I'm going to keep saying it until someone does it: make Frank Miller's Dark Knight and cast Bruce Willis in the role.

Joseph-Gordon Levitt is now being rumored to be playing Alberto Falcone. Variety confirmed it but Entertainment Weekly is saying it isn't true so who really knows. Hope Levitt is in the movie because he is a fantastic actor.

People didn't seem to have a problem with Keaton playing Batman at 5'9". Bruce Willis would be fine. Besides they have always shot shorter actors using platforms on the set or favorable camera angles to make them look taller than they are.

Why would this be any different?

P.S. Wasn't one of the Batman Cartoons loosely based on Frank Millers version of "old Batman"?

Too short.

Why?

Bruce is 5 foot 11.5 inches. Keaton was 5 foot 9 inches. Christian Bale is barley 6 feet tall.

Wow....an entire half inch shorter than Bale. That wouldn't even show up on camera.

bruce willis is a horrible choice IMO, not because he's too short... not because he's not a good enough actor... but because he's too bruce willis. Bale, while a great actor, doesn't bring a "Bale-ness" to every role.

I would know. :) No way Willis is only .5 an inch shorter.

But I would agree Willis would just be too Willisy. Unless the director could get him to act or something.

Bruce Willis is best playing the everyman in extraordinary circumstances and playing it with a sense of humor.

Pretty much the exact opposite of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

agreed - willis excels at that blue collar role who is a reluctant hero based more on circumstance and then deals with that circumstance very well, but also with a "i'm stuck in this mess and have nothing to lose anyway, so might as well have some fun with it" wit

wayne/batman isn't even really close unless you stretch a couple bits of circumstance

I like willis, but for batman I'd like to see someone who can pull off wayne as well as batman as wayne is important

I don't mean to single you out, MO, but people are confusing the role of Batman/Wayne in the traditional sense vs what that role would be in a Frank Miller Dark Knight film.

While I agree that Willis doesn't generally have a ton of range, in this one he'd likely not have much dialogue at all....but I think he has the right look--especially after they age him a little in make up.

An aside: I highly recommend picking up the trade paperback. It's a landmark story in comic book history--it set the industry on the course to where it is today with a more adult-oriented subject matter.

thanks Pariah - I am not familiar with his vision on it so I'll be sure to check it out

........

Just read some of the wiki on it .... do you think they'd co-mingle the superhero universe in the movies as it seems they did in the print?

Do you mean with the inclusion of Superman and Green Arrow in the same movie? Yes, I think they could do that...In fact, I think it's inevitable in some form or fashion. DC's hand will be forced by Marvel--they're already doing it as they re-collect their properties under Marvel Studios. Plus, there have been a couple iterations of a Superman/Batman movie in development a few years back.

This movie will eventually be made, IMO. I'd bet if someone were to poll fanboys (and probably DC execs), this is the story that would be on the top of everyone's list. That said, it should have been made while the shine ws still on Frank Miller. Seems between the epic fail of The Spirit and some of the blowback from the success of 300, he's not as hot a commodity as he was just after Sin City. We might have to wait a while for it.

Batman: Year One is in the works as an animated feature.

If they do any more live-action feature films of Frank Miller's work, they may want to stick with Zach Snyder directing. Say what you will about his adaptation of Watchmen, I doubt anyone could have done better...except Chris Nolan of course...I want to have his children.

Yeah: Ronin (2012), not much info available on it yet though.

Just search the name of the project and it should come up for you.

EDIT: I find other message boards hilarious sometimes:

Since many of you are probably shorter than Bruce Willis. I will recant.

Bruce Willis is not too short and would do a good job.
