BTW, if you have NFL Ticket you can get a free HD Tivo right now from DTV, plus the upgraded Mpeg4 5lnb dish...

Then when the Mpeg4 HD DVR's come out, you can get upgraded for free.

TivoCommunity.com has info there...on one of the forums.

Cox + no Sunday Ticket =

At least we should get all of the Card's games this year.

just had the old tivo HD DVR installed from directv ... I have a 5lnb dish so I couldn't use their off air antenna

my actual TV has an antenna knob - does anyone know if it would be possible to hook up a basic store bought HD off air antenna directly to the TV and then just change my input from HDMI to the tv channel set in order to get locals in HD?

I have the superfan package so I'll get most NFL games in HD - however, I do not want to miss out on games that are locally broadcast (blacked out of the ticket) that may be in HD

You have to have a digital (ATSC) tuner to get digital TV. Some tvs have these built in but some require a set top box. Check and see if your TV is an HDTV or is HDTV-ready.

To get OTA digital/hd channels you just need a standard uhf antenna of appropriate size and direction for your location.

I just want to say, I love HD :)

Football in HD is just absolutely astounding...even after a year of watching it this way...it is still just amazing.

I just got my new DTV HD DVR installed today.

Going to be interesting to see how these things work. I just upgraded one of our Tivo's (mainly because one broke) to see how they do, if they miss recordings, etc.

DirecTV is coming out with like 40 new HD channels over the next 6 months, including SciFi, FX, etc.

I can't wait...

You can get it, but it requires a separate tuner I believe. It costs about $500. At least that's what my brother with DTV says.

I have the HD-DVR with dual tuners. I think I may have the obsolete one that doesn't use MPEG 4. Does anyone know if DTV will upgrade me or what?

They upgraded me when I called them to see what my options were for local HD channels.

The box is buggy, though.

Sometimes when trying to watch a recorded program it'll skip right to the end and ask me if I want to delete it or not. I can't watch the program (even after a reboot), so I delete it.

Also, the rwd/fwd isn't nearly as smooth as the Tivo boxes.

Other than that, it's great.

Okay...crazy stuff on here.

You need their new Mpeg4 receivers for local HD channels over the satellite. You can still get OTA channels via satellite.

If you have a Tivo HD DVR right now, DTV will upgrade you to their new DTV HD DVR for about $199 or $299 or something.

I got mine for $99 because I called customer retention. I recommend that if you can find it.

I have heard it's buggy, but my Tivo has been buggy too. I'm hoping it will improve, as they are always doing software upgrades on it.

Does anyone know if Cox is going to do the same thing?

No idea. I just know DTV has been planning this for awhile, and this is supposed to be DTV's Year of HD or something.

I just can't wait. Battlestar Galactica is on SciFI, Rescue Me and Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX...those HD stations will be great.

I got my new DTV HR20 HD DVR...pretty cool so far, other than not having dual buffers like the old Tivo.

Recording is so much faster, Priotizing your season passes is so quick and easy...

Also it has caller ID which is pretty fun as well.

I still have not bought my flat-screen tv yet. A friend says I should wait it out and buy one at the end of this year, or early next year. He also said I should buy at Costco because if anything happens to the tv down the road, they will take back the tv with no questions.

Excuse me for the kinda interuppting question here, but...

Something that's been bothering me for the last year is HD Channel 10.1
Does anybody else have a problem getting the local HD FOX network (Channel 10.1) over the air? It never comes in smoothly for me? All the other local OTA HD channels are just fine, but FOX seems to suck. It's always jumpy, stalls, loses sound and just plain sucks. Very irritating so I have to switch over to the regular Channel 10 thru the DirecTV satellite. Yuck!

Why do you think FOX 10.1 has this problem? Anybody else seeing this???

Curious??? Thanks for any input! :)

It's never a problem for me...I have a nice antenna on the roof though. What kind of antenna are you using? And where do you live exactly?

Yeah...Channel 10.1 for some reason is the worst for us. Especially during sports broadcast. The antenna we're using is the one that DTV supplied. We live in Gilbert around Warner and Val Vista. Every other local OTA HD channel NEVER has this problem. Just FOX. Weird...

p.s. - All our equipment (HD-DVR/TIVO) works awesome. Just crazy FOX problems...
