They can win but history proves they have a better home field advantage with the roof closed...

That's because they didn't have a good enough team to overcome a little bit of adversity (oh, it's not loud enough for us to win today!) :)

Colder? Isn't it supposed to be 70 at kickoff? That is hardly cold even for desert dwellers.

I think the winning % with the roof open vs closed is overblown, how many times with the roof closed might we have lost if the roof was open? Seriously. All a bunch of nonsense. It is all about the teams playing more than whether you can see the sky or not.

And look at our stadium with the roof opened. The opening is barely a little hole in the center over the field. It's not like the whole lid slides off or something. There is a TON of "stadium" to reflect sound back downwards towards the field.

The whole debate about whether it's louder with the roof opened or closed could be easily solved with an SPL meter at the sidelines. Check it both ways, opened or closed. Having attended every game there (minus 2) since the stadium opened, I don't notice ANY difference in noise one way or another. But measure it at field level - and if it is quieter down there, then fine, close the damn roof. But, if as I suspect, there's no difference or minimal difference - then it should always be open the last half of the season when the heat is gone.
It just feels like football when you have open air. This doesn't come close to open air but I still enjoy it

They have showed the nestible meter several times and no significant drop off with the roof open.. team starts playing better and it will be plenty loud

Must have been pretty loud in there. Palmer in his interview just said the crowd was amazing and that the roof was closed. He

I am sure if the roof was closed it would not have been as close a game! Heck the Bengals might not have scored red at all.

The "Nest-ibel" meter was hitting 111 at various times during the game. I've NEVER seen it higher, no matter who the foe, no matter roof opened or closed.

I'll repeat what I said earlier - I really believe the stadium's construction funnels the noise right back downward, even with the roof open - there's all kinds of structure up there around that relatively tiny hole to keep the noise inside. Sounded loud as ever to me in there tonight. KEEP IT OPEN once November rolls around!

Do to this thread I watched that today. You're right it was the same as it's been all year. At 14-7 it wasn't so loud. I don't think the roof had much to do with that. After the 21 point run in the third and the end of the fourth it was rocking. Bottom line if the play is high so is the noise.

It's a total joke that people got concerned about the roof being open. Last night our nest was as loud as any game I've ever been to! It totally felt like playoff football!!! What an awesome, awesome game!!!

Do fans think that the open roof contributed to Butler's punting?

lol Not any sober ones!

Butler is certainly a capable kicker. He's still WAY too slow getting the ball away, and kicks too many clunkers, though he's improved on the latter lately, and is booming more kicks over 50 yards.

I can't believe teams aren't coming after him at least once a game. I held my breath every time he was back there last night, especially late.

Perhaps we should stop talking about it, and just keep it a secret. ;)

Vikings game - roof open !!!

:bday::bday::bday:

:newcards:

Arians says that the roof open is bad and he could definitely tell the noise was less on the field during the cinci game.

If it were up to him, it would be closed all the time.

So...yeah....

Funny how those that DON'T go to the game ...like it open

Those of us that go KNOW that the stadium is 50% louder with it closed.

Teams that we've played....they have ALL gone to silent count when the roof is closed
Cincy....no silent count needed....it's not loud enough with the roof open

It's obvious those of you who don't go....have an opinion not worth listening to.

BIM goes to every game. In fairness, it may not seem to be different depending on where he sits.

BA verified that it isn't as loud on the field. Noise goes up and will bounce back down in an enclosed environment. In the seats it goes up and funnels out the opening. Just like yelling in a cone.

So dumb, big games we should be using every home field advantage we have! Not sure who is making the decision to have it open but maybe they should consult the players and coaches to see what they prefer, after all it's about winning! I don't give two craps to have it open for tv or the blimp or whatever ******** reason if the players and coaches say they want it closed its an advantage then it should be closed!

what makes you think it is people who do not go to the game that want it open?
