Being 7 feet tall and weighting 260lb does not make one "Shaq", BC.
Very true. And thanks, CardsSunsDbacks. As I've posted, it's a good goal, isn't it? The higher you aim the higher you reach. And his reference to Shaq was not just about him. It was about the Shaq-Kobe combo with DBook at the Center and Shooting Guard positions.

His thinking in terms of Shaq offsets his earlier (younger) quote citing his intended versatility of playing outside as well. Or anything he said while being assigned the Power Forward position at UofA.

In all fairness, any future references to those should include his "Shaq-Kobe" comment.

I have no doubt that Ayton will embrace his potential as the greatest Suns Center ever.

As has been pointed out by other posters, that won't be hard to do.

I'm watching Jaren Jackson Jr. on NBA TV.

If the Suns were not locked into Ayton I'd be drafting this guy. So talented.

If the Suns go for Porter it would have to be a trade-up from #16.

The Suns are drafting Ayton #1.

Looking like he possibly drops to or past 16. If hes there do you take him though? Im still hoping we do what it takes to move up and get Doncic or Young. We have the assets for it to be a possibility. I hope really hope the suns are aggressive. We dont need to make all those picks. I would really prefer we didn't.

FiveThirtyEight released their CARMELO rankings for players from this draft class. It's a pretty detailed computer analyses of the players, using their NCAA stats and adjusting them for strength of schedule and pace and then comparing them to other NBA players to sort of project what sort of players they'll be. Normally they release them after the draft but they put them out early this year. Here is their opening paragraph explaining things...

Here is a link to their scout rankings, it's from ESPN Insider.

And here is info on their CARMELO data from last year.

FYI, CARMELO stands for "Career-Arc Regression Model Estimator with Local Optimization"

Ayton came in first of all prospects in the rankings, comparing his impact to Anthony Davis, Jahlil Okafor, and Greg Oden. I know 2 of those names may raise concern but if you read the article on look into their rankings and projections it makes more sense. It's definitely worth reading, their projections are quite advanced but it's tough to see how accurate they are. They didn't include rankings for Doncic or Michael Porter Jr because they use NCAA stats to figure things and MPJ only played a few minutes and Doncic is European.

Here is the link to their 2018 draft and prospect rankings and breakdown...

The article contains links to sort of see how their CARMELO rankings work and view them for other NBA players to sort of compare things and get a better grasp on things.

for all the trash people talk about Melo, when he was in his prime he was a difference maker. The Nuggets were atrocious FOREVER before him. first season with him, they went to the playoffs, made it every year he was there and even gave a great Lakers team a run in the WCF and then in year two with the Knicks took that woeful franchise to 54 wins and the second round.

If Ayton ends up the Center equivalent of Carmelo, we're still getting a GREAT player.

no. That kid's broken and is going to get worse as the wear and tear on his body gets much worse.

It's too good of a draft with too good of players likely to be there at 16 to go for a guy who has never shown ANYTHING in college AND has HUGE injury concerns.

If the medical reports is the reason Porter is dropping... I don't think so.

I might take him if he drops to 59. Okay, maybe even 31. But that says as much about my opinion on the state of the Suns as it does his injury. I just don't want to see us have to deal with another pivotal injury.

That has nothing to do with Carmelo Anthony. That's just the name of the 538 AI program.

So great to hear Ayton say "Can't wait to get out there with Devin Booker and Josh Jackson, we're young team and we'll be ready to go". Referring to the Suns in the first person like that, it's amazing.
