Who's to say the current GM has any interest at all in Shumpert?

Felton? Sarver personally overruled Blanks and negotiated with Dragic in the parking lot. I don't see Felton coming here. Even as a backup.

I hadnt read that. Blanks liked Felton's "leadership". This is after he ate his way out of Portland and was absolutely loathed by that cities fans. Blanks said and did a lot of amazingly stupid stuff but that is a contender for the worst of them all.

And let Lance Blanks be exhibit A for any argument where someone claims that because a guy is in the job he obviously is better at his job and more knowledgeable than the average fan would be.

When the Suns fired Lance Blanks, it automatically made them a better team. They then went forward dramatically when they hired McDonough as GM and Hornacek as head coach. We can talk trade rumors all we want but it is comforting to know that McDonough will be making the decisions and he has already proven, more than likely, he will make good decisions.

That trade even has the Suns throwing in a pick... awful.

I'd rather have Bledsoe for the next 5 years than a broken down Chandler for the next year and a half. Ray Felton is absolutely awful, a fat bloated corpse of a basketball player. And while I liked the idea of getting Shumpert a few years ago I'm not as keen on him anymore he has not developed at all in 3 years, and not with a very similar prospect in Goodwin already in the fold.

I would also rather watch Len and Plumlee learn on the job than see them waste away on the bench while Chandler declines. Bledsoe might have more potential to be a star than anyone we are considering trading for including Hayward, Gay, Shumpert, etc. We might as well pay him.

Don't separate the Morris twins. Trade neither or trade both. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that keeping one and sending one away will devalue the one you keep.
Which says that bringing them together (whether for marketing purposes or to motivate each one to be better than if they were alone -- as if that should be necessary to motivate a millionaire NBA player) was eventually going to limit us in improving the team.

In retrospect, while it has gotten a little more out of both of them, was it worth limiting a GM's ability to make a trade to fill needs on the team? Are we the Phoenix Suns or the Harlem Globetrotters?

I'd give them Bledsoe, Okafor and one pick for Favors, Hayward and filler and I'm not sure they wouldn't make the deal. They have a high payroll and a bad team and they're only a year away from maybe losing both Hayward and Favors for nothing. I don't know much about them so maybe they're content with losing money for awhile but I'd certainly inquire if I were McDonough.

Nope, they just signed Favors to an extension in the offseason, and Hayward is a RFA.

This guy also proposed that Boston give the Knicks Rondo for all their expensive garbage including the walking corpse of Amare.

Chandler's not doing the Knicks any good. If they want to save a bundle they could just trade him to the Suns for Okafor straight up.

It seems that this is the guy that suggested the same garbage in a trade for Westbrook and Perkins from OKC... This guy is crazy. Chandler is a shadow of himself (just two years ago self).

I don't think it has anything to do with motivation. First off, I've never seen two male siblings as close as these two guys are. They behave more like lovers than brothers (minus the sexual aspect of that statement). I think if they were separated they'd try to give their best, I just don't think they'd stay apart any longer than necessary and they'd be somewhat distracted until reunited. It's an extraordinary situation and their closeness helps add cohesion to our team. Secondly, they present a unique problem to the opposition and any little thing that can possibly confuse a defense is a boon to your offense. Again, they have more value as a package.

It seems many of these rumors are reported at the same time. I often wonder if these reports are like monkey see, monkey do.

Here's a good one (this is not the entire article) http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/537938/20140210/nba-trade-news-rumors.htm#.Uvj2yvldV8E

The Suns recently had a trade talk with the Los Angeles Lakers for All-Star power forward Pau Gasol, before their negotiation hit a snag because of the Lakers' steep asking price for the versatile Spaniard.

With Rudy Gay likely to opt out from the final year of his deal to become a free agent this summer, the Suns are viewed as one of the front runners to sign the high-scoring forward. However, there are rumors that the Suns want to hammer a trade for Gay before the midseason trade deadline.

The Suns have all kinds of assets (young players, expiring contracts and draft picks) to make the offer enticing for the Kings. But Gay is not what the Suns really need to get over the hump.

Despite boasting one of the most explosive offenses in the league at 105 points per outing, the Suns are a mediocre ball club in rebounding (14th at 43.5 rebounds per game) and defensive department (21st at 101.8 points allowed per game). Acquiring an elite rim protector is a must for the Suns, and Knicks center Tyson Chandler is certainly up there in the list of outstanding defensive big men.

