And another huge win! Tottenham, Man City, and Liverpool beaten, all in the space of a week. W00t!

I at first berated Pardew for playing packed in defense, looking for the counter, but he proved me wrong this time. Granted, he's been getting a fair amount of luck lately, but Pardew's done quite enough to avoid the sack for now. Let's see if we can support him with a signing or two in the winter.

I didn't see the City game, but the Liverpool game was pretty bad on both sides for the first 60 minutes. Newcastle could have/should have had 2 red cards in the second half. After about the 70th minute though, it was all Newcastle.

Nice win.

No doubt. I don't mind that we slid on them, though, because I'm sick and tired of us not getting any calls for penalty kicks. What has to happen at this point? The opposition to pick our guy up over his head and throw him to the ground? We had another clear penalty kick that wasn't called in that game. But no doubt, those were red-card worthy plays.

You mean the one on Cisse? That was ticky tack with minimal contact. Plus the referee's view was obstructed.

You're thinking of Sissohko (sp?) not Cisse, and I agree that wasn't a penalty. I may be mixing my matches up, because I'm thinking of one on Obertan. He went out early through injury, and I know he had a clear penalty denied against City. Yes, in retrospect, I'm sure I'm thinking of the Man City game.

Agony and ecstasy today for Newcastle. Sure, they got the 1-0 victory over QPR, but I'd gladly have made it a 10-0 loss if it could have prevented what happened to Ryan Taylor. Two major knee injuries in as many years for this fantastic man, who came the way back to make his first Premier League start in forever today.

A man in his thirties, battling to save his career. And he's off with an injury to the same knee. I'm absolutely gutted for him. I pray it's nothing major, but I'm afraid it's a career-ender. He's the nicest, most hard working player you could possibly wish to have on your team, and he does not deserve this.

It says a lot that the entire team mobbed him on the sideline when Sissokho scored the winner. A lovely tribute, but small comfort for Tayls.

Wow, Pardew to Crystal Palace! Definitely a step down. The only two explanations are that he wants to go back to where he played, and he's tired of Mike Ashley selling players out from under him. Hope he succeeds, and I REALLY hope we get this next hire right. Pardew was no master tactician, that's for sure lol

Big step up for Pardew, couldn't turn the chance down I guess.

As far as club, it's a huge step down. No ambition, fans content to eek out a life in the Premier league. Crystal Palace are clearly inferior.

Of course, that reckons without owner Mike Ashley at Newcastle. It's a big club with plenty of money and full of ambition...in everyone but the owner. I really can't blame him for leaving. Ashley is killing that club. Not that he's a great manager or anything. His tactics were head scratching, as was his stubborn selection of some awful players (ahem, Gouffran). We don't need him--we need a solid replacement, though.

Like I said, big step up for him ;)

His selections we baffling at times. He was that desperate the beat Sunderland after his awful record against us he basically listened to every pundit and fan over the last year who said 'too many French players, not enough local lads'. So he puts out 6 of the feckers to prove a point... Result, 4th derby defeat in a row.

Concern for you lot is another Ashley yes man. Shewprwood with Les and Rob Lee might keep the fans happy back room staff wise, but getting the apold guard back doest always work (Shearer's relegation etc...)

Wow, Pardew is finally gone eh?

I think this will turn out to be a pretty big loss for Newcastle. People seem to want him gone every year, but he can motivate the team at times it seems.

If Pardew can keep CP up, it will be a pretty big feat IMO.

Who is the Newcastle Manager now? Interim?

His tactics tend to baffle me, as do his selections. At one point, for a solid 4 or so months of games, each and every free kick in the box seemed to be an attempt to get it to the far side for Williamson to knock it down to someone. So pitifully obvious as to be laughable. Why Gouffran kept getting games is anyone's guess. You highlight another head scratcher. There were plenty of them.

The problem is, will Ashley put up with anyone but a yes man?

Big loss? Not really. He kept the dressing room, but that's all. Rah-rah can only carry you so far. I watch other managers maximizing the talent in limited squads. Pardew didn't. Ashley hamstrung him, no doubt about it, but it's little different from teams that don't spend, and other managers have handled it better.

Carver has done well in service to this club, and is a competent coach. He ran training, for the most part (so the articles say), so he'll easily step into the role. He isn't a long-term answer, but the team will be stable for a game or two in his hands.

And thanks, English, for the kind words :)

I guess we'll have to see. Last year I felt they overachieved. This year they are doing the same.

I'll be surprised if Newcastle qualifies for the Europa league or better this year.
