I believe its Manusky and T Austin (I hope I am wrong on that one). Sounds like Manusky might be in line to take over the Chargers DC job with Rivera going to the Panthers as thier HC.

I do not see this setting up very well for us....Manusky goes to SD since he was with them before as thier LB coach and K. Butler denies us again because if he has waited this long for that DC job he might as well stick it out a few more yrs. In this scenario I see us going to T. Austin and will try to talk him up like we did will B. Davis. Again, I hope I am waaaaay off base here.....

Yeah, I think that Butler would at least like the opportunity to talk about coming here since he and Whiz are good friends. It would be a shame if he weren't allowed.

1. Manusky is still under contract with the 49ers. While he could go talk to Carolina for the HC job, unless the 49ers grant permission, he can't come to AZ to talk to the Cardinals. Until Harbaugh officially lets Manusky go -- I doubt SF allows him to talk to the Cards.

2. Butler is in the middle of the playoffs. It isn't him -- yet.

3. I suspect Austin is one of them. Could be serious, could be simply an accommodation for a former employee.

I do not know the answer to this but would like to hear some comments. How do you take a linebacker coach, or QB coach, or whatever and then hire him to fill another coaching position for which he has had no or little experience? This seems to happen often but does not make a lot sense to me. If you need a defensive coordinator why not hire one who has been doing it. Maybe this works just great in football but in the real world of business that seldom happens.

I'll bet a lot of people would be surprised to see how many pro assistants have little or no prior NFL experience when they are hired and how many never played in the NFL.
