If I am a Rams fan, this trade would've thrilled me LAST year. This year? Not so much. I believe Goff and Wentz are at least a full level below Mariota and Winston as QB prospects.

To be fair, if you were a Rams fan last year, you would have been in a town that actually supports a winner.

I, too, like Goff best. Of course I'm the guy who didn't like Aaron Rodgers. On the other hand all the guys I've reached out to say they're going with Wentz. IMO Tenessee made out best regardless of how this plays out. I'm not convinced either guy is a franchise QB. Tennessee could have a better shot at a quality QB next year.

Mariotta?

I'm not convinced Mariota will ever be a good NFL QB.

One common argument you are seeing for Wentz over Goff is similar to the Alex Smith over Rodgers argument. Wentz is seen as the superior athlete, whereas (like Rodgers) Goff is seen as a guy who excelled in one particular system.

For all those who believe the Rams gave up too much, think about this. The Rams got a ton of draft picks in the RGIII deal, and have not taken the next step. Why? The have had continuity. They have the same coach. It is because they never were good at QB. Plain and simple. If you aren't good at QB, it is almost impossible to be a competitive team in the NFL. The move is a solid move. Whether they get the right guy and have a plan to support and develop him is secondary to that. The Redskins didn't make a bad deal for a QB, they just selected the wrong one. You give up whatever you have to in order to get a top QB. It is never a bad move. However, selecting the wrong one is.

That being said...the Rams will probably butcher the move and select Wentz over Goff.

I would argue that you haven't really seen a team make a blockbuster trade like this in the NFL and have success (or if it has happened, it isn't the norm).

I agree that QB has been a major issue with the Rams, but they are giving up a lot of the capital that will be used to replace veterans with quality, young talent.

And as I pointed out, there are MANY ways to acquire a good QB, teams just have to take their opportunities. Trading up a few years ago and taking Derek Carr would've been one of them for the Rams.

I think from my years of watching football, that if you don't currently have an elite QB, you don't stop trying to get one, but you can't overpay. The Rams settled on Bradford for way too long, and didn't bring in a credible competitor even as Bradford struggled through injury and poor play. It reminds me of the Jake Plummer years, or the years the Cardinals passed on guys like Aaron Rodgers because they had an adequate starter.

I just will NEVER argue that you give up 6 picks to have the outside chance at a franchise QB.

2-1 TD INT ratio, almost 3,000 yards in 12 games with 62.2% completion for a trainwreck team . . . umm . . . he already is?

Takes more than 3/4 of one season. NFL Defenses have a way of figuring out most gimmicks.

If he keeps a good level up, then I will admit I am wrong. I just don't see it long term.

How bout Colin Krapernick & the 7th overall pick to the Browns for #2? Then Chip can take whichever QB is still left. Does the value chart work for that?

Don't know if value chart works but I don't think they want that.

Remember they wanted Kaep to take a paycut before getting RGIII and now we know Kaep was balking at taking a cut and getting a 2 yr 14 mill deal to play for the defending champions instead of maybe the team with the #1 pick in 2017 draft. Ironically that Denver deal would be more then he'd make in SF after SF cuts him. He'll never sees those additional years he's currently signed for. Speculation, but realistic speculation.

The 49ers also have to look out for the Eagles to leapfrog them too. Reports were they were interested in making a deal for the Titans pick. Perhaps they deal with Cleveland or someone else like Jaguars or something.

There must have been some serious competition for the 1st pick for the Rams to give up this much. I bet some other trade offers were very close.

I love playing in a competitive division. Great move by the Rams as long as it works out. I would go Goff over Wentz, but that is just me. I get the appeal of Wentz, but I just feel he has too many unknowns. They have Case to start right away, they have Gurley to pound the ball, and they have a decent defense.

I love competition, and this could make the Rams more competitive and push the Cardinals to get even better.

Wentz could be good but I am with you, too many unknowns from a small school... I like Goff the most too

Who knows - it's all smoke and mirrors. Rams could have been bidding against themselves, and Titans would still have said they got a lot of credible offers after the fact so not to damage any future negotiation possibilities with them.

The last four teams that have traded up in the draft to either the 1st or 2nd pick and then taken a QB with that pick:

Colts - Jeff George (1990)
Chargers - Ryan Leaf (1998)
Falcons - Michael Vick (2001)
Redskins - Robert Griffin (2012)

Woof!

I would have to imagine that in each of those cases, the team trading down took a look at those guys and said..."meh". There are some teams even without an immediate need at that position that may not pass on someone they thought was a sure fire type player.

Fanspeak updated their draft order for the trade, so I used the Fanspeak ratings just to run their mock simulator get a sense of what a Tennessee draft might look like with all of those picks. They are going to be able to add a lot of talent.

Rumor has it that the Eagles were also talking trade with the Titans but there's no way they were looking at trading that many picks.

Who are you talking about? Wentz or Goff? Because in the media there is not even a definite consensus on who is the better QB as far as that's concerned.

Wentz. I believe he's a stud but I thought Leinart was as well lol

Didn't the Giants trade up for Eli Manning?
And wasn't the 6th guy John Elway?

I think the bigger unknown is Goff, Wentz played in a pro style offense IMO his biggest weakness is he tends to hold on to the ball in the pocket waiting for a play to develop.

I'm a pac 12 guy and usually I would side with the guy from that conference but IMO it's become the hardest conference to evaluate QB play with all the spread offense they play.
