Alligator arms and helps fire up his teammates. HB does hit well for his size but DJ seems to bring a more forceful impact. It's a small sample size thus far but I really like what I've seen to this point.

Not to mention that Bill O'Brien has to be one of the worse leaders I've seen in the NFL, in a long time. I will never forget his chicken poop way of cutting players on Hard Knocks.

At South Carolina he reminded me a lot of A-Dub in the respect that he would occasionally get flagged for big hits that were totally clean. The refs would just assume that since the WR was destroyed it MUST be dirty. Remember that Wilson hit on Heap years ago? That's DJ in a nutshell.

I honestly don't think we will see much of a step down from HB to Swearinger. I think they are similar type players and Swearinger will fit in to the position HB played quite nicely. He will make some mistakes as he learns the defense but I think he will blitz just as effectively as HB and play well in coverage. I think his biggest challenge is playing hard without playing to the point of getting flagged.

HB is a tough loss, though I do like the potential of a bit more "violence" to our back end.

Doubt that the plan is for Swearinger to take up HB's "jack of all trades" role. More likely that Powers get's a few of those responsibilities.

He's been subbing for Minter on some passing downs, allowing Bucannon to drop into coverage.

The hit in my Avatar? A-Dub's reputation as a ferocious hitter caused many undeserved penalties.

At this point in the season, Swearinger is the best we could hope for to fill the void. Hopefully he can digest enough of the playbook and we put him in position to excel (blitzing off the edge).

They are not even close to the same player. DJ is not going to line up against a slot receiver, at least I hope not. There was talk of HB being the DPOY, at least he was in the running, and you think a street free agent is not much of a step down. I love your enthusiasm, but I just don't see it HB is a huge loss.

Yeah. AW is what I was thinking too. But also Bucannon. He is a guy who plays really hard and hits really hard. Don't know what he is like off the field, but its a really good pickup this time of year for this situation.

He will be a big drop off from Matthieu, that's just the fact. Matthieu is a rare, rare defender. But at least he adds depth and a new wrinkle.

I agree that Swearinger isn't going to take over full time for HB. I think your assessment is pretty much spot on with Powers rotating to the nickel back position and Swearinger being dime. I think they will use Swearinger in the same blitz packages as they used for HB. They might even run Jefferson in that spot since he has already been used there before. It will be interesting to see how they mix this up and could even be a problem for the other teams offenses because now they have to figure out who is coming on blitzes where before I think before they knew sometimes when HB was blitzing. You will probably see some new wrinkles and looks in the defense.

If anything I believe the defense will miss HB's anticipation on plays and the mental abilities of HB more than the physical abilities of HB. Honey Badger had a unique ability to read plays pretty darn well and that is the biggest thing that will be missed.

This is kind of a bold statement. I dont doubt that DJ has some similar playmaking ability, but he is replacing a legit DPOY candidate and has been in the system for only three weeks.

I'm hoping that the former 2nd round pick was cut only because of conflicts within the Texans's organization and not because he is a bust.
