It would be interesting to see the Suns doing business without Robert Sarver's influence one day without a doubt if it's ever possible.

I would hope we find out something from the NBA investigation this summer. It's so quiet on that front I don't know what to think.

To be fair, Atlanta was incredible lucky in the lotto. That pick 2007 had something like 80% odds to fall to us between either 4-6 in the draft... they jumped up. Had they not jumped up most projections had us getting either Al Horford or Mike Conley.

Oof.
Kerr’s on record saying he would’ve taken Noah. By the time 2010 comes around he would’ve been the perfect 5 with Amare (assuming everything else broke the same).

Noah would really have been tailor made for the SSOL Suns - taking on the tough defensive assignments, rebounding, adding desperately needed toughness.

Probably nothing is going to happen in reality the reason it's been so quiet.

It could be or the NBA is waiting for sometime after the Finals to announce the findings.

I’m guessing They’ll wait until after the initial two week rush of FA and drop it right around NFL training camps kick into gear.

This could be. It's hard to anticipate how the NBA thinks. If the investigation is already complete, they may not want to take the chance of it being leaked much longer.

I have no idea where this NBA Update News page in Facebook comes from but according to them, Gregg Popovich has asked the Spurs organization to go hard at acquiring Ayton. According to that page, he expressed interests in developing Ayton and thinks he is worth the max to the Spurs. I have seen that page come up lots in my feed but don't know how legit it is. Looks like they aggregate stuff from all over the place.

If true, I am not surprised. I have said it before the Ayton is exactly the kind of player that Pop would think he can improve and develop. Pop would definitly use him differently than the Suns.

So there’s no source it’s just a headline? I’m skeptical on Ayton being a Pop type player.

See update above. It says it sourced from SA Today but I can't find that source. An old high school friend that lives in San Antonio told me it's a show of some sort over there. I am not familiar one bit. Could just be fan fodder.

Oh and when I say Pop type player I mean physical makeup. If Pop truly believes Ayton was underdeveloped here I don't think you can judge what Pop thinks about him based on what we have seen here. That would mean Pop thinks he could develop him into his type of player. Pop has that type of ego. Again, could be fan fodder.

Why? One of Pop’s favorite players of all time is LaMarcus Aldridge that’s the guy Ayton reminds me the most of.

I have a lot more faith in Pop developing young talent than Monty.

Ayton with Murray in that Spurs “system” would be really interesting

I think Ayton has been pretty good for us even if he's been a bit inconsistent. But I agree that Pop will likely get even more out of him than we did. Having said that, I still don't believe he's Pop's kind of player. But there isn't a Tim Duncan or David Robinson available so why wouldn't he want a big athletic young player whose floor is almost all star level?

That's not much return at all if one thinks about it. If Ayton elevates the Spurs those picks will be in the late teens or 20s and Poeltl is an expiring contract.

So it's close to Keldon Johnson for Deandre Ayton.

If this train is as far down the tracks as some think, there is a good chance we've had convos with the SA and Ayton's agent or will as the draft nears. It's possible SA could draft a guy we like at #9 if sufficient back channeling has been done.

Ayton and Murray are not a playoff team in the West. A play-in team, possibly, but I wouldn't expect much more from them. Those picks would be in the teens. There is simply too much talent in the West for them to overcome.

We can’t trade for a guy who’s about to be a FA. We would be putting ourself in a horrible situation

On second thought, you are probably right. That gives me McDyess flashbacks.

Dejounte Murray is a star and Deandre Ayton could become a star. That's a solid foundation.

And the Spurs would have one of Devin Vassel or Keldon Johnson and the 9th pick. I don't want to rebuild that team.

Because I think Pop's ego thinks he can develop Ayton into a similar player (his type of player). He has the exact body type Pop loves in a player. I am not saying he would turn into either of those players but Ayton is probably the closest thing to them he could potentially get his hands on.

Yeah, there could be a wink-wink deal but I'd rather let the Spurs draft and trade later. I like their scouts better.

When I say he's not Pop's kind of player I'm only talking about the makeup of the person, not his physical ability. Pop is said to prefer players that are only about the team, only about the outcome.
