Good job beat Chelsea. Two questions: did Cisse have his hands around Ashley Cole's throat without getting called? Did Collicini kick Ba in the face without a penalty?

Yes and yes. Did a Chelsea player make a two-footed lunge tackle and just get away with a yellow? Did Chelsea really only get called for 2 fouls until the last five minutes? Yes and yes.

Yeah, with the Cisse non-call, it balanced a little in our favor, but plenty went against us with the ref too. It was heinously 1-sided as far as fouls. Yep, we got away with a few (Cisse, what are you thinking? Moron!), but on the balance, I don't think Chelsea has much to complain about. And, we got the three, and I don't care how :D

Ya, who cares, right? I just heard about it from a Chelsea fan on Men in Blazers podcast.

Got through the international games without a Magpie picking up an injury...whew! Our guys have racked them up this season on international duty.

Disappointing loss. We played well enough for the draw, and it was a tough loss, but Spurs are in fine form. Heck, if you would have told me the Magpies would get 3 points out of the Chelsea and Tottenham fixtures, I'd have taken it.

Have to travel to Metalist next week at 0-0, after being absolutely hosed out of a 2-0 first leg win. Two good Cisse goals ruled out unfairly as offsides. Ugh.

Sweet, the Magpies are through to the last 16. I don't care how we managed to get the goal--the Ukrainians gifted Newcastle a penalty, so I'll take it. It really shouldn't have mattered--we should have won on a 3-1 aggregate, but the linesmen hated the Magpies on Tyneside, for some reason.

An excellent win at home to the Saints, who had just beaten Man City the week before, and a wonder goal by Cisse. Climbing up the table, including a nice jump over Sunderland in the standings :D

This was a tricky game for the ref, but he did a bang-up job. I thought Tiote ruined it with a truly idiotic penalty concession--he needs to be sold high this summer--but we pulled it out. Cabaye with a picture-perfect free kick, and then Marveaux with the patient pass, and Cisse with the incredible finish. Safety!

What a cracking finish! OMFG, I damn near had a heart attack, I was celebrating so hard. I'm glad my roommate wasn't home!

The ref rightly sent their guy off but, to be fair, Anita should have been sent off a few minutes later. That would have changed things quite a bit. Still, although Anzhi was the better side in the first, they didn't snag that coveted away goal, and we totally bossed them in the second half.

Last 8, baby! I wonder who we'll draw? No pushovers any more--not that Anzhi is a pushover either.

What an epic screw job. Okay, so Debuchy, one of the best right backs in the world, goes down to injury and they get a goal on us--fair goal to Wigan, 1-0. Then we see one of the worst tackles I'll see in a football match, which likely put Haidara in the hospital with a horror injury, doesn't even get a card. No card! Studs recklessly up, then driven straight down into the knee. Well, that should have been Macmanaman (sp?) sent off right there, and the whole match changes.

Instead, we're down a right back and a left back, and nary a card for what should have been a red.

Okay, fine, we claw back, and in the 2nd grab the equalizer. Awesome! We got screwed, but managed to earn an away point out of it. Naw, fast forward to the 90th minute, where apparently it's cool to pass the ball further into the box with your hand, in a blatant motion, with your arm extended in the air. Apparently that's okay, and it's cool to score off it to.

Amazing. Utterly amazing. Wigan got an extra man for 3/4 of the match and a gifted goal instead of getting a yellow for hand ball. Yep, an epic screw job.

That was an unfortunate, but not unexpected, result. I didn't realize this before the game, but more than half our starting lineup was out injured, including 3 of our starting 4 defenders and our keeper. Granted, Elliot has been superb in goal--he had a great game even while giving up 4 goals, believe it or not. Yeah, 3 defenders, a keeper, and 2 midfielders--Ben Arfa, Tiote (not a big miss this season, admittedly), Coloccine (our captain), Debuchy (world-class right back), Santon, and Krul. Yowzers!

We just need to win the games we're supposed to win, and hopefully get a result against Benfica.

Eh, all things considered, this was a fair result. Benfica are an incredible side in incredible form. Sure, Newcastle COULD have been up by 3 or 4, but by that same token, Benfica could have put up 5 or 6. The Magpies still have a shot. A 2-0 home win advances them outright.

The only thing (besides the result) that disappointed me was the classlessness of the Benfica players. They flopped around more than the Italian national team used to, and they cried, bitched and moaned all night. Their cheating even drew a yellow card for Ameobi--nowhere near the guy's face, but he collapses to the ground clutching his face as if he'd been shot there. I'm majorly disappointed in Benfica's lack of class.

Massive win. I would have been seething had we lost, due to the failure to give us a penalty for a blatant hand ball. As it is, I think I can look past that :D

A lot of the blame for this loss falls on Pardew's shoulders. He had this whole approach that his team didn't need a sense of urgency. Then he made a really stupid selection choice--starting Bigirimana over Marveaux. Bigi is a really good young player, but he's a defensive midfielder, and Marveaux has been a wizard lately. Needing at least two goals, you sit Marveaux? Not smart.

So, for the first half, we couldn't buy a chance. The players clearly weren't in a hurry, and that was the message their boss put out. I mean, look at how Newcastle dominated the second half. Granted, they didn't get the second goal, and gave up a late one on the counter, but Benfica was pretty much a nonentity all half.

Oh well. We weren't going to win it, so I guess I have to be satisfied with no injuries. Williamson actually wasn't useless, which was a plus. And Hatem Ben Afra--ladies and gents, he is BACK!

On a side note, Benfica is a quality team, but they lack any sort of class at all. What a bunch of boobs.

Watching this Liverpool game, the only way we don't get relegated is if a third team fails to match us in points we already have, or if we can somehow beat QPR--which we would struggle to do right now.

We suck, and the idiot Pardew absolutely needs to get sacked, even if we stay up. Complete and utter idiot.

I swear to Christ, if our first substitution is bringing on Ameobi, I will break my television set. It's all he EVER EFFING DOES, Pardew! 'Oops, we're losing, I'll change the formation in the exact same manner I always do and I'll bring on the same boring, uninspiring player who is completely out of form...yeah, that'll catch 'em off guard and kickstart the offense!'

Moron!

What else can I expect from someone starting an injured and completely sucking Tiote PARTNERED with Perch in midfield? An idiot who does NOT start a health Ben Arfa? An idiot who sits Gouffran, who scored a goal in the last game and actually has pace? An idiot who continues to play Sissokho out of position? An idiot who continues to play the absolutely useless, old, and clueless Guittierez? An idiot who continues to sit Anita and ignore him when making subs? The list goes on.

What the hell else can I expect with this asshat in charge? We've skipped right over the falling apart in the 2nd half phenomenon and just decided to suck right from the beginning.

Oh, nice, Pardew...2 subs at the break to fix the starting lineup mistakes you made to start with. IDIOT!

Not that we were going to win anyway, but their 3rd goal came right after a foul on Ben Arfa and should not have counted, and unless there's some weird rule that kept Sturridge onside, their 4th goal shouldn't have counted. Johnson should have been sent off in the 2nd half too. There have been really stupid decisions the other way too. Mariner is absolutely crap and should never get another Premiership game based on this performance.
