This game was a perfect example of the difference between the NBA and every other sport in officiating. In the NBA you, can be bonked by the refs in regulation and in overtime on the same night, and it "just happened". I dont think that it is even necessary to talk about the many calls botched in the pistons favor that saved them both at the end of regulation and in the overtime. Bogus blocking fouls, hacks that arent called when the ball goes in the air after wrist contact right under the basket, jumping into the defender for foul shots when he is not even in the path to the basket all amount for a W for the home team. No other sport ends a competition(and I say competition lightly) this way. The NBA is a circus and deserves its sideshow status among the major sports. No wonder most evey one I work with will not watch the NBA. I prefer to watch sports, not "games of entertainment", never was a WWF fan anyway. Entertainment can be had in other venues and its acknowledged as such. THe NBA is not a sport, and I am not a fan anymore. March madness will have to do for basketball, they at least dont have the nuts to manipulate regulation AND overtime.

The spirit of donaghy lives in the NBA!

how many complaining threads do we need? it was a regular season game against a team that we don't need to be worrying about until after we get out of the west (if we manage to do that).

We get it. You don't like the Suns, or don't like how they're currently constituted, or their coach, or the color of their uniforms. You don't like something about them. But please, PLEASE shut the **** up when real fans want to exercise their prerogatives and act like fans.

Go root for the Spurs or something.

Wow I used to watch WWF wrestling a long time ago and I knew the ref's weren't actually honest. It was entertaining to watch the show. To see who they would "rob" pretending to fall for distractions so the other wrestler could cheat. Set up the big rematch etc. I grew tired of it I guess, anyway........

I'm not saying the NBA is fixed at all. I hope not, but you won't see flopping and jumping into guys in pickup games. Only when the game has refs, otherwise players call their own fouls. Disputes are usually won by making a do-or-die 3 pointer, which doesn't affect the score.

Players have to play with more integrity. And the powers in charge have to not tolerate these tactics.
Enough is enough.

Tricking the refs is cheating.
Cheating should be punished.
Fix it by establishing rules and consequences. Suspensions do work.

Or just change the name from the NBA to something more accurate like the AAA
Athletic Actors Association

It is hurting the game. This is not WWF where fans get upset and yell for pretend stuff. This wont help the bad judgement calls like in today's Pistons/Suns game, but it would be a start to eliminate the BS that is a factor in deciding outcomes. Primarily who gets in foul trouble, and how they have to play tentatively after that, which robs the fans of all out, fair competition.

Well, if you keep responding to them, maybe they'll keep being created.

Arwillan if you can't understand the people being pissed off after this ridiculous game then not sure what to tell you, maybe take the night off. People have every right to complain after that BS.

Officiating has more of an effect in the NBA than any of the four major leagues. This is most apparent in this game where any one of three calls changed the outcome of the game. If the officials get one of those calls right, Suns win and we aren't complaining as much.

i've never said that there is anything about the suns i don't like. it's suns fans like you who pride themselves on their whining about refs. I get it, there were some questionable calls in tonight's game. Every team thinks they always get the worst calls, and every team thinks that the other team won because of the refs. We don't need to hear morons like yourself whining about it every night. we lost, that will not change. get over it, drink a juice box and feel better.

Anyone who is compelled to criticize NBA officiating tonight is WELL within their rights and makes a valid argument.

Anyone complaining about complaining makes me giggle just a little bit.

p.s. Arwillan, you've just set yourself up to be a royal hypocrite if you're ever to complain about anything on this board. You cant be the judge of what posters can or cant complain about when discussing suns gameplay/performance and not expect to be judged the next time you do it. Just a heads up.

yep, i'm aware. as i've said before, i am not one to complain about the refs. I'm probably the only suns fan in the world who thought that the ruling on amare and diaw last year was well-deserved. Shaq thought so too, as he stated on inside the nba that night. Either way, i'll be sure not to go against anything i've said by complaining during this year's postseason.

