Oh goodness. He tried to committ suicide. The report is pretty darn clear as was his answer that he was trying to hurt himself. He didnt go to OSU no need to defend him.

I have to defend him. He's on my fantasy teams;) . My point is there was probably alot of mass confusion going on and he was apparently out of it so he may not have even known what was being asked to him. I mean the timing and everything just doesn't make any sense at all. He doesn't want to get out of practice that badly, does he :D ?

Right, because when someone tries to klill themselves they worry about timing. I mean, really, what rational person would kill themselves on a Tuesday?

I wish him the best. If he did try to kill himself he needs to find help soon. My daughter inlaw has tryed at least 4 times to take her life. She has amany mental problems that make her depressed and very troubled. She has two wonderful children and a good husband and yet she trys to find a way out. TO as much of a pain in the behind as he is seams to be a troubled person going way back to his earlier years. I wish him well.

Regardless of his reasoning, he definitely OD'd. The intial reports that are still on KFFL state that the hospital staff was trying to induce vomiting - that is not the treatment for an allergic reaction to painkillers.

Thsi is not serious?? What the hell is she talking about??!

I would imagine she said that before the suicide angle was made public trying to spin the story before it got out.

If true, the news is bizarre, creepy and tragic.

(When TO appears on the TV screen, I invariably reach for the Remote and the mute button - but if his behavior throughout the past few years turns out to have been a manifestation of something more serious, the entire TO Comedy Show quickly turns into something really, really sad).

But before we jump to conclusions, the prime conveyer of so-called full story appears to be our friends at ESPN. They've been known to be wrong occasionally, of late, haven't they?

This is one of those stories that bears watching (without comment) as it develops.

He probably found out that Warner was going to start instead of Leinart. Mitch almost had a similar reaction.

This is really sad. It is has been obvious for some time that the guy has some real problems, but I have never thought that he was a bad guy. Hopefully he'll get some help and support from the NFL and they won't kick him to the curb like many other former players who experience these kind of troubles.

FYI the publicist quoted in the story is now denying it was a suicide attempt at all even though she was apparently the one who called the police and told them it was a suicide attempt.

Hopefully this will keep him out past Nov 12 when the Cards have Dallas at home, given the Cards CB situation.

I'm just partially kidding

But I blame the media for this, these guys keep this guy under the microscope, over his "on the field antics ", all this guys mistakes are Football related and this makes him an easy target for the media much like Ron Artest. The Ray Lewis's (Murder), Pittman/(Weaf Beater) and Culpepper(Boat Sex Party) all get a free pass.

I think it's kind of humurous that Deion is quoted in the story. Isn't he the one who supposedly drove his car off a cliff and was unharmed? Owens didn't attempt suicide. This story is way overblown. If he did wouldn't the hospital at least have him undergo some psychological testing before releasing him? Look at the chronological events during the day. There's nothing that even remotely leads one to think he tried to kill himself. Owens was seen laughing as he left the hospital. The woman who called 911 may have said suicide attempt to get a faster response from the EMT's. No way this is a suicide, now a very bad publicity stunt, i may believe that one.

ESPN has been reporting since last night that he just had a allergic reaction to a painkiller he'd been taking. So this report now is kind of odd but I guess it's too early to know the truth.

Weird.

Russ that is a nice way to say th kid tried to kill himself. ESPN is so PC it hurts. He was on these same Painkillers before when he was hurt. Most reparable Doctors would have verified what meds if any T.O. was allergic to before administering any narcotic. His livelihood is at stake.

not necessarily the story says suicide is not illegal in Texas so they have no legal way to keep him if he's recovered. Hospitals can certainly recommend it but I don't think they can force someone of legal age to have testing done if they don't want it and they appear to be rational. If Owens did try it and was still saying he was going to do it, that'd be a different case, but if he's now denying he even tried it I doubt they can force him to stay in the hospital.

Either way I hope he gets some help, I had a friend kill himself 2 years ago and I still can't believe he did it. There are a lot of options available to someone like Owens who has the financial means he does.

Well my suspicion is you're right but having had a very serious reaction to a combination of an antibiotic and an acid reflux medicine myself back in February I don't doubt that its' possible for owens to have such a reaction. And I also don't doubt it's possible he had a reaction before and was still prescribed the same thing again since many people simply don't pay attention to what medicines they're on and if they don't tell the doctor, the doctor won't know.

In my case I had a mild form of paralysis that had me barely able to get out of bed or walk. I went through a battery of tests and doctors including a neuromuscular exam that concluded with a doctor claiming I had botulism. Finally one of the doctors listened to me and said why don't you just stop taking both medicines and see what happens, and all the problems went away for good.

Why did you use Ron Artest as an example? Going into the crowd to go after a fan is not exactly "on the field antics".

And ESPN crucified Culpepper and the Vikings on that boat scandal, the difference is those guys all avoided the cameras like the plague whereas TO when he's had problems has sought out the cameras. You think he does situps outside his house because it's the best place to do it, or because he knows if he does them in his living room nobody will get it on camera?

Russ I am married to a NP who specializes in Neurology. She and I both feel that this kid needs help. He surly isn't going to get it from the Sports media, or even his team. To much pressure is put upon these young men; one must think tat there is more to life then to hound this player like he has been hounded in the past. We as fans and Media should realize that this kid is really reaching out for help, we should try to all try to give him our prayers and understanding.

Our prayers and understanding....PLEASE

He kicks dirt in the fans, media, players and coaches faces and we are to love him. What world is that from?
He never signs autographs for fans at camp, "I love me some me"

get off it....
