I know it's going to be a new camp for not only rookies but for the whole team. New coaches, new system etc...

So, realistically, what do you expect from this mini-camp this weekend?

For Ben Patrick to demonstrate why he should have been a first day draft pick ;)

A couple of surprise cuts and one or two surprise pick ups.

We're either over or pushing the roster limit of 83. I believe Wiz feels there still needs to be some tweaking to give him the roster he feels he needs. There figure to be a few roster/cap casualties coming out of the various NFL camps; but in order to capitalize on these opportunities, Whisenhunt will need enough wriggle room to sign a couple of these guys. This won't be possible unless he cuts a few players (either rooks or vets - based on the combination of performance, physical potential and cap-burden).

I'd expect most of the camp activity to involve (a) high tempo, (b) familiarization with the playbook and (c) conditioning. (I doubt you'll see very much hitting).

What this implies is: Woe to the vet who comes in with a big gut hanging over his belt or deposits his breakfast or lunch somewhere around the 30-yard line. And woe to the rook who can't keep up with the tempo or - for the umpteenth time - lines up in the wrong position. (You've got to figure the new honcho in town will want to make examples of at least a couple of these guys).

I'm not positive about this, but I'd guess that anyone whom the coaches feel isn't fast enough, big enough, strong enough or bright enough to meet the minimum requirements of their positions will be given a quick hook.

I wouldn't get too hung up over who lines up where. This is the time for the coaches to try a bunch of different things to get a better idea of who's best suited to play where, who's more versatile or less versatile etc. etc.

But I would focus on how crisp the offense executes its plays (and how well members of the defense are able to keep up with the offense).

Since it's a new coach, do you think more emphasis will be put on familiarizing everyone with the new system? I am wondering how crisp the Offense (and Def) can look with a whole new system to learn.
I don't think we'll see any Denny Greens "I'm the new boss or get out" stuff (ie: Kendall) I think you're right, tho, I would think Whis will look and see who picks up his system the quickest and make some decisions based off of that, not off of ego

No one getting hurt. The Falcons' season is essentially over after losing DeMarrio Williams for three months in a weight training accident and Rod Coleman for possibly the year via JetSki. No one wins a championship in May.

Yes, but the Cardinals championship is always in April at the draft.

I have no expectations.

Every camp (for every team) has the following annual occurences:

1. Late round draft pick looks like "the steal of the draft!".
2. High draft pick looks "even better than we thought"
3. First round bust from year's past "looks like he is ready for a breakout year!"
4. Somebody will show up "20 lbs lighter" or with "10 lbs of added muscle" and be ready for a big year

with the likelihood of any of that mattering in October as pretty low

Its just what happens in the offseason

I dont expect much. No one is allowed to even hit yet.

The only thing I expect to find out who is overweight and who is in shape?

And

Are they going to experiment or cross train with more players at other positions like Wells @ OG, Ross @ LT, Gandy @ RT, Levi @ RT, Okeafer/Berry @ 3-4 OLB, and so on.

As for finding anything out about skill level at this point in time when no one is allowed to hit is very very misleading.

Yes, October is traditionally the death of hope.

dont get me wrong -- this really applies to all teams in the NFL

Out of the 32 teams, I bet that at least 20 of them will have their local media breathlessly report that they may have found the "steal of the draft" -- based on three minicamp practices in shorts.

Its the same stuff for every team, every year.

All 32 teams will say "We got a steal of the draft" or " I am surprise nobody drafted this kid". Here is my favorite "Everybody has come in shape and looking good out there. They're working hard and They're picking up the system quicker than I expected. They're are a few udfa out there that can possibliy make the team and possibliy start from day one."

What I am looking for is to see how comfortable Levi Brown looks at Right tackle. How the offensive line is looking.

Everyone looks good in shorts. I believe there is going to be alot of contact in the first mini camp.

As Jeff mentioned there might be a surprise or two happening. The bar is going to be set a whole lot higher than we might remember in the immediate past. This means some of the low hanging fruit is going to fall off the tree pretty quickly as the eyes brighten up when their comrades pack up and leave the building.
