That's what happened in Cleveland with Holmgren and their personnel. It's a rebuild there, and they're transitioning from a 3-4 (kind of) to a 4-3, but they're certainly a more promising team right now than the Cards are, in a much tougher division.

It's just weird to think about the way that this team is constructed. There doesn't really seem to be a plan about how this team should be built. Even if the individual choices are defensible, when you look at the whole roster, you have to wonder what the vision of this team is supposed to be.

I don't see evidence of much of a vision about anything except us careening from one crisis to the next pretty much fighting fires as we go and the fires are winning right now.

What bothers me the most about Whiz is he keeps commenting that the execution needs to get better, the mistakes need to be cut down, the opportunities need to be taken advantage of, etc. etc.

In the meantime he never gets any better. He still manages the game poorly, chooses to challenge the wrong plays, doesn't manage time, doesn't motivate or prepare the team any better, etc. etc.

It's no wonder this team never gets better or the players never get better, because the coach and his staff never get any better. I think we are seeing Whiz at his best and there will never be improvement.

Seeing this for over 19 games now it really makes you wonder just how much Warner had to do with the success of the team in 08 and 09. It also makes you wonder how much Haley may have had to do with the success of the offense or maybe the combination of Haley and Warner ignoring Whiz and just doing their own thing.

The thing that bothers me most is seeing other teams make coaching changes and in two or three years finding success by actually having a plan to build the team.

The Lions and Bills come to mind and the Browns are improving. The Niners without making any real changes are looking good. Even Seattle has shown some spunk. I guess it really comes down to the coaching staff understanding the strengths and weaknesses of their players and placing them in positions to use their strengths and installing a system that plays to the team strengths. Something that seems to escape Whiz and his staff.

We just CAN'T pay a top-shelf HC like Fisher to come in and replace Whis, and unless Graves follows Whis out the door, we're not going to get a top HC to come in without giving him personnel control or an ability to handpick the GM. That's one reason why cutting Whis loose is just not an option right now.

The personnel cupboard is getting pretty bare, and we may be looking at an entire rebuild. If you're a head coach who is going to get paid $6 million per year and offered that by any number of teams, why would you come here to be stuck with Fitz (who's good), but also Kolb (whom you didn't choose--we saw what happened with #7), Daryl Washington (who is in a contract year next year), Beanie Wells (ditto), after-30 Darnell Dockett, the corpse of Adrian Wilson, and zero offensive tackles as your core?

I think that the smartest path would be to fire Graves and hire a strong general manager, allow the GM a year to figure out the personnel and decide on Whis, and then decide wether to blow out Whis and his staff after the 2012 season. The problem is maybe 70% poor talent and 25% poor coaching. The issue is that the poor coaches are allowed to dictate who comes in and out on the personnel side.

This makes a lot of sense. I am definitely sick and tired of the crap that CKW is slinging around, but your logic seems quite sound. I'd probably favor we bring in a strong GM, fire CKW, and have that GM hand-pick his coach, however.

"Whizzy poo" most likely has another full season after this one. If you're expecting him to be fired in a month you're going to be disappointed. It's going to be a long 15 months...at least.

My concern is that he wants to stay with the system and continues to say we want to do this because we know it works. Yeah it worked with Warner but he is gone and we have many different personnel. I would think that a good coach needs to be more flexible to change. Its called creativity. I just don't see that with Coach Whiz.

I don't understand this line of thinking (although I've seen it a lot here). Warner was a strong leader and he did his job. You can't coach in this league without a few strong leaders on the field. Where I fault Whiz the most is that he directed or allowed management to get rid of all the strong leaders that had held this team together.

No creativity. No common sense. A fan can look at a formation and tell you what is coming. If a fan can do that - the other team knows what is coming.

Absolutely pathetic.

This game should have been one-sided...for us.

Cardinals, with a different coaching staff and the same talent, blow out these crappy Vikings, IMHO.

I thought the game ended appropropriately when Whiz did not go for the on side kick. What a dumb a--- call.

Its just so easy. Fire the guy and things will improve. Rebuilding takes time so the sooner the better. The longer he is here the worse it will get. No more fire the GM talk as a way to deflect criticism. Whiz makes all personnel decisions. Graves is just there. There is only one problem and its Whiz. Some saw the problem awhile ago, others are just figuring it out now, has to go.
