I focus on improving our chances vs the Spurs.

Trade 1

Stoudemire, Diaw for Garnett

While Amare is a fantastic young player, he is far from an ideal matchup against Duncan. He will give up at least as much points agains TD as he scores on the other end of the floor. He is a worse defender, passer and rebounder than KG. Diaw is a non-factor against the Spurs.

Age of KG isn't an issue since this is Nash's team and Garnett is younger than him.

MIN gets a new start and they can try to build a system with Amare and Diaw's co-existing.

Trade 2

CHA - May, Harrington, Voskuhl to SAC, #8 to PHO

SAC - Kenny Thomas to CHA, #10 to PHO

PHO - #4,24 to CHA, #29 to SAC

CHA gets Okafor's frontcourt-mate at #4.

SAC gets rid of Thomas' contract, gets a late 1st rounder and May for a late lottery pick.

PHO takes Conley at #8 and the best available swingman at #10 (J. Wright, Brewer, Green or Thornton).

Conley is very quick, already a solid defender so he (sooner or later) can be able to slow down Parker. He is a also a good distributor so with Nash on the bench we don't have to base on Barbosa's non-existant playmaking skills.

Payroll for next year is $76mil for 10 players....with the draft pick(s) plus scrubs to get to roster minimum...salaries will be around $82mil...if the luxury tax threshold is at $68mil...total team payroll will be $96million...

...doubtful that Sarver goes there (with San Antonio's payroll at $65mil).

ZBO and our #1 pick to PHX for Shawn Marion. I'd do it in a heartbeat. You guys think I'm crazy?

you are crazy, but it depends on the location of our pick.

Zach Randolph and #6 for Shawn Marion? Whew I am not big on Randolph at all but he can rebound and score and a #6 pick? I'd do it instantly even if we don't want Randolph we could trade him somewhere else and with #4 and #6 we could get an upgrade at the 2 over Bell in Brewer and a replacement for Marion or another big like Wright, Noah or Horford or a Conley.

Would Seattle give up their lottery pick to get rid of Ray Allen's long contract for Shawn Marion?

Amare for Garnett would be the dumbest move this franchise has ever done.

I have been spending alot of time looking at salaries on Hoopshype and trying to figure out ways to: 1) get under the cap, 2) not hurt the team too much, 3) improve the team.

With Charlotte being under the cap, they would be able to take on Marion's salary without having to get equal $$$ coming back.

Suns gives: Marion ($16.44 mil next year)/#24/#29
Charlotte gives: G. Wallace ($6.05 mil next year)

Now this would have to be a sign and trade unless Wallace decides to pick up his player option, but his salary would still be less than Marion. This trade would allow us to add only one rookie (#4/#5), and possibly get the team under the salary cap. The only reason why I think this wouldnt happen is simply that Wallace is only 24 and I would be suprised if Charlotte traded him, unless they feel they couldnt keep him in free agency. And if that is the case, Marion and the two picks might be enough to get it done.

if the suns really want to slash payroll,
can they do this:

trade banks, marion and diaw and 2 high picks to charlotte for gerald wallace, felton and fillers?

I don't have a specific trade idea. But I don't think we need to find a star player to pair with Nash and Amare. We just need to find good role players to have a deeper rotation. One think we must find is a decent backup PG.

Speaking of Ainge having crush on Marion, if they get Durant, maybe he is willing to trade Pierce for Marion + Pike + pick #24 (or #29).

Then pick Yi/Noah/BrandonWright with #4/#5 and extend Pat Burke's and sign Pietrus to about the MLE (or sign and trade for JR and Burke).

Now, COMMIT to offense featuring Amare for GDS, we will win it all with:

Amare/Diaw/Pierce/Bell/Nash starting backed up by

Kurt/#4/LB/Pietrus

That's an incredible 9-men rotation.

What makes you think our rotation would change if we bring more guys in? Last i checked we still have D'Antoni as headcoach.

If we bring in more depth then it means someone already in the top eight will end up getting no playtime like James Jones or Kurt Thomas. And once again only 7-8 players will see any kind of minutes.

Maybe we should just trade D'Antoni

San Antonio:

Duncan
Elson
Oberto
Manu
Parker
Finley
Bowen
Horry
Vaughn

Thats 9, and Bonner gets in once and a while, but Horry plays very minimally, same w/ Vaughn, their combined minutes are probably close to the total minutes of some like Jr Jones.

