I say don’t even guard green to an extent. Make him be the scorer. Easier said than done.
That’s kinda what I’m intimating. Stay home on curry/klay/Poole, live with Paul in post defense against Wiggins, double off green if need to.

There’s nothing wrong with saying Jokic shouldn’t be MVP because of his team performance, but there is something wrong with misconstruing his individual performance to make that point. The team might not have a high enough ceiling but he’s been the floor, the walls, the doors, and the windows.
Well said.

I believe they’re a factor. I mean, we’ve never seen an mvp from a bottom third team, right?

Wasn't Steph a finalist last year? I know we're talking about winners but the criteria seems to change drastically.

Jokic deserved MVP last year. Is he better this year? I don't think so. The criteria should be a little higher since we're now talking about naming him MVP in back to back seasons. How many back to back MVP's have there been and where did their team finish?

I get that, but each season really should be viewed individually.

At least not a prevailing factor. The standard seems to be win differential with and without a player.

Great point. He was a finalist last year. His team finished in the 9 spot and got bounced without even making the playoffs.

I don’t know if that’s true. For teams where they don’t lose a player that’s impossible to figure out. I don’t know that there is a single “prevailing factor” that’s common to all voters, or even for a single voter across multiple years. That’s why there have been so many arguments about it over the years.

There are no clearly defined definitions and I'm not sure it matters with the media making the decisions. Ultimately they will vote on how they choose.

When I look at Jokic for MVP, as near as I can figure it, the standard seems to be the best win differential for a player on a playoff team. I'm not sure if the analytics support this.

If Jokic wins another MVP then Russell Westbrook was robbed of a few in the past. I know he got 1 but his team finished 6th the year he won and then 4th and then 6 in the West while maintaining that triple double average all 3 years. He was The Thunder.

He did it again last year in Washington. Never averaging less than 22 ppg. Granted in Washington he had Bradley Beal so I can see why his season there is an outlier. Still, stats just as impressive as Jokic, similar team success, and he was surrounded by scrubs like Jokic as well. Somehow he was really only in the conversation for his first year averaging a triple double because not only was he the first player in 4+ decades to do that but he also lead the league in scoring.

I think it's harder for a 6'3" PG to get double digit rebounds nightly than to build an offense around a big who is a good playmaker.

I thought you would enjoy this from Stephen A. Smith.

What Pisses me off about that is he’s saying if Utah loses Donavon Mitchell should demand out. Like it’s Utah fault not Mitchell’s

Let that be Booker and see how fast the media wants to dog him out.

If the Jazz lose in round 1 they should look to move on from Mitchell anyway. Either him or Gobert has gotta go.

It appears there is an issue between Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. The Jazz will need to decide who they want to keep.

For some reason Mitchell doesn't seem as dominant as he once was. I think they need to trade one of these two players.

There's been an issue between them for years.

Barkley on the new death lineup

"The Joker has to take advantage of playing against a six-foot-six guy. You can't tell me you're the MVP and they got Draymond guarding you," he said, before later adding, “y'all put that little death lineup out there, put it out there against Giannis and Joel Embiid and see what happens. They'll kill 'em.”

If you don’t think this nuggets team would be the worst in the league sans jokic you think more highly of the garbage players they trot out with him than I do.

I agree with Barkley. Particularly against Giannis. Against embiid it might work to tire him out. And he ain’t coming to challenge any three point shooter, so it may have more success against Philly.

I don't see where I disagreed but I'm not sure that should be the definition of an MVP, carrying less talented players.

Jokic may be carrying the Nuggets for years to come. I don't think that means he should be awarded the MVP every season.

There are 29 other teams in the NBA. There are other stars who sacrifice their game for the sake team. I don't think they should be penalized for circumstances beyond their control.

You literally said “I’m not sure the analytics support this” in regards to win differential with jokic.
