Training Camp Experience

I might be in the minority, but I really miss going up to Flagstaff for Training Camp. Just the feel of the Camp is so different. It is nice to get out of the heat and have a real camp experience. Also, the players seem to be much more accessible at camp in Flagstaff and it is easier to obtain autographs, if you are into that. Also, you are more than likely to run into players and coaches at the local restaurants and shops. Just my opinion, but to me it is more of a camp feel in Flag than in Glendale.

I miss Flagstaff very much. Sitting in the pines watching our kids having fun and learning. Bringing the family with us. Meeting the players who were always friendly. Yes I miss those days. There was nothing like it. There never will be again.

I can get to the stadium in less than 15 minutes. I've gone a couple of times, but probably not again.

Yup. I've been saying it since the left Flag. They went from one of the best training camp experiences to having one of the worst now. I get that it is easier access for some but it seems like there is less buzz about camp now that it is in Glendale. Even on this forum, Seems like less camp reports.

I love that they are in Glendale. Great facility and I have an opportunity to watch them practice where I wouldn't if they were all the way up in Flag still.

I'm fine with it but it isn't the same. Maybe it's better for casual fans. Only diehards went to Flag. Also, it isn't the Cards fault frankly, NAU tried to play hardball about the accommodation's and lost.

Went to the Fan Fest practice today. I couldnt care less about autographs myself but I had wished the Cards had set up tables for the kids to line up to get their fav players autographs as the case last season. I usually go to 2-3 practices a season being only 15 mins from my house but the experience isnt the same as it was in Flag.

Used to go to Flag all the time for TC. Scheduled a couple of vacation days around it and for a few days you get out of the insane Phoenix heat.

Never been to a UOP TC, and have no desire to go to Glendale. Flagstaff TC was like a mini-vacation.

And nobody has mentioned the condition that training camp put the UofP field in. The way it looked later in the season was embarrassing. It looked like Oakland coliseum

Flagstaff was a magical place. I was always looking for opportunities to fly out there for TC. Glendale... not so much.

If I still lived out there, I no doubt would attend a few sessions, but I'm not flying cross country for it.

Reported that 23,500 fans were at the Cardinals practice on Saturday.

While most "hard-cores", including myself, are disappointed with the loss of training camp in the cool pines of Flagstaff, for the Cardinals organization it is a big win, and they can only be pleased with the outcome.

The UoP arrangement is exposing not only the Cardinals, but also the stadium experience to greater numbers of fans. For many of the casual fans, attending training at UoP may be their first exposure to a "live" pro football experience. My guess is, in many cases it will prompt them to purchase tickets for a regular season game or more in the future.

The old guard meanwhile will reminisce of days spent in the intimate setting among the pines in Flagstaff; and the frying pan that Sun Devil stadium was on Sunday afternoons in September/October.

I miss it too. I loved going to Flag.

But seeing thousands of kids at Fan Fest on Saturday made me think about all the kids who would never see the team practice in Flag.... but would in Glendale. It's easier and cheaper for a lot of families and opens the experience up for kids and adults who might otherwise never see a practice.

I understand the positives of the Glendale move, and they are vast and overall longterm good for the team.

I will simply always miss the pines. It was a phenomenal experience. And yeah, part of me does miss the absolute deathbowl that SDS was, miserable and depressing as it and the team both were, it holds a certain mystique. However, I'll never forget the first game in UOP when the loudest cheer was a rolling wave as people entered the doors and the AC hit 'em in the face.

That is what I was thinking. And most areas have more parking available than NAU.

Of course there is.

But there isn't NFL football, close proximity to the players, etc. THAT was the atmosphere.

Flag is still awesome and worth a visit or two each year (esp. in summer).

Honestly training camp in Glendale sucks. Great for new fans but access to the team stinks. Sorry. I used to be able to get my daughter an autograph, now I don't even try. There are to many grown men and women who worm their way to the front row and act like little children. Not worth it. What ever happen to the tables!?

I don't like it either, but I seriously doubt it's ever going back. The team is adding to it's profit margin each season and players and coaches like going home at night.

I remember going to a morning practice in midweek and I counted the number of fans watching. 86. That was the day I had about a 10 minute chat with Joe Greene while the dline was running drills. It wasn't exactly distracting, because I NEVER saw Joe Greene do much coaching.
