Complete lack of class from the Newcastle fans towards Ba. Booing him for faking injury when he was kicked in the face and now has a broken nose. Classless. It wasn't like he 'abandoned' Newcastle. He wanted to be there.

I'm stoked that I now have a team to root against. Hopefully Newcastle is related, but unfortunately, I don't see that happening.

This is a joke, right? It was his conscious choice to leave the club. Newcastle had NO CHOICE BUT TO SELL HIM. Chelsea triggered a release clause in his contract, which means Newcastle were obligated BY CONTRACT LAW to sell him. Of course, Ba had final say. If he didn't want to go to Chelsea, and wanted to stay at Newcastle, HE COULD HAVE CHOSEN TO STAY. He didn't. He took the money and ran to the bigger club.

Right when he went down, everyone thought he was playing it up--until the replay and seeing his face, so of course he was going to get booed right away. Were the fans too harsh on him once they realized he was injured? Absolutely. Problem is, they're passionate fans, and Demba Ba left the club in absolute crisis to take money and a move to a big team. A slight lack of class, yeah, but perfectly understandable, given the knife in the collective Toon back.

Oh, and if you now hate Newcastle like the plague because of fan reaction to Ba, you're just an ignorant fan without any knowledge of the situation. I've never seen you up in arms when Sir Alex Ferguson breaks every rule of reaction to officials and torments them like a bully, yet skates from FA punishment because Man U can do no wrong. But that's cool, because Man U. is popular. Liverpool is popular, and I've never seen you express absolute hatred because of the Suarez race abuse, lack of class, and admitted cheating. No, those situations are all cool--only Newcastle deserves criticism.

Rethink your stance, and actually read a little bit before you make uneducated, incorrect statements.

Not a joke. They were booing him as they took him off of the field. If they realized how bad it was, then there was no reason to boo him then.

Down with Newcastle.

A bit less chirping from the Mags in my office today. They were skipping around about the signing Remy yesterday. Still might happen i guess but must be having second thoughts about joining a 'wee club' like newcastle.

Man, am I glad Remy made a stupid mistake in going to QPR, because it saved us from actually getting him :D

Careful. I realize we are in world sports, but I won't tolerate you talking to me like that.

I despise Man U because of how Sir Alex talks, but I don't even like to talk about Man U. Just because I don't talk about him means nothing about how I feel about them.

Yes, Newcastle deserves criticism about how they treated Ba on Sat. Don't like it? That's your opinion, but don't talk to me like that. I don't deserve it.

You aren't ignorant on this topic? I'm not calling you an ignorant person, but an ignorant fan without proper knowledge. You still think Newcastle chose to get rid of Ba, which is 100 percent false and incorrect. Until you actually realize that, or at least look it up for yourself without taking my word for it, what do you want me to call you? I shied away from more insulting terms. It just reads to me like you willfully refuse to accept reality.

And hey, you came at my team with an absolute hatred, like hatred of the Cowboys hatred. From a position of bad information and lack of education on the topic. You started a flame war. Expect return fire.

You made it personal. Why must you try to insult me when we disagree. Knock it off.

No, you said Ba didn't abandon the team--he EXACTLY abandoned the team. So yes, it was a bit crass, but understandable.

Down with your silliness.

Insults are NOT understandable and this is your one and only warning on the subject.

Fine, he quit the team. Happy? The problem isn't be being wrong, it is with you thinking that you can throw insults at people because they are wrong. I won't let it happen again to me or anyone else.

I am, because I certainly take issue with someone blasting my team in an unfair and incorrect manner.

And I'll pull back on the insults. It will be nice if a moderator can also agree not to post inflammatory and incorrect material.

My opinion isn't unfair or incorrect. It is my opinion.

Me posting my opinion on the players in the stands isn't meant to inflame you or anyone else. Sorry you took offense.

You said he didn't abandon Newcastle. He chose, of his own free will, to leave Newcastle for another team. This is fact. This constitutes abandoning his former team. You are wrong. Your opinion is in direct opposition to reality.

I think you don't understand the situation of the buyout clause, yet you refuse to accept anything I say about it (even though I, you know, follow the team religiously), and won't look it up yourself. So, you're wrong. Move along.

Yep.

Your biased opinion as a Newcastle fan, not fact.

Even if you want to reach there (and that's a heck of a reach, your opinion), it makes it easily understandable why the fans of the team he left would get all over him.

Booing a player that broke his nose in a game is classless in my opinion whether the player 'abandoned the team' (as you like to call it) or not.

Like I said, they didn't know he had broken his nose. Until the replay, it looked like he was making a meal of it. And when he was clearly injured, few fans were still rousting him. You make it sounds like all of the stadium were roundly booing him the whole time he was dealing with his nose, which isn't the case. The announcers, who didn't hesitate to be critical of Newcastle at times (rightly so, in Cisse's case), didn't even see anything wrong with it. I've already admitted it was a little crass. Considering the circumstances, it doesn't deserve a hatred with the heat of 1, 000 suns, IMO.

Chelsea has gone back and forth on this, but now Sky Sports has reported live that they have activated the release clause, and Ba has permission to talk terms with Chelsea. He is out of the lineup tonight against Everton. Sadly, this doesn't mean anything will happen--he has like 4-6 representatives and wants a ton of wages, so who knows if Chelsea can close the deal? I hope they do, now--no need to drag it out.

This is so, so disappointing, and a big reason why the whole agent system needs massive changes in soccer. Here's a kid who has stated over and over again that he wants to play in Newcastle, but who has a ton of agents who want more money. How do they get it? Through a transfer, of course :(
For discussion sake, did he not want to stay in Newcastle despite what he said over and over again?

If a good offer hadn't come along, sure, he would have stayed. He was using us as the stepping stone to big money and a big club, though. He's said that was his plan all along. So yeah, he was happy to be in Newcastle. It wasn't like he didn't enjoy his time on Tyneside. It didn't matter one whit when the money/big team came after him, though, so ultimately no, he didn't want to stay in Newcastle.
