How do you draw a game 1-1 and end up with zero points? Have the worst effing ref crew work your game, that's how! Somehow they just seemed to absolutely despise Newcastle in this game. Robbed them of a definite goal. Not yellow carding players for what otherwise was booked for a yellow. When a Bournemouth player bounces up, charges a Newcastle player, and literally puts their face in his, the NEWCASTLE player gets booked. Literally pushing someone over from behind at the edge of the box when a Newcastle player gets behind you isn't a red for last man, or a yellow...it isn't even an effing FOUL!!!

Those were just the worst calls, too. Utterly ridiculous reffing. Bournemouth definitely came out in the 2nd and earned a goal, but Newcastle actually SCORED a goal. I guess you have to score them at a rate of two-to-one just to earn an effing draw, though. If your name is Newcastle, you do.

Here's a caveat to this post: Everyone knew Newcastle was going to lose. Except for the madness that gripped me when we scored first, even I knew it.

With that out of the way, the big hero was also the big goat. Gayle had wonderful positioning to tap in a magnificent ball from Yedlin, who is my man of the match. So, Gayle's a hero for getting our only goal. He's also the goat for being the biggest catalyst in conceding the all-important third goal, which put the game out of reach. He was in a position, just outside of Man U's box, to shoot. As a striker, either shoot--which is preferred--or find a better option. AT LEAST get the ball to a teammate. Instead he tried a long pass across the top of the box, which was intercepted for an immediate and devastating counter-attack. Boom, 3-1 Man U.

Ah well. Newcastle were never getting points out of this one. Watford at home? Must get points. West Brom? Must win.

that's how I feel after the eagles/cowboys game last night LOL. just translate the words to fit the other match.

As for Newcastle they had a brilliant start. Now they must snap out of this funk soon and well put they must do it at home and against the other mid level clubs.

other than man city right now this thing is wide open. hopefully they start losing when aguero gets back...LOL

Relegation fight: On. Benitez needs to stop being a stubborn jackass and just start Mitrovic. Joselu is a disaster and useless as can be.

It's amazing how competitive the EPL is from spots 7-20.. Brighton sit 9th, but are just 6 points (2 wins) from relegation. Huge game against rivals and last place Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Yeah. Look at West Ham. They are in a relegation battle. Spurs are dominating a UCL group with real and Dortmund yet they cannot beat West Brom at Home. And then there is city who cannot lose.

As for Newcastle they are coming apart. The dream start is over.

Yesterday was one of the worst displays I've ever seen from Newcastle for 3/4 of the game. Lazy, poor passing, giving the ball away willy nilly, giving up a goal in injury time, then giving up a second goal just after the break against a horrible team. Well, thankfully they ARE a horrible team, because when the Mags decided to turn it on, they got 2 back for the draw and the point.

Still really struggling, but a little bit of relief.

I'm sorry, but this one goes on Benitez's shoulders. Was it great that Newcastle surprised Chelsea with their change of formation, bagging an early goal? Hell yes! Was it unsustainable because, in a short weak, in a team with current defensive frailties, Benitez attempted to implement a 100% different defensive formation? HIGHLY unsustainable. Chelsea ripped Newcastle to shreds. Hazard should have had 4 or 5, let alone a hat trick. It's a minor miracle Newcastle only held him to 2.

Diame in place of Hayden starting? WTF are you thinking, Benitez? Gayle up top alone, when you don't start Shelvey and the chances are nil we can play it forward with incisive passes? WTF are you thinking, Benitez? Parking the bus after one goal, with 3/4 of the game to play? WTF are you thinking, Benitez? I could go on, but that's already more than enough.

Look, it sucks, Benitez. You weren't given the funds and you have a weak squad with almost no scoring power. Them's the facts. Until now, you've done Herculean work with this team. Today, though...today you screwed the pooch and outsmarted yourself, and really, really cost the team.

Edit: I did like him replacing Yedlin in the starting 11. Yedlin had to sit after his awful recent form.

I trust Rafa, but man, is this team selection POOR. Joselu? Seriously, does he have pictures of Rafa cheating on his wife? HOW does he keep getting starts? Shelvey on the bench for the THIRD straight game? When he's waited until the last 15 minutes to bring him on before?

I mean, I get not selecting Atsu or Lascelles. I'm rabid for Lascelles to get back in the lineup, but he's probably not ready for 90 minutes yet. The injuries have not been kind. Selecting Gayle makes sense--he's nicked a few goals lately--by why not partner him with Mitro? Maybe he's not perfect in training, but he's loads better in games than useless Joselu. Manquillo on the left? Gamez was better than him in his game, an Mbemba has been better there too.

Newcastle need offensive firepower, so I don't get selecting Joselu, nor do I get not starting both Merino and Shelvey. Ritchie has been god awful, so his spot in the starting lineup should by no means be secure.

Eh, I dunno. I just don't know. This lineup arguably leaves more talent on the bench than in the lineup. I really hope the team goes out and makes me eat these words.

I didn’t see the match just the highlights. On the own goal they got caught forward and a lot of guys did not run back to defend. I think we go back to the transfer window and Newcastle did not do enough to upgrade their roster to be PL ready. They need to get points at home or they will be back in the championship. I liked Alan shearer’s rant on Twitter.

Oh, they absolutely didn't do enough in the window, and that's 100 percent on Ashley. They had a net spend of something like 12 or 17 mill. They lost out on players because they supposedly 'didn't have' funds on hand to pay wages. Basically a crock of crap excuse from Jabba the Ashley, which was 100 percent a lie. Just like he lied to Rafa about backing him in the summer widow. Ashley wouldn't know what backing is if he were a car seat.

City are ridiculous. In Europe as well. I hope spurs and city both do well.

Sorry to highjack the Newcastle thread but there was some brilliant football this weekend. The arsenal Liverpool match kickstarted it all. Too bad arsenal got a point. Newcastle got an impressive victory today. West Ham were on a nice run at home. Newcastle could have scored more than they did. Good to see yedlin and many others running forward in packs.

Today the manU Leicester was probably the best match. What a finish at the end.

No problem, lorenzotexan. Thanks to the time difference (I'm vacationing with family and friends in CA), I was able to watch the game, and I'm glad I did. Ended up a nail biter that shouldn't have been that close, but it was well worth it. A great start to the day.

Newcastle trying to ruin Man City's record winning run in Europe...think it'll work? It'd take a miracle. Bye bye! lol

Eh, what the hell, what do the Mags have to lose?

0-0 snoozefest

Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Snoozefest is too kind. I think this one frustrated Rafa a lot. He wanted the players to press on, it seems, but they refused to come out of their shell. The boos were MORE than justified, and the gaffer not hitting back at the fans for booing really highlights that.

As I thought before the season, when Jabba the Ashley refused to honor promises and give any sort of budget (a net spend of less than $20 mill!), Newcastle are in deep relegation trouble. And, if Jabba the Ashley refuses to invest in January, it will get worse.

Massive win. Just the medicine I needed while laid low with the plague. With Swansea at home the next game, Newcastle could be on 25 points after.