I think a lot of teams don't use a lot of players, its just not as sharp of a drop off as D'Antoni. With D'Antoni you play a lot, or not at all, other coaches have a few deep bench guys who get maybe 5 minutes a game

That is wrong.

The Spurs have 12 players who have played more than 50 games and more than 10 minutes a game. The suns 8 + Banks (45 games).

Spurs rotation:
GP GS Min
B. Bowen 82 82 30.0
M. Finley 82 16 22.2
T. Duncan 80 80 34.1
F. Oberto 79 33 17.3
T. Parker 77 77 32.5
M. Ginobili 75 36 27.5
B. Barry 75 28 21.8
B. Udrih 73 1 13.0
F. Elson 70 41 19.0
R. Horry 68 8 16.6
J. Vaughn 64 4 11.8
M. Bonner 56 0 11.7

Of course their postseason rotation is not that deep.

in the playoffs, there's noroom for error,
so you will seldom see bench players unless there's an injury or "suspension"..

in the regular season, you have to give all your players a chance..
they play in the NBA,
if you reach the NBA, that means you're good at something..

got this from another forum:

Minnesota gets an interior young post player in Diaw and Marion who wants to be the main guy on another team plus a very high draft pick. I think they might go for this. If not change Diaw with Barbosa and they definatley "should".

Kurt Thomas/Banks/Cleveland pick for Miller/Hunter. I love Miller for Phoenix and I'll take Hunter back. He's good enough to give spot minutes to Amare or Garnett...both of whom are capable of playing heavy minutes without tiring. Barnes also can play the 4.

Philly does this because Thomas is an expiring contract and they can get rid of the veteran contract of Miller. And they get a talented young pg in Banks to replace him plus a nice draft pick.

Barbosa/Jones to GS for Barnes/Foyle. GS does a sign and trade for Barnes. I think the Warriors love this and although the Suns lose a potential star player they fill a greater need and get a "tough guy" type to play with Amare/Garnett.

Anyway, I just made all this stuff and didn't check all the salary matching. But I think they're all pretty close. If you were the other team (Minnesota, Philly, GS) would you make these trades? I know the Suns won't be this drastic but I wish they would be.

I am not on for crazy trades but I need some kind of NBA fix right now:
Suns trade with Mephis:
Suns Trade:
Atlanta's #1 & One of the other Suns #1
Shawn Marion
Marcus Banks
Eric Pike

Memphis Trades
#1 Pick this year
Rudy Gay or Dahntay Jones
Damion Stoudemire

Suns get the big man they needed for years, Gay is a cheaper version of Marion, and Stoudemire can back up Nash for one year. I would also add Jones or even Bell if that is what it took.

Memphis gets the player need to play next to Gasol a few draft picks to build off of. Banks can play point just not with the Suns style. Marion alone is going to make this team better.

???
You have $21mil in salaries going out...$6mil coming in...
...not even Charlotte has enough cap space to absorb that.

The salaries need to be within 125% + $100K for the League to approve.

Attention this is a major Pipe Dream but it WORKS under the cap.

1)
Phoenix Suns trade (33m$)
Shawn Marion, Kurt Thomas, Raja Bell, Marcus Banks, #4, #29

Phoenix Suns receive (33m$)
Kevin Garnett, Rashard Lewis, Johan Petro

Seattle trades
Rashard Lewis, Johan Petro

Seattle receives
Corey Magette, Mark Madsen, #29

LA Clippers trade
Corey Magette

LA Clipper receive
Raja Bell, Marcus Banks

Minnesota trades
Kevin Garnett, Mark Madsen

Minnesota receives
Kurt Thomas, Shawn Marion, #4

2.) In a sign&trade Phoenix trades James Jones, Eric Piatkowski and a top10 protected 08 draft pick for Mickael Pietrus.

3.) Sign Grant Hill to a veteran minimum contract

Roster
Kevin Garnett/Johan Petro
Amare Stoudemire/Boris Diaw
Rashard Lewis/Grant Hill
Mickael Pietrus/Leandro Barbosa
Steve Nash/#24

Look at that starting 5. 7'1 Garnett, 6'10 Amare, 6'11 Lewis, 6'7 Pietrus and 6'0 Nash. That is one of the biggest lineups in the league but it is still fast.
