Spurs coach Gregg Popovich looking for another meeting w LaMarcus Aldridge today or tomorrow, per source.

I have a hard time believing this. If it is true could it be that LMA has chosen us?

Spurs must get desperate, Ginobili will likely retire, Splitter is gone, Duncan 39 and can play only like 20mpg and 60 games. Parker looks done and Diaw's motivation is always a questionmark.

If the Spurs dont get Aldridge they are a fringe playoff team imo and only that because Popovic still gets scrubs to play to their limits.

All the teams he's considering have pluses and minuses but San Antonio is OLD. I don't understand why he ever considered the in the first place. And why is he meeting with the Lakers again? Their franchise is currently a disaster.

I think the Spurs probably thought it would be a quick process, but with him waffling a bit because of us, he wants to close. I don't blame him at all--it means he has a real fear that LMA won't choose San Antonio. I sure hope we are looking at doing the same.

The San Antonio option seems to me like Payton and Malone chasing a ring with the Lakers years ago except LMA would be joining the old vets for one last push.

It seems pretty clear to me that the Suns offer the best roster to build around the talents of Aldridge.

The Spurs old guys are old, but looking at next year, they would easily be one of the top 3 favorites to win it all and after Duncan/Ginobli retire, a core of Leonard/Aldridge/Green is a solid building block, especially with the cap exploding next year when they can try to add another major FA to continue winning.

and i've got to believe that Pop ain't retiring if he gets Aldridge. That has to be part of the sales pitch. Throw in the fact that his kids live in Texas, one of them in SA and you're looking at a situation where he can win NOW, has solid building blocks for the future, a HOF coach and he's close to family. Those are all pretty damn good reasons to go there.

that said... I obviously hope he doesn't.

Ginobili is retiring now.

Even if not he is done. Why do you think he is waiting until Tuesday to reveal his intentions in an Argentinian Paper writing his own article?

He is probably only waiting to not derail the Spurs recruiting pitches.

I don't see the Texas thing being relevant at all, if Aldridge cared about Texas than tell me why he choses to live in Los Angeles in the offseason.

I think Suns should try for another meeting with LMA asap.

Bring Aaron Nelson & entire staff this time so they can talk to him about what they can do to help him extend his career.

btw for those saying the Spurs could offer Green less money because of taxes ..

NBA players pay taxes in the states each game is played in. So Green gets a benefit from having more games in Texas but not full value on his contract. Besides the obvious problem that he could be traded anytime and be stuck in Toronto with his under market value contract.

I get Spurs are a great organization, but four of their key players are only going to be around 1-2 years. Green and Kwami are good roll players, but not stars. Once the other 4 leave the other two will not be able to carry the team even with LA???

Plus they just traded their only true center.

I guess the sell with the Spurs is one year, that's all, and you win a championship. I don't buy it but I'm not Aldridge.

I think their sell is that they've been churning along for nearly 20 years, they keep finding guys and they keep winning.

That too. However, this is likely Tim Duncan's last season. Ginobili might be talked into playing one more season. The Spurs are going to lose a couple of good players after this season.

All fing start when David Robinson was done for that year then they got Duncan. Parker, Manu and even Splinter where all overseas finds. But the NBA has caught up with scouting.

Kawhi was traded from Pacer because they already had SF talent. He was on the outs with Pop and almost traded a year ago. Danny Green has bounced around the league and overseas, I don't see him being more than a role player.

Now Spurs want a second meeting? Geeze! Suns better ask for another one too, I guess.

I think you have listed some very valid points and the major reasons why the Spurs are the favored organization for DMA. IMO the key is how important is it to DMA to play for a team in Texas (his home state). I too hope he comes to Phoenix but we really don't know what the major decision item is for him.
