If they pick up Taylor's option, then yes they still want him for at least another year. Otherwise, it's moot. He's not going to redo his contract again.
some fellas on nfln were speculating they may try and get a new starter on the first day of the new year then release or trade Taylor after they have a starter secured... but they mentioned the team seems to be prepared to pay him his fat bonus even if they end up trading him later...a poison pill as it were.
I think there biggest issue is they do not want to appear desperate when in fact they kinda are... but I agree with Solar... Taylor is the least of their worries on offense... if they had a top RB and a top WR they would be a serious team even with Taylor.

if they were to add Guice or Michel along with someone like washington with their two picks in the first... they might be surprised what they can do with Tyrod

That's a likely scenario because they have 3 days after the start of the new year to decide on Taylor's option. if they sign a QB the first day or two, exactly as you suggest, then they can decline the option. Can't see a team trade for him.

I'd probably break a rib laughing if the Bills moved on from Tyrod Taylor to give up a 1st and 2nd round pick for Nick Foles.

Why? Taylor has never played at a high level, Foles has had stretches where he has been very effective.

I will be very pissed if the cards go after Taylor.

It’s trading one inconsistent high ceiling guy for another. You never know which Nick Foles is going to show up, and I’d certainly take the surrounding cast of the Eagles to the Bills. Honestly, tell me that you’d have wanted Nick Foles on this team in week 17 of last season.

He had two great playoff performances and suddenly everyone wants to ignore the two putrid years he put up as a starter.

I wouldn’t laugh at any team that signed him as a free agent, assuming the contract was reasonable, but trading a first and second for him and THEN paying him? Laughter.

Really, everyone of these available QBs in free agency are completely overpriced because they are all still back ups till they can prove in an extended tenure they are more, removed from Cousins who still has not proven he can win (and just wait what he is going to get for being meh, and then what a really great QB is going to be getting, wow). If you think a team would part with a starting caliber QB who is still relatively young and a winner, you are on some funky illegal juice. We are looking for a guy who can be a solid bridge but probably are not going to fill in the canyon at the position... that solution is called the draft, if done right :)

I don't entirely agree about what's out there - mainly in terms of what's coming from the Vikings. They have a very challenging decision to make, and that might benefit another team. Bradford has all of the potential in the world if he can stay healthy. Keenum has possibly gotten to a point where he "gets it." Bridgewater could be a QB of the future for someone if he's truly recovered. All three of the guys could move forward and be some team's solution, but the Vikings can't keep all of them, even though I'm sure they'd like to. AJ McCarron has unknown potential too.

My thought about Tyrod is similar. If a team genuinely commits to an offense that highlights his talents and gives him a successful supporting cast, it wouldn't surprise me to see him really bloom.

wouldnt you be willing to give a fifth for him?? They can have those "Possible deals" worked out before the league years change..... you know..."pending this other deal" and all that..

a team would trade a low level pick just so they dont have to compete with other teams if he is a FA

Foles also had a pro bowl season as a starter... the determining factor in his success has always been his coach... he only truly sucked when with Jeff Fisher... he wasnt so good during the regular season last year... but then the staff sat down with him and adjusted the offense to fit his strengths...and he was great again.

what would be laughable is if anyone traded for a QB and then didnt do everything they could to make him successful...like the rams did when they traded for Foles, lol.

I certainly wasn't a believer in Foles, the guy who put up 27/2 TD/INT. But, as you say, Fisher did a real number on him. Even so, he played "some" good football even for the Rams. He's not a QB who will thrive in every situation and he obviously needs to be coached the right way but he has talent. I don't agree with those who knock him for having to have an offense tailored to his strengths. I think that is true of most QB's. But, I can also see why there is doubt as to Foles as a viable starter. Put him with a guy like Reid, who presumably nurtures his abilities and he can be a productive starter.

Speaking of doing everything you can to make a QB successful, not that anyone's really questioned Bradford's ability, but I think it speaks to his talent just how well he produced while saddled with Fisher and that pathetic receiving corps the Rams always had back then.

They do have McCoy so I don't think RB is a problem area for them. They may need a compliment to him but he has been a consistent durable RB his whole career.

I believe of the free agents available Bradford is the most talented. Other than Cousins he would be the only FA that I would want. I wouldn't mind Foles. Like you said he's had decent games with the Rams. I agree that he needs a offense tailored to his strengths. I would like to get either Cousins, Foles, or Bradford & then draft a QB.

Bills are being smart here. With a bird in hand, they can now play the draft with their trade capital

+1. They are going to want a first rounder for him. Radio heads were breaking it down, BUF doesn’t recoup that $6M if he’s traded so it makes no sense to pay $6M for a mid to late round pick. Again, teams are going to be reluctant to release QBs unless they have a replacement in the fold. Taylor publicly said he is not taking a pay cut so he has all the leverage.

Mathieu for tyrod taylor should be a reasonable trade

Draft day
2 options
A)we select Mayfield or Jackson
B) we go best player available and we trade up in the second for Lauletta

Lauletta looks like Jimmy Garappolo
Extremely accurate, good decision maker, good feet and just slightly above average arm strength

I would go with B. Don't want Jackson at QB. Too long of a project at QB. I would take Mayfield though.

When deciding to roll the dice on a Tyrod Taylor, the critical factor has to be how cool he remains under pressure and his whether he can keep his percentage of dumb decisions down to a winnable level.

And, oh yeah: Jetstream's "arm & a leg" reference might turn out to be literally true (i.e. the physicality of being a mobile QB might actually cost TT an arm and a leg).

One of the biggest plusses about Tyrod Taylor is that he doesn't turn the ball over. 51/18 TD/int ratio.

Which is directly related to a refusal to throw into tight windows. Fitz would be lucky to ever see the ball with this guy.

We are talking about a guy who was benched in favour of Nate Peterman in week 11 and not due to injury.

"On November 15, 2017, Peterman was named the Bills' starting quarterback for the team's Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Chargers after struggles from Taylor. During the game, Peterman threw five interceptions in the first half and was relieved by Taylor. Peterman's five interceptions tied an NFL record for the most thrown in a player's first career start."

They traded away Taylor's best WR and his second best WR got signed as a UFA by the Rams. He often had NO windows, let alone tight ones. And he still helped them reach the playoffs for the first time in ages.

Radio heads have been saying it will be hard to trade Matheiu because no one is going to want to play him $19M guaranteed after March 3rd. If BUF doesn't want to pay Tyrod $18M and are going to trade him rather than cut him, getting a good (not $19M good though) player of Mathieu's caliber rather than a draft pick even a first rounder that can end up busting if someone is actually willing to trade a #1 makes sense, especially if you get a motivated Mathieu willing to prove ARZ made a mistake dealing him.

Wow, i don't get this take on Taylor - he's extremely careful with the ball, known if anything for making very few dumb decisions but possibly not taking enough risks. And i believe he's only missed two games to injury in his career.

I think Taylor would be a great option which a guy like McCoy could work with. Taylor is a better passer than Tebow and we have freaking David Johnson :)
