She is a terrible Mary Jane IMO. So, I have not kept up with this. Is this a complete reboot?

Complete reboot...and she's been cast as Gwen Stacy, not MJ. The first reports were wrong.

OK, I feel better about that but I can't picture her much as Gwen Stacy either. Also a complete reboot is still stupid IMO. It's still too soon.

I remember thinking the Batman franchise might be too soon to reboot but if this movie is not a great reboot like that was....this movie might go down as one of the dumbest studio moves ever.

I hate the retelling of these origins so damned often in these comic book movies. If you don't know how spider-man is spider-man, or why batman is batman, just roll with it...or ask just about anyone else on the planet and they'll tell you.

Or, if you must re-tell the story, do it in flashbacks that only take a couple of minutes.

seriously... another origin story... 8 YEARS AFTER THE ORIGINAL?! That's just freaking stupid.

blegh... the more I hear about this project, the more I become convinced that it will a disaster of Batman And Robin proportions.

I'm worried about it too but I am hopeful they can figure it out. Now word is Mary Jane will not be in the movie. I'm hoping this means it won't be an origin story. Maybe they will have a montage or something to explain things and have Uncle Ben only in flashbacks.

I'm a huge webhead...house full of Spidey comics and collectibles...and I have zero desire to see this film with every casting release. Bleh.

:yeahthat:

So far it is the only thing I like about this project...

Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy! How can you go wrong with a Scottsdale girl in this role? I'll watch it for her alone although it's not a part where they'll likely turn her loose. I'm hoping they kill Peter Parker off in the first five minutes and devote the rest of the time to letting Emma show off her incredible comedic acting skills.

Actually I am disappointed. I loved the idea in the other films of it being part of his DNA. The original concept of web shooter was stupid to begin with. I loved Spidey as a kid. Watched every cartoon version. The one thing I always disliked about the character was when he ran out of web. Hated it.

Still think this film is a huge mistake. Rebooting this soon has to be one of the stupidest things I have seen a studio do in a long time.

yup... and it's a COMPLETE reboot... i mean, high school, Uncle Ben's death, the whole thing. It's just stupid. The first one came out LESS THAN A DECADE AGO. No one wants to see the origin story again, ESPECIALLY considering how dead solid perfect they got it right in the first one.

I can see it being done better. :nokirstendunst: Not a big fan of last Spidey franchise.

really? i thought the first spiderman was the closest thing to the gee-whiz fun of the original Superman as far as comic book blockbusters go. I'm more a Batman guy than Spidey because I love the darker nature of the series, but I remember having a blast with the original spiderman, especially the first hour of it.

Upon further review, you are correct. Just went downhill from there.