One interesting trade proposal is swapping incoming restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe for Tyson Chandler. Bledsoe is an outstanding young player with the potential to grow into an elite point guard. However, the Suns have thrived even without him thanks to outstanding play by Dragic and his backcourt running mate Gerald Green. Chandler is having one of his worst seasons as a pro, though the decline in his production is a result of the Knicks' sloppiness on the defensive end.

Breaking Down the Trade:

Knicks receives Eric Bledsoe, Emeka Okafor, and Marcus Morris or first-round pick. Suns acquires Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, and Iman Shumpert

This Knicks will get a promising young point guard in Bledsoe, Okafor's expiring contract, and another young stud in Morris or perhaps one of the four draft picks the Suns possess in the upcoming draft. On the other hand, the Suns will certainly improve their defense with Chandler without compromising their backcourt depth. Felton is a good backup playmaker while Shumpert can reach his full potential like Bledsoe under the tutelage of Hornacek.

I particularly like the idea that Gay will be opting out of a contract that will pay him 20mil next year and that any team would be clamoring for him. I doubt the author of that article has watched any basketball game not involving the Knicks in more than 5 years.

Their all bogus imo. Look at the Z-Bo rumor for example.

At first it was reported that we inquired about him but the Grizz said he isn't on the block. Now we made an offer for him and the Grizz said no.

Its the media that tries to put pieces together to make a story and get more hits.

They look at possible trade candidates for each team and then make a rumor surrounding that player and the team.

The one common denominator for all these rumors seems to be that we are looking for a pf (even Gasol, I think).

Maybe give them the Indiana pick. I wouldn't be thrilled with the idea but putting Plumlee into the deal makes some sense too.

Based on what I've seen I think the Morris twins need to stick together so long as it's feasible salary wise. Once their rookie deals are done it will be interesting to see what happens if both are still with the team. I don't think they are worth more than about 8 million per season combined. I think Markieff is the better of the two and would be ok without Marcus but I don't think Marcus is worth much without Kieff. That said Kieff is also at his best with Marcus so it's a tough situation.

Here is a stat I saw on a Suns.com article about them this season...

"Marcus and Markieff Morris’ chemistry is evident on the court as the twins are able to find one another in scoring position quite often relative to their teammates as 47.1 percent of Marcus’ assists this season have been to Markieff, and 34.1 percent of Markieff’s assists this season have been to Marcus.

Markieff is an MLE player, or maybe even higher, if he can sustain the production he's shown so far this season. Marcus's only value is the alleged positive effect his presence has on Markieff's play. By himself, Marcus is an unathletic SF with an average shot, no handle, and below-average defense. You can find a player like that anywhere.

That said Kieff is also at his best with Marcus so it's a tough situation.

I wish we knew if that were really true. Markieff didn't play any better last year once Marcus was acquired; it's been this season that Markieff has blossomed. Maybe it's because of Marcus, maybe it's because of Hornacek, or maybe it's some other reason.

Not to wish injury on anyone, but it would be useful if Marcus could roll an ankle and miss a handful of games, so we could see how Markieff does without him. The idea of keeping Marcus around just because we think Markieff needs him makes me nervous.

Indiana is looking to move Granger so they can re-sign Lance Stephenson. Granger is far from what he once was, but he is on an expiring. I think I'd be interested to see him here, see how he plays out the rest of this year and then potentially re-sign him to a much more affordable long term contract. It's been said McD is looking for scoring wing player, Granger would (or at least used to) fit that mold.

Okafor for Granger works straight up, but obviously Indy isn't going to do that, they may as well just let Granger walk. I wonder if they'd ship him to PHX for as little as having their own pick back? That may be not enough, though obviously the Suns have plenty of picks so there's room to negotiate.

If he works out and the Suns could then resign him to a 4 year/$30M deal or something of the sort going forward, that'd be a nice piece-- even though he's on the wrong side of 30.

The Pacers would save a bunch of cash doing this trade straight up because Okafor's contract is mostly insured whereas Granger is still owed his full salary. I would not throw in a first round pick unless it is for goodwill because the Pacers gave the Suns a smoking deal for Scola.

Yuck, more than 7 million for a guy on the decline who has trouble staying healthy? No way in hell I'd do that. Good teams don't overpay mediocre talent.

They absolutely do (see Perkins, Kendrick). But it often doesn't matter when you have a couple superstars in front of those guys. We need to land that star level player and I'm against anything that will prohibit us from doing that.

Jajaja, technically they didn't pay him (Boston did) and Perkins was thought to be the final piece. (which he obviously wasn't)

You knew what I meant.

I still find OKC's decision to not amnesty Perkins' worthless ass to make room for Harden as baffling as any decision that front office...or any front office...has made for a really long time.
