Looks like Manusky won't be coming here.
.

Pretty insightful stuff from Somers:

I don't think we should underestimate the importance of having a franchise quarterback will have on the decisions of experienced coordinators such as Manusky.

I know, that sounds odd when talking about a defensive coordinator, but consider that Manusky has coached in San Francisco the last four years. He's fielded some solid defenses, yet the 49ers haven't been able to win because of poor head coaching and quarterbacking.

If I'm a defensive coordinator looking for a job, I like the idea of having Philip Rivers on the other side of the ball.

I still believe Manusky sees the lack of talent on this roster to be a successful 3-4 team, which would be a reflection on him.

I can't wait to be disappointed with a no name/mediocre DC hire if Butler rejects this team. :(

I'm not so sure we will ever get the chance to interview him. As you said, a no name guy who doesnt even greatly know the 3-4 is the likely replacement

If we can't get a decent DC to come here because the talent sucks then why was Davis fired? If proven successful coaches shy away from us due to talent then Davis wasn't the issue.

Now if I'm interviewing with the Chargers and Cards I may be swayed by the talent and or situation (Cards no QB & Bidwill perception). Also Manusky is familiar with the Chargers org so I would think he has a comfort level there.

There are probably a gazillion DC prospects floating out there in Assistant Coaching Land. Probably 10% of these are qualified.

Yet we zero in on a few needles in a very big haystack.

Even if it isn't Manusky, Butler, Austin etc. - you've got to figure that there are a bunch of really good DC's none of us ever heard of who would be good candidates for the job.

And with the Steelers making a big comeback we have to wait to talk to Butler. At halftime I thought the Ravens had that game in the bag.

Just tossing out a name here, but one we Cards' fans have seen the past few years.

What about Kevin Greene the Packers LB coach? I'd really like to see some one fiery and able to connect w/ the players. Greene does both.

After watching him during yesterdays game, that's the type of DC I'd like to see on staff.

He is not the LB Coach. He's the outside LB Coach, and works under Winston Moss who has charge of the LB's and is Caper's number 2.

And he's less experienced than I thought; only been on the staff for 2yrs.
Either way, I'd like to see someone significantly less passive than previous DC's

I got a pretty strong hunch Butler will be coming here ;)

I am of this mind as well. Seems like Whis is putting a bunch of eggs in the Butler basket for Butler not to be interested. I would guess that Whis has been able to send Butler a text asking "are you down" and Butler said yes.

I'd be mighty surprised if Butler comes here. Mighty surprised.

Happy if it happens, but still mighty surprised.
