Nope, in my world we can Graves and then the new GM cans whisenhunt.

That is the only reasonable outcome that offers long-term success.
Can Graves and hire a real, competent GM. If he fires Whiz, so be it.

You mean a GM who is not a coach mouthpiece, right? Because that is what Graves is. He does what the coaches tell him to do. Again, he isn't trolling Steeler old farts because it is his idea.

Yes, he does suck and yes, he needs to go. He's a yes-man to the people above him and a yes-man to the people below him...thus he gives us nothing of value. However, the coach in his ear making the personnel calls is not absolved because he can get the GM to make crappy FA acquisitions on his behalf.

That's the thing--someone in that position needs to have authority over the coaching staff and also be able to pressure ownership. Now I'm not privy to what actually happens behind the scenes, but it seems like Graves does neither. This is how you end up in penny-wise pound-foolish situations.

I'm making the assumption that a real, competent GM would do that because even if he thinks Whis might be the guy, he would want to clean house and build the team he wants because he doesn't have time to experiment with "maybe".

Great. So we can Whisenhunt in your world. Then guess who makes the decision on our next head coach? The same incompetent yes-man you're talking about and we are right back here 3-5 years from now.

You can either treat the symptoms or cure the disease. Whisenhunt's offseason blunders are merely a symptom of the disease that is the Graves/Bidwill front office. Find the cure and you'll find that the symptoms just go away.

Graves doesn't have final say in football operations, either. He didn't want Whisenhut. He wanted Ron Rivera (just fired by the Bears, IIRC). Michael Bidwill overrode him and hired Whis and Whis brought Grimm along with him. That could've been a football decision, or it could have been because Whis promised to keep Clancy Pendergast as his defensive coordinator, saving the team money in the short-term.

Rivera probably wans't ready to be a head coach at the time, but it would be interesting to think about what he would've done installing the Bears' Tampa-2 D combined with the 4-6 defense he grew up with and making less dogmatic offensive hires. We probably wouldn't have made the Super Bowl, but we could have had a more competitive team for the long term.

FWIW: the Sporting News surveyed players on which coaches they'd least like to play for. Whiz nowhere in sight. Pretty surprised at #4 through #8, but they got so few votes that it's relatively meaningless.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...ants-to-play-for-Tom-Coughlin?urn=nfl-wp11594

Tom Coughlin, New York Giants - 22
Tony Sparano, Miami Dolphins - 21
Bill Belichick, New England Patriots - 15

Pete Carroll, Todd Haley, Jim Harbaugh, Rex Ryan and Jim Schwartz were next on the list, but none of them had more than six votes. Coughlin, Sparano and Belichick are clearly the meanest teachers in the school.

Coughlin and Belichick are also two of the most successful. I happen to think it's a good thing if the players don't like the HC. To me, it means the HC holds them accountable and responsible for their actions. I'm sure McGinnins would have been near the top of favorites to play for.

Well said---right on the money.

Players who want to play for rings would want to play for TC and BB.

As opposed to players who want big salaries, a country club atmosphere and little accountability.

Personally that's a good thing. I'm only accountable to my wife for all the time I spend at my country club. She doesn't seem to mind too much, it gets me out of her hair.

I have the bill sent to my office so she doesn't see what I spend either.:)

nevermind. I'm there.

He's an effing egomaniac and won't ever take responsibility for his mistakes. Just pounds the system and execution. At this point, if they can't execute in the system, you fix the muffing system so the players can execute. It's SQUARELY ON HIS SHOULDERS and he shakes it off like water on a duck. Ef that.

I'm totally out. He's systematically dismantled a super bowl talent team that was built for him and turned them into a total piece of crap with the spine of a jellyfish.

one heart murmur all over again.
bump!

What a difference 6 weeks makes....

It is almost like Whisenhunt had to hit rock bottom and then he started making adjustments, benching Keith, being inventive again. Pride is a killer but adaptability is an asset.

The fact that the team never gave up on him, coupled with MUCH better playcalling and the magical appearance of 2nd half adjustments has made me get off his back.

But I've got my eye on it still. The next time we go empty backfield on 3rd and one, I will be right back here again...however you noticed today we were rolling out the two back-2 TE set on 3rd and 1. I freaking LOVED it...we failed, but it was sooo much better.

Although he's still rolling out Chester Taylor on third and short and ALWAYS passing it then. Hello, telegraph. S.O.S.

At the time, he deserved all the criticism leveled his way. He has since made the adjustments he has needed to make and turned this team around.

I hate Millers play calling,, we are mote talented than the Niners, 15 carries by thr bean, never establishe, in and out, spread them out on 3rd and short, 2nd an short, 1st and short.

Freaking fundementally farted up football. The big plays would come regardless of if we went 3 and out the rest of the time.

I want whiz to to win and stay, but this offense is screwed up, not prepared any week. the defense is carrying the GENIUS!

A better coach would have a better staff and results.

Remember that he is learning as a head coach as well.

Don't forget about Joey Porter getting benched too. Ending his favoritism towards seasoned veterans over the younger guys is a big reason the Cards have found new life again.

Please stop. Continuously pounding "The Bean" with his 1.8YPA would have only ensured the Cards finished the game with no points scored at all.

Ken deserved the flak but I was one of the few that never wavered. I based it on my following of the Steelers for so many years. They went through some similar "growing pains" until there defense was solidified. Once that happened the team has became a power house. I see similar growing pains in the Cards using that same philosophy and Ken is bringing here.

To me, stability at the head coaching spot with someone who can actually coach is key for this organization. In terms of OCs and DCs if Ken really follows that blue print he shouldn't hesitate to make changes in that regard as needed. Holy crap, the Steelers have been hugely successful and they have gone through OCs and DC's like crazy the last 10 years or so.

Mike Lombardi and Bill Simmons said Whiz should be coach of the year.
