sacca
Hearst
Dye
Coleman
J. Miller
Levy
F. Sanders
S. Rice
McElroy
T. Knight
J. Plummer
Wadsworth
Chavous
Boston
Shelton
Rutledge
T. Jones
R. Thompson
L. Davis
KVB
W. Bryant
Fisher
B. Johnson
C. Pace
Boldin
Fitzgerald
Dansby
Rolle
Arrington
Leinart

Gilliam
Perry
Majerle
Cook
Jayson Williams
Oliver Miller
Mackey

Finley
Bennett
Nash
Marion
Tsakalidis
Stoudemire
Jacobsen
Cabarkapa
Barbosa

You can argue who's a bust and who'd not all day.....but I just don't see where the Cards drafts are all that much worse than the Suns. Certainly not to the degree Suns fan and the media would make you believe.

By my count (which is probably slightly off as I did this quickly), thats 5 All-Rookie Team appearances, 2 MVP awards, 1 ROY award, and 14 All Star Game appearances for Suns first rounders since 1987. I counted 16 first rounders by the Suns.

In contrast, there is 1 ROY award and 14 Pro Bowl appearances by Cards drafted in the first or second round since 1987. That is with an incredible 43 players taken in the first or second round by the Cards. Thats about two and a half times as many picks as what the Suns have, yet they equal at best the accolades of what Suns draft picks have done.

Average first round draft position for the Cardinals: 8.3
Average first round draft position for the Suns: 18.8

So on average, the Suns draft over 10 spots lower than the Cardinals in the first round. The Suns have had one top five pick, where as the Cards have had five. The Suns have had four top ten picks, where as the Cards have had thirteen.

I am a fan of both teams, but I think it is very suffice to say that the Suns drafting has been a lot better than the Cardinals since 1987.

you're kidding right? First, that Suns team was BLOWN UP after that loss against Houston and they were villified.

The Cards are villified because they have won one playoff game and had one winning season in 18 years while at the same time the Suns have been in the playoffs 16 out of those 18 years and have played in 5 WCF and 2 NBA Finals. Gee, I wonder why there's a double standard? Maybe it's because one franchise is one of the most successful franchises in the NBA and the other franchise is one of the worst franchises IN ALL OF SPORTS. Give me a break Nez. This is the dumbest argument you've come up with yet.

see coyotesfan post to really get your ass handed to you.

It doesn't matter. NEZ doesn't have any real knowledge about this. This whole anti-Suns tirade is him trying to compensate for the fact that the Cardinals aren't doing well this year.

It sucks that the local football team has been woefully disappointing, but to turn around and take it out on the only local team that actually wins on a regular basis? Yeah, that makes sense.

I'm quoting you for your "fortune cookie" quote, Chap. A few months ago I got a fortune that something along the lines of "You struggle everyday for self-improvement. And it shows."

WTF?
Normally if someone told me this it might have angered or depressed me, but it coming from a fortune cookie just made me laugh. What kind of "fortune" is that? Aren't they at least supposed to be positive? It was too funny.

The difference is that the Cardinals have consistently drafted in the top 10 and the Suns have consistently drafted in the bottom 10.

That's quite a reach considering the state of Phoenix's championship trophy case.

You must be registered for see images

yes, Renz, winning a championship is the ultimate barometer of GREATNESS, but success doesn't have to equal greatness and you know it, especially in relative terms to the patheticness that is the Arizona Cardinals.

you can't argue with the fact that the Suns have one of th ebest winning percentages in the NBA since their induction, can you? Or that the Cardinals have one of the worst in all of sports, can you?

didn't think so.

I didn't comment on the Cardinals. Everyone knows their history is abysmal.

As for the Suns, if regular season winning % is your barometer of a franchise's "success" then more power to you. It makes all of Phoenix's playoff disappointments more palatable, I suppose.

You realize the Suns have never won anything either, right?? Or do you count 2nd place??

C'mon dude...the only team in this town that should get a free pass is the DBacks....and they get crushed harder than anyone.

Recounting titles doesn't justify much for the Lakers. It's like your mommy is the NBA title and you keep running back to her so you can feel better about yourself.

If the Suns were to win a title, you'd say "We have won this many!" as your response. With that logic, a celtics fan could come on here and say "We are better than the Suns."

I'm not discounting the Lakers past success. They have had some pretty good teams over the years. I think looking at this season and the future of the two franchises, the Suns seem to have more of an upside currently.

Absolutely they can, and should. Cheesebeef was talking about the Suns as one of the most successful franchises.