Some felt shaq was fouled a couple times, some felt nash drew a charge when the refs called a block and-1 for billups (which you could make a case for, i suppose), and some felt that a loose ball foul called on bell with less than a minute to go was unnecessary.

Oh, please. If the refs call McDyess for grabbing Shaq under the basket, Shaq goes to the line, misses the free throws, and the rest of the game plays out the same.

Your inference that only the Suns have fans who react in that manner to officiating is not only widely off-base, but the holier-than-thou attitude you seem to be projecting along with it is really, really annoying.

Just my opinion.

the one thing that bothers me more than anything is that handchecking on nash is continually allowed. refs should watch gamefilm, (without sound for broadcaster bias), and notice things like who flops, and see if certain players gripes are warranted.

LOL @ how the sportscenter highlights of the game don't even BEGIN to mention the terrible calls the refs made and how badly it affected the outcome. So typical. **** the pistons

Of course not. Since when has ANY sports outlet/newspaper/magazine mentioned bad officiating as a reason for a loss? It never happens because even if there are questionable calls, you still shouldn't be put in a situation where a bad call affects the outcome of a game.

I don't agree with the dude that's saying we shouldn't complain, but I do believe that complaining about the officiating is the last refuge of whiney fans. Yes, there were bad calls, there are in every game in every sport. The Suns had every chance to overcome that.

You would be hard pressed to find a fan of any NBA team that thinks that officiating isn't a huge problem in the NBA. I don't think I have ever seen an NBA Game where at least some calls haven't been messed up.

I do however, think you guys get a little too much bias from Eddie Johnson and the other guy that announces with him on UPN. I'm not saying this in a hateful way, or trying to talk down to anyone, but those guys really do poison the fan base of this team with their bias. Yes, the refs missed some calls that hurt the Suns, but when they missed a call that helped the Suns those guys don't say a word. At least twice in OT, Amare lowered his shoulder and slammed into Antonio McDyess, but he didn't get called for a foul. The announcers don't talk about that, they talk about the ones that go against the Suns only.

You guys got some bad calls, you did. You have a right to be upset over a few of them, but the game wasn't as lopsided as Eddie Johnson makes it sound.

Meanwhile, unbiased NBA TV announcers for the Lakers-Warriors game tonight are FLIPPING OUT on horrible calls at the end of the game, which is also in overtime. Once again, a horrid call changes the game. Call went to the visiting Lakers and sealed the game for them. The lakers didnt win the game, they were given the game by the refs.

to quote the announcer
"A wonderful game with a pathetic ending."
"Atrocious ending to one of the best games I've seen."

p.s. it was a damn good game too.

Dude, all color guys do it. Stu Lance does the same thing.

He does, yes.

I'm not a huge fan of his either. I guess I just miss Chick Hearn, no one was harder on the Lakers when they played poorly then Chick. I know all color commentators do it, I'm honestly not trying to be disrespectful to the Suns fans here, but I do believe that the Suns guys do it worse then anyone else. If you listen to Eddie Johnson, the Suns haven't committed a foul since 2004.

I understand it's their job to stand up for their guys, and I respect that. I just think they take it a bit far, it borders on unprofessional. They have a job as announcers to at least try to maintain some sort of balanced integrity. They are good announcers, I would just like to see them lay off a bit, that's all.

I have never, ever heard Stu talk for 3 minutes about one call. He might mention it and go on, but no, he does not do it. He is very good at calling out when the Lakers get away with fouls, like last night at the end of the third when Fish macheted off Jackson's hands with no call. Stu is better than most of the color guys when it comes to keeping the homerism in check..as much as one can.

I can't say how the Suns announcers are because honestly, I rarely watch them. We usually play you on national TV. I listen to most of the other announcers on League Pass though, and I'll take Stu and a few other guys (minnesota IIRC has non-homer color guy) over the field.

Is that necessary? If he doesnt want to bash the refs that doesnt make him a Spurs fan.

You bashing him doesnt make you more of a Suns fan either.
