Considered by many as the most impressive talent in German football, Mario Goetze has been the subject of a recent offer only for Borussia Dortmund to respond by asking €35m for the 19 year old.

Goetze is understood to be happy to stay with the Bundesilga champions for one additional season before moving to Spain or England next summer. Wenger has failed to pursue his initial inquiry for Mikel Arteta, a decision that has frustrated the Everton midfielder.

"We are working hard to sign players," said Wenger who has been angered by criticism of Arsenal's recruitment efforts. " If we find the right players, we sign them. We have the money to sign them if they strengthen our team. We have 20 people to work on that."
Serious this time

Lots of updates:

Signed South Korean Park Chu Young, striker from Monaco.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7138506,00.html

Pretty much a done deal for Brazillian left back André Santos.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...nal-sign-6-2m-Brazilian-ace-Andre-Santos.html

Rumors this morning about Per Mertesacker, German CB.

http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/873868...rge-of-8m-arsenal-transfer-to-bolster-defence

So that pretty much covers LB, CB and Striker. Non of them huge signings but will at least add depth in some much needed areas.

There's even a rumor about Clint Dempsey, but it's from Goal.com and I generally don't believe a work they say.

Park, Santos and Mertesacker deals done.

Today they've added Mikel Arteta from Everton and Yossi Benayoun on loan from Chelsea. Both midfielders which was the last area that really needed help. I like the moves, don't think it's enough to really challenge but should keep Arsenal near the top. My biggest problem is why it took so long to do this. Everyone knew in June that Fabregas and Nasri were on their way out. They should have completed these moves (or similar ones) a month ago at least.

Bendtner was also loaned to Sunderland for the year. Wish he would have stayed as Chamakh has looked terrible since December. But Nik wanted regular first team action.

You're kidding, right? Bendtner is AWFUL. Chamakh isn't much better, but wishing that we kept Bendtner is loco. I like that we were able to come up with some decent signings. Granted, Fabregas was a tough loss, but even though I loved Samir, he only had a short stretch 2 years ago where he looked better than average.

This team will be built around Wilshire, but a center back pairing of Mertesacker and Vermaelen will be pretty nice to have. Assuming Verm stays healthy. But I even like Koscielny and Djourou as bench depth.

The key for Arsenal is for RVP to stay healthy and Andrei Arshavin to find some semblance of form. I really like the Gervinho/RVP/Theo front line. A lot. And an Arteta, Yossi/Ramsey, Wilshere midfield will be pretty interesting to see.

Not kidding about Bendtner. I think he gets more criticism than he deserves. He's not great but I think the biggest problem is that Wenger insisted on playing him on the wing. When he played up front he wasn't half bad. He does have his problems, first touch isn't great and he has an ego the size of Alaska. I don't think he's going to turn into a world class player either. But I would like to have a big, physical striker in the squad, someone who can actually score headers. Arsenal only have 2 of those, Bendtner and Chamakh. Between those 2 I'd take Bendtner.

Pretty much agree with everything else you said though.

Vermaelen out 2 months and Wilshere out 3 months with ankle injuries. Arteta and Mertesacker need to hit the ground running.

I wonder how much these injuries played into Arsenal's transfer dealings. If these 2 had been healthy, would they have brought in as many players? I would like to think yes because the new signings were needed even with everyone healthy, but somehow I doubt it.

I like the Mertesacker signing. Should help shore up that backline.

Happy with the tie today. Sucks to concede a goal so late but a point at Dortmund is a pretty good result considering all the circumstances.

Complete BS performance! Blackburn had only scored 3 goals so far this season and Arsenal give them 4 today. Blackburn only had 31% possession and scored 4, FOUR, goals. Just pathetic. This is what you get when you only shop in the bargain bin for years on end.

Did I mention that Blackburn scored 4 goals?

Nice 3-0 win last weekend but the injuries are really piling up, even by Arsenal standards. Playing Olympiakos later today and they only have one healthy CB, Mertesacker. Vermaelan, Djourou, Koscielny, Squillaci and Miquel are all hurt. They're going to have to move Song to CB today and I don't think they will have a backup for the game. Hopefully neither CB gets injured or sent off. Walcott, Gervinho and Benayoun are also out today. It was also announced that Wilshere's injury isn't healing as quick as they thought and he had to have surgery. He's going to be out until at least February.

Just laughable at this point. Lost to Spurs and Sagna broke his leg. They say he'll be out 3 months but it's Arsenal so he'll probably miss the rest of the year.

When it comes down to it, this squad had no margin of error to begin with. They aren't going to blow anyone away with their talent and aren't very deep. Sagna's backup, Jenkinson, was playing in the 5th or 6th division in England a year ago. If they were going just going to compete for anything (not even win, just compete), they would have needed to have no major injuries and have some luck on their side. Neither have happened.

Arsenal quietly putting together a few wins. Now up to 7th place. RVP has just been amazing. 29 goals in his last 34 appearances. Phenomenal. However, there is nobody to back him up. Hopefully he doesn't get injured as he usually does because Chamakh is awful. I don't know if there's a bigger gulf in talent between a starter and backup in the EPL than those 2.

Also, Vermaelan is back practicing and could play this week. Great news.

Holy crap what a win! Just a wide open game, chance after chance for both sides, especially in the 1st half. In the 2nd, Arsenal's defense got better, not great, but better and Chelsea just fell apart. Van Persie has just been phenominal. Can't really say much more than that. 7 goals in his last 3 EPL games and 28 goals in his last 27 games. Easily the best striker in the Premier League right now.

Even though they were essentially playing with a squad fit for an early-round Carling Cup game (aka B-squad), Arsenal deservedly get a lot of criticism for giving up 8 goals at ManU. However, ManU gave up 6 and now Chelsea gave up 5, at HOME, while playing with nearly all their 1st team players.

Lots of horrendous defensive performances in the EPL so far this season.

0-0 draw in the CL this week. Still top of the group.

3-0 win vs West Brom today. Unfortunately didn't really get to watch much of it due to a combination of me waking up 30 minutes into the match and then the online streams were crap. They're now tied with Liverpool and Tottenham with 19 points, although Tottenham still have to play this week. Have really moved up the table faster than even the most optimistic kool-aid drinker would have predicted.
