Brad Davis bothers me just as much as Wondo, he offers NOTHING to the team. He was worthless in the WC (as was Wondo).

And it's not hard to see why(other than the fact that it was Germany) that turned out to be our worst game with him playing. But hey at least he's a set piece specialist lol. To think mix was wasting on the bench then and now zusi was thought to be a casualty for this gold cup. A lot has changed in a year even though we will see a lot of the same names on the roster.

The problem with Davis and this team is that they don't have anyone who is naturally left footed. Everyone that we have on the left is right footed. They aren't as good crossing with the left that Davis is. That being said, I agree with you.

Good point maybe that has something to do with Beasley being on the provisional roster. I've noticed that looking at the roster and seeing the guys that will get most of the minutes.... A good deal of them can play multiple positions as needed. I guess that's a good thing. It looks like JK is keen on having Johnson play on the left side now and keeping yedlin in the MF. I wonder if he would ever consider playing them both on the same side.

Had that been an issue he could have selected Brek Shea, who even if he was listed as a defender has more experience as a wide MF and is left footed.

U.s. Gold cup roster

Quote:
Goalkeepers (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), William Yarbrough (Club Leon)

Defenders (7): Ventura Alvarado (Club America), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Moenchengladbach), Tim Ream (Bolton Wanderers)

Midfielders (9): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (New York City FC), Alfredo Morales (FC Ingolstadt), DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham Hotspur), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

Forwards (4): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

No surprises in goal.

Hard to argue any of our defenders are better than the other, so I'm fine with the back-line selections.

With the exception of Yedlin and Zardes, Jurgen is going with experience. Ok, just means he is taking the tourney seriously.

Up top. Are you freaking kidding me? The same four you took to Brazil and when Jozy went down the team no longer had a holding striker causing the offense to all but shut down? Mistakes make you human, making the same mistake makes you stupid.

Well I don't know why he left Morris off. At the end of the day I feel like dempsey jozy AJ and zardes are going to get most of the minutes at FWD anyway. If jozy goes down we are screwed anyway because there's no one else like him in our pool when he plays his game. Hopefully jozy stays well and plays hard and smart. Then we won't be talking about wondo. It's also possible Morris gets a call if something does change.

Just saw a fox sport 1 flash that says Davis is out of the gold cup due to knee injury with garza taking his spot.

Michael Bradley has been named Captain for the Gold Cup over Dempsey. Good move IMO.

Who isn't? Shea? I beg to differ, he is left foot dominant.

The only thing Davis has going for him is set pieces, in the run of play he offers nothing at the international level.

I will disagree on Shea. Sure he is dominant left, but he can't cross well to save his life. He can however beat someone off of the dribble on occasion which is something we really need on the wings.

Good. I like Garza there better anyway.

We will disagree on Shea, the ability to cross from Davis makes no difference when he can't beat anyone on the dribble or create an opportunity to cross. Shea can beat people with speed and on the dribble but he has a different style, his crosses aren't meant to be met by heads, his crosses are normally hard on the ground in to the path of onrushing players...different style but no less effective (and often more accurate). Shea isn't a 90 minute player but neither is Davis--anyways Shea is hurt as well so he wouldn't be on the roster either.

Garza isn't a like for like replacement. Garza is a left back not a midfielder.

+3

Apparently the bspn soccer pundits don't like this move but Bradley is the leader of this team with or without a visible prop. To me it's a no brainer with or without the dempsey scandal. I think JK just pounced on that as a reason. And I like dempsey.

Garza could be in the mix at left back and Johnson can play midfield. I do like zusi but I'd rather have bedoya zardes or Johnson moving up into that slot.

I think Johnson played himself into that position and Garza really played himself out.

Overall, I was terribly disappointed. We got gifted a penalty and an own goal, and still had to spend a good twenty minutes of the first half hanging on to that lead for dear life, and we had to hang on for dear life at the beginning of the 2nd half too. That is not, NOT good. Not against a Guatemala. The final score didn't mean nearly as much as that. Hopefully this is just a blip because it was a friendly. Then it'll mean nothing and we can knock on.

I agree about Johnson being the starter. There was sloppy play for the most part and I think it was just chemistry issues and had trouble breaking them down. They looked like the better team throughout and deserved to score what they did. I thought altidore had little impact aside from his penalty he drew. I did think zardes played well in his role. Jk has a lot to think about with his midfield paring. I'm guessing the lineup might look different on Tuesday.

Hmm well good news is jk called out the team for the lazy performance and emphasis on jozy and dempsey. Jozy needs to pretend he's at the gym and use that same intensity.

rough start. Altidore and dempsey are not pairing well.

What crap. Alvarado has not been good, Jozy was awful while he was in, Dempsey flops too much (although he puts himself in the right place more often then not)...overall the team just seems off, inexcusable in a match that "counts" at home.

We are winning but Honduras has been taking it to us for long stretches

What percentage of passes does Beckerman play backwards? He may break up passes but he does nothing once we have possession

Beckerman has been himself. An attack killer. Honestly I don't what jk sees in him.

Like many have said on he will play it back for sure. He basically took a scoring opportunity away from his own team.

Ugly win really should have been a draw. You can tell the weather played a factor. It has been very humid here this summer. The U.S. players collectively just aren't on the same page and are too lazy and careless at times. Jk needs to figure out a Bradley pairing because beckerman sucked. I'd rather see mix out there because he's active and looks to play forward. Altidore paired with dempsey looks like two forwards with concrete shoes. Wondo didn't do anything to change it. There's no high pressure from the forwards.

I thought brooks played well aside from one or two mess ups. Alvarado was poor especially late. Jk needs to figure out the d pairing as well. Just a lot of inconsistent play.
