Surely you aren't claiming this victory for your team? It's Fulham, after all...oh, wait, you bandwagon jumped to Arsenal.

Congrats to Arsenal. We are a decimated side with a 3rd-choice central defender, and 3 of our 4 starting midfield out. I believe Arsenal was missing one defender. I'm so shocked we got mauled :sarcasm: Actually, I know we ended up giving up 7, and we haven't gotten points in the last 2 games, but I'm hugely proud of Newcastle over the past 2 games. We took the game to Man U (losing in extra time sucks), and battled like demons for 70 minutes against Arsenal. Given our injuries, we shouldn't have even been in either game.

Oh yeah, huge complaint with Arsenal's first goal, with it being offside and all...but 6-3 is just as convincing, sadly :)

Don't call me Shirley.

:gooners:

Can you really blame me for not really supporting Sunderland?

Nope, deal fell through. Problem is, he has like 4-6 agents that just want to get him to move, and want to get all kinds of extra fees. Chelsea balked at the extra agent fees and won't do the deal.

This release clause is poison. Pardew has warned Ba that if he stays through the January window, he WILL renegotiate his contract, and it will NOT have a release clause in it. His many agents wanted ANOTHER release clause in any new deal. Um, not.

Chelsea has gone back and forth on this, but now Sky Sports has reported live that they have activated the release clause, and Ba has permission to talk terms with Chelsea. He is out of the lineup tonight against Everton. Sadly, this doesn't mean anything will happen--he has like 4-6 representatives and wants a ton of wages, so who knows if Chelsea can close the deal? I hope they do, now--no need to drag it out.

This is so, so disappointing, and a big reason why the whole agent system needs massive changes in soccer. Here's a kid who has stated over and over again that he wants to play in Newcastle, but who has a ton of agents who want more money. How do they get it? Through a transfer, of course :(

7.5M for Ba, that's it? He seems to be worth 15-20 to me.

He has a release clause in his contract. If a team offers 7.5 million, the clause is triggered. Even worse, he gets 2 million of the 7.5 himself. It's the only reason he is leaving, because he has family members who are agents, and they're frickin' greedy. He's said over and over he wants to stay, and is on record that the reason he's transferring is to take care of his family.

At least Cisse will play his natural position now. Only in Newcastle will you have two top scorers that cannot play together lol Debuchy is coming across the line for us (pending physical) and Remy might be next. For the love of Pete, what we really need is to get our injured players back. Taylor and Cabaye will be back in two weeks!

Debuchy would be a big get for you. I like Remy as well, but I am not sure how he fits in.

I still feel that Ba should get closer to 15M. All he does is put the ball in the back of the net.

Again, we could not get 15 million. We had no choice in the matter--NONE. We actually got 5 million because, per the contract, the player himself banked 2.5 million of the transfer fee.

Why did we do a deal with him 1 1/2 years ago with an easy to meet buyout clause? Because we got him on a free transfer, he had (still does) a bum knee that can go at any second, and nobody else was willing to take him. So we didn't pay for him, and the buyout clause was in. He's lucky--it paid off. If he had bombed with us, or had hurt his knee, he'd have been screwed. He hit the jackpot, and he made out. Good for him.

Debucy is a done deal. Remy would make us better off than we were with Ba because, frankly, he and Cisse could not play together.

What a boring game. One of the worst I have seen in a while actually. Newcastle couldn't get anything going. Surprised you came away with a point there.

A bit less chirping from the Mags in my office today. They were skipping around about the signing Remy yesterday. Still might happen i guess but must be having second thoughts about joining a 'wee club' like newcastle.

If Newcastle is wee, Sunderland is miniscule. Eh, Remy is showing his true colors. The deal was all tied up, until he got to the personal terms part. QPR's new owner is willing to shell out ridiculous wages, and we aren't. If he's all about the money, he'll go to QPR. Man, the Rangers are really playing with fire. If they go down, with all the money they spent, they'll be in absolute free fall.

Ha, come back when your wee club has won as much as us Stout lad ;)

It is all money though to be honest. Shows how screwed the game is if anything. The mags are a much better place for him (QPR ARE a miniscule club) and whilst its all very amusing for a Sunderland fan watching your lot back track to Remy now not being very good etc. it shows how much money has funked up the the game I love.

Hey, I recall looking up trophies, and you guys had like maybe ONE more than us...and we're winning the Europa League this year, so there :D

Yeah, it's all about the money. He's getting a sweet deal with QPR, though; all kinds of money, and a cheap out clause if QPR go down.

I'm calling it now: we're going down :( When you can't beat Reading, or at least draw them, at home, forget about it.

And the idiot who bears almost total blame for this fiasco is the silver fox himself, Alan Pardew---or Par-pew, as it is. If you asked anyone that watched the first half, they'd say Reading had almost no shot, outside of a lucky sudden counterattack, of getting points out of that game.

So what does our idiot manager do? Take the foot off the gas in the second half. Then when Reading comes out strong, he continues pulling us back. Then he makes a defensive substitution, taking off Marveaux, one of our two key playmakers. THEN he turns around and subs out CABAYE, directly AFTER we give up the equalizer!!!!! WTF, Pardew?!?!? If you want to sub out Cabaye to give him rest in this, his second game back, DO NOT EFFING TAKE OFF MARVEAUX FIRST!!! We have no playmakers on the bench, and he goes and takes off both of the playmakers on the field...and THEN he turns around and takes off Anita!!! I mean, seriously, did he suddenly put money on a bet against us staying in the premier league??? Worst coached game of soccer ever (except for the Bob Bradley idiocy of starting Ricardo Clark in that one WC game).

Brought in some high-quality reinforcements. Of course, they should have been brought in over the summer, so let's hope it's not too late.

FINALLY!!! We were the only team in the top FIVE divisions of English soccer not to have won an away game. We tried to choke it away in the second half--well, to be fair, Lambert had 4 strikers and an attacking midfielder just off them, as he really went for it--but we showed resilience and came away with the massive 3 points.

I think our new signings are going to energize us, and I think we'll survive, and may even start to (slowly) climb the table. We're still in very real danger of going down, though, so Pardew and company need to keep it up. Sissoko was great for us immediately, and Gouffran showed pace and movement.

Hells to the mother-lovin' yeah! We are not going down this season, that's for certain, and I think we have a shot at an Evertonian run to climb a bit up the table--not to significant levels, for sure, but possibly into the top 10.

Chelsea fans will be fuming, but overall, the screwage was pretty equal. Ba should have earned a penalty, but Ramires (sp?) should have been sent off for a two-legged diving tackle. Cisse should have been sent off for that idiot move he pulled, but Chelse, playing just as physical as we were, only got called for 5 fouls to our 11--at one time, and that stat is skewed. Until nearly stoppage time, they had only been whistled for 2. So, yeah, I think that all evened out.

Oh, and though I'll never root for a player to get injured, I didn't feel too bad for Ba after the fact. He abandoned his team in the midst of crisis, the only team willing to take him on, for a better squad and the big bucks? Soooo sorry you hurt your nose, mate. You don't have to go away mad--just go away :D
