If we are in fact first it is even more important we don't let him leave. Get it done Cards.
you KNOW we're going to let him leave... even if we want him.

God, hope its not Austin... we need someone with a proven track record to turn around this D.Sweet. If we hire Teryl Austin I'd puke. Do you have a link? I'm not questioning, but I'd love to read the article.
You are too old and too un-hip to talk like that kind sir.

Apparently Manusky does not have an interviewed lined up with San Deigo yet. The team has only expressed interest to his agent. Thus the tweet earlier in the thread about an interview is "tenative". Manusky's short list may be AZ and the Cowboys.
They can bring in whoever they want as long as they hire John Fox.
I am concerned about competing with SD and Dallas -- not so much from a money standpoint, but from where three respective teams are at.
If Manusky's ambition is to be a NFL head coach: your best move is to take the best NFL talent to work with and go from there. SD already has a good defense. Dallas is close. AZ needs work.
I think if Manusky produces a top 5 type defense in SD or Dallas, he remains a hot NFL head coaching candidate. I am not sure if taking a #31 AZ defense and making it a (lets say) #18 would do it.
I Manusky is basing his decision based Solely off defensive personnel on the roster we are certainly screwed.
Why would you say that? We have Dockett and Wilson locked up long term. We have young and talented players in Campbell, Washington, Toler, Scofield and DWilliams. We have an excellent FS in Rhodes. We have a former pro bowl corner who just needs to get back on track.
So as I've said before the new guy won't find the cupboard bare just disorganized and lacking the Willy Wonka "you get nothing" attitude needed for success in the NFL.
Sounds exactly like what a motivated DC looking for a challenge with a real upside would be wanting.
I just see more of a finished product on defense with SD and Dallas vs AZ. We will see what he prefers
Excellent!Dave Wannstedt might be SD's number one choice. He and Turner teaming back up again from their Dallas and Miami days. Interview already set up I believe.

Manusky gets an interview

The Cardinals and coach Ken Whisenhunt spent Tuesday doing their first interview for the defensive coordinator spot, talking to Greg Manusky — who was the DC for the 49ers the past four seasons. The 49ers were ranked 13th overall as a defense and 16th in scoring defense this past season.
Manusky went to college at Colgate and then spent more than a decade (1988-99) as a linebacker in the NFL. He was teammates with Russ Grimm and Ken Whisenhunt with the Redskins in 1989 and 1990. As a linebackers coach in San Diego and then his stint in San Francisco, he oversaw Pro Bowlers like Donnie Edwards, Shawne Merriman, Justin Smith and Patrick Willis. He is also reportedly going to interview for defensive coordinator positions with both the Chargers and the Cowboys.
The Cardinals are expected to have another candidate interview this week.
Oop! Another hiring of one of Whiz's buddies. Pass.
