I tell you it is neck and neck. Which quarterback is going to suck less ? I dunno, but it is a dogfight.

John Skelton - Blew it. If John Skelton wants to be an NFL quarterback then he has find a fire in his belly. I question his competitive spirit to be honest with myself and the board. How you work so hard to get to his point, and you play like that ? No wonder Whiz doesn't know what to do. Disheartening, frustrating, and hope draining. That describes Skelton's game last night. Yeah, the line is horrible, but our line has been horrible for years. Skelton didn't get it done.

Kevin Kolb - BLOK is BLOK. As I said, who sucks less. Kolb is just plain poor. Both his INT's were horrible. What we have all seen is exactly what we saw last night. Same problems, same mistakes, and same lack of patience. I will say this, we was a little better last night then his past play. But as we now, anything times zero is zero.

This is pathetic. I wouldn't give the job to either of these guys, and NO, I wouldn't put Lindley back there either.

If this is the ceiling for these QB's we are looking at 3 wins if we are the luckiest team in that last 20 years. Wholey Moley that was bad.

You've pretty much nailed it. Our D had better step up or it's going to be a brutal season to watch. It's so tough to land a QB in the NFL these days. I personally believe that the Cardinals will have to employ the same approach they used when they took a chance with Warner. Unless you have a top 3 pick, you have to get real lucky to draft a QBOF. Instead, we should develop what we have, BUT always bring in a vet (35 yr old who's proven he's an NFL QB). Keep bringing in veterans, until you have that 2-14 season & can draft a young stud. I know it's a sore spot with so many on this board, but this is exactly why you DON'T win meaningless games & TWICE lose out on franchise QB'S. We had BOTH Mannings wrapped up, yet figured out a way to lose them both. So typical of this franchise. We lose when we should win & we win when we should lose!

I agree with all of this.

This was Skeltons chance to take the job and didn't play with the fire he needed to. He did have a couple nice throws dropped, but he still didn't step up.

I have been all over Kolb and his suck play. But I give him credit he played with some fire and did stand in the pocket more than his norm. The int's looked so bad I wonder if the receiver ran the wrong rout? How else could the throw be so far off.

The online is the glaring problem. Nobody can play behind that. It's embarrassing.

Even our 3rd stringer Lindley looked mediocre against backups.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt admitted that his quarterback situation is getting murkier instead of clearer.

Kevin Kolb almost took a giant step forward on Thursday night, but two mind-numbing interceptions cost him dearly. His battle with John Skelton now figures to press on for another week. Through four preseason games, the two quarterbacks have combined to throw two touchdowns and five interceptions.

Once again -- the worst traits of each manifested themselves

for Skelton, its the hurried, high throw that giftwraps an INT for the free safety.

for Kolb, its the utterly inconceivable throw: I'm not sure which was worse-- the rollout where he could see the whole field in front of him and floated it to......? In the replay I couldnt tell who he was trying to get the ball to. The second was the classic decide pre snap where the ball was going and throw it there regardless.

It was tough to evaluate Skelton -- only because with DJ Young it was such a jailbreak on passing plays.

I don't know, Karma. That first roll-out INT was HORRIBLE, but it wasn't Kolb's typical problem. He escaped the pocket at the right time and he didn't necessarily rabbit out of it. I thought he improved his pocket (such as it was) presence last night.

In theory, this is now an even race again. In reality, I think it just helps the team in their blind dedication to starting Kolb regardless. I said it before camp and I'll say it again--they want to try and prove their investment right.

I think there's some truth to this but I don't think it would have come into play if Skelton had stepped in last night and led the team down the field a few times before turning it over to Kolb. I think it was Kolb's job to lose from the beginning but the coaching staff was truly willing to let him lose it. Unfortunately, Skelton wouldn't cooperate.

Denny passed on Rodgers and Cutler. Whiz passed on Flacco. We have had

our chances

I must admit that Skelton's pass was ill advised as a whole, but credit him with the fact that he threw it the only place where it could have been caught. If it had been thrown lower, as some suggest, it would have been intercepted by the trailing defender. That pass should just never have been thrown to start with.

I think any team would try and do that. You can't blame them. It's just like a 1st round pick is going to get a longer leash than a 3rd rounder because more is invested. I still think Skelton will be the starter game 1 though.

I still say, Skelton should sue Young for assisting the defense.

I still think it is the same way it has always been. Kolb is going to rally and get some folks behind him. I think he is the better QB at this point in time. My only beef is his durability. Kolb>John, but John will most likely, actually, be able to play the whole season. If Kolb can stay healthy than it becomes a no brainer to me.

The coaching staff knows that by starting Young, Skelton was going to fail. When KK came in, it didn't take long to get Young out of the game. IF and it's a BIG IF KW doesn't make a decision before Thursday's game, I'll be thinking that it was a fair fight, provided each gets time behind the first team OL, this week.

I really wish we would pick up a older NFL QB in case both of our guys cannot cut it. I would sure not like to start the season like 1-5 or something absurd. It would ruin the whole year. I have just been going through the worst Cubs season in my life. They are on track to lose 100 games. Theo Epstein and his plan sUck.

I just do not take these preseason games that seriously. I may be stupid but that is just the way I look at it. Kolb or Skelton or Skelton or Kolb. Makes no difference to me. It will to them. Just stay healthy with the people we have.

This thread title is misleading. There is no heat whatsoever to this "QB race"

Neither are playing this week. Both team's are playing backups and scrubs. So the decision will be based on games to date and practice this week.

Of course I can blame them. It can kill a team to stick with a bad player just to try and justify their draft slot/trade and contract cost. Let the best player start. I believe Skelton is better than Kolb.

I prefer Skelton over Kolb but John had a chance to show up to practice and preseason games and demonstrate that he was clearly the better option. He failed to do that and now we're probably stuck with Kolb starting. I think anyone can argue which of these two is the better QB but I don't think either side has the high ground when it comes to arguing which one deserves to start. Neither one of them deserves to start.
