Giants Statement (1/2): Last night, we were notified that a player tested positive for COVID-19. The player was immediately self-isolated, and the contact tracing process was initiated. Two close contacts, both staff members, were identified and were informed to remain home today

The Washington Football Team is going into intensive protocols after a player was confirmed positive for COVID-19, source said. The player hasn't been in the facility the past three days and didn't travel for Sunday's game at Detroit.

This is the first Washington player to land on the Reserve/COVID-19 list since July 29. There are only three teams left that haven't placed a player on Reserve/COVID-19 since the regular season began: The #Rams, #Jets and #Seahawks

.

Interesting - Seattle and NY were the two earliest hotspots. Seattle still has some of the strictest anti-Covid Protocols in place, and Washington's Governor has been at the forefront of strict measures. Despite being an early hotspot, Washington now has the 5th lowest case rate and the 6th lowest death rate of any state in the nation...

Kicker Graham Gano has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. We have signed Punter Ryan Santoso and signed TE Nate Wieting to the practice squad.

NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills says genomic sequencing has shown that since the league implemented its intensive and high-risk close contact protocol, they’re “not seeing transmission within our clubs. The new cases that are coming in are coming in from the community.”

In other words, players generally aren’t giving COVID to other players. Cases up in NFL because cases in U.S. However, Sills said there have been nine cases in recent weeks where a “high-risk” close contact tested positive while in isolation. Shows that protocol is working.

One more note from Sills call: The NFL has seen over 20 positive cases where the person had no high-risk close contacts. Sills said that shows clubs are understanding how to prevent high-risk close contacts.

The most basic way, of course: Wearing a mask.
