Said he wants to leave the past behind and just move forward. Get back to football and the grind. He looks forward to not answering questions anymore about his off-field stuff, he is looking forward to focusing on football.

Mathieu giving him advice that he needs to leave some stuff behind to succeed in this league.

He said he clearly needed to repair his rep to dispel the notion that this is who he was.

He acknowledges that he realized the incident would dog him in the coming months.

He says he never received benefits from the school.

He feels he is ready to contribute. He has a great system around him that will put him in position to succeed. He just needs to put in the work.

RE: Inconsistency: He said he needed to be more mature and focused. He needs to grow up as a player. He thinks he will be a better pro.

He said he hasn't come to a conclusion on when to go panther shopping.

He sounded very relieved to have the draft process behind him. He sounds like he knows where is faults are and what he needs to improve. He handled tough questions for so long that he handled those pointed questions about his past with ease. Basically, he just wants to look forward and work on being a better pro than he was a college athlete.

OKafor was arrested last March for evading arrest. Then he gets injured during a playoff bye week. He belongs.

Mathieu is only a few years from significant substance abuse issues.

It is a fine line between managing people and giving them chances vs being the Bengals or Cowboys..

I was on the record day one as not a huge fan of drafting the badger where we did..

but lets not blow things too far out of proportion...part of the reason I was not a fan was because I lived in Baton Rouge his entire college career and after,...and I saw the honey badger on the news pretty frequently.

That being said... Tyrann did NOT in fact have "significant" substance abuse issues... he was just a pot head who was hanging out with the wrong crowd. Many guys from the hood sling a bit of weed on the side to make a few bucks...I did... Tyrann just needed to get away from the fools he grew up with and learn that surviving in the world is different than surviving in the hood.

it's not like he was huffing paint, or smoking crack,...shooting heroin, or eating pain pills all day. He smoked weed. Lots of it.

Paraphrasing...

Now he is on Bickley and Marotta:

Since his first visit, he connected with the coaches/staff/ownership. He felt embraced the way he felt he should have been. Other teams had prejudged him and he felt that. Meetings felt great. Tyrann came to dinner. He felt comfortable and not judged or scolded.

He said a lot of teams were turned off by his individuality. He is happy this organization accepts him.

He plays sax and bass. Prince is a role model of his. He has no idea where musical gifts came from. He and his BROTHER (uh-oh) are both gifted and like to play away from football.

He reads a lot of books. Various genres. Self-help. Sci-Fi. Fiction.

He feels fans are getting a great person and an amazing player. Will give it all on field, in locker room, and in the community. He is going to bring energy and effort and try to be the best version of himself possible.

Says his incident was understandably scrutinized because of the high-profile of the draft. Wants to look ahead.

He isn't bitter about going #29. He is happy to go to the right place. Money is not his main driver. He wanted to be in the right organization.

Describes college career as "good" but he left plays on the field. He could have been better. He needs to keep focused on growing as a player.

Mathieu and him interacted. He loves HB. Best highlight tapes. HB gave advice about not caring what people say (especially media). Media is there to tear you down. HB said the want dogs (dawgs?) with no egos on the Cards, which he appreciated hearing that. Egos are bad.

Tunsil had a rough night. They texted. He was heartbroken for him friend. He said he is one of the most positive people in the world, it wasn't fair someone to do that. Someone plotted that. It was evil. Diminished the happiest moment of his life. He knows he will make the most of his opportunity. Miami is gonna love that dude. He is here for Tunsil and his family if they need support.

In fact, he needs to change his own Instagram account password.

First impression of PHX: It is amazing. It is beautiful. He loves it.

Can't wait to get going.

I have a very good feeling about him---I can see what the Cardinals see in him. Very likable...he's soulful...and I don't think he has made one single excuse when answering the tough questions. I wouldn't have blamed him if he mentioned being double and triple teamed right out of the tunnel in most games. But, I think it says a lot about his character that he instead kept saying he needs to mature and evolve as a person and a player.

Thank you so much for sharing this, crisper! He's made a fan out of me already. All eyes forward. No looking back or making excuses.

Yeah, and that is what Nkemdiche and Tunsil have done as well. It is what it is, weed use by a player in his doesn't bother me. But, as long as he is getting tested he needs to stay clean or he can hurt the team.

Twenty years from now fans will look back at marijuana and the NFL and wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place.

How about now? Frankly its ridiculous the NFL is still living in a world that no longer exists.

Did you guys watch the draft? How many guys were there without character issues? Like, a handful at best.

It's funny that the national media was all gushing over the Cardinals having the best Management and locker room in the NFL, and if anyone can help this kid its us. Everyone believes it except for certain Cardinals fans who still seem to have no faith in this organization.

The reality of the draft is, a huge segment of these guys have issues. If it's not drugs it's alcohol if it's not that it's bad friends, if it's not that its injuries.

This guy has the benefit of TM who is not just talking the talk, he can actually show him this is how you overcome, this is how you be successful in the NFL. And this is a situation where we can actually use Darrell Washington to our advantage. This kid need only look at two of his teammates.

Do what Dwash did and your career is over and you're forgotten.

Do what TM did and you will be successful and all good things will come to you.

I'm glad for this kid that he came to us, and unlike other fans who are rooting for him to be a bust so they can be right and come back in 3 years and say HAHAHA I WAS RIGHT, I'm not going to root for this kid to fail. I'm going to believe in our organization and our players that we can help him be successful. He might still fail, but he is worth the risk.

Very interesting:

http://arizonasports.com/story/6450...mdiche-to-cardinals-how-can-you-not-grab-him/

“It’s all based on an individual situation and the time that we spent, whether it’s Bruce Arians, Brentson Buckner, Calais Campbell, even, again, Tyrann Mathieu spent time with Robert and, more importantly, Michael Bidwill.”

Keim pointed out how, as a former federal prosecutor, Bidwill has a good instinct for reading people. There have been times where the GM liked what a player had to say during an interview at the Combine, but the team president would shake his head and explain that the player was performing instead of being honest.

“He has a great feel for it and when we got his stamp of approval, it certainly sealed the deal for me,” he said.

If I get in an accident with my company vehicle guess what the first thing that happens. If I start a new job guess what happens. If I get get hurt on the job guess what happens. You may have guessed drug test. If you work for someone you play by their rules it's the world that exists and will always exit, don't like it don't have to work for the company in this case the NFL.

I love the number of people on here who talk about never taking risks in the first round. Name me the player who was available at that spot who is guaranteed to be a star? Just because some idiot on ESPN says the guy "runs sideline to sideline" we should take him? Every player drafted at every position inn every round is a risk. This is a brutal business that only has one goal and we are about as close to it as we have ever been. They would take D. Wash back if they thought it would push them over the goal line. If this pans out, and it might not, the idea of Jones off the edge and Dionne and him up the middle has to send chills down the spines of some of the OC's out there that we will have to play.

They live in a world where marijuana is illegal under federal statutes and in all but a few states. When that changes, they'll change.

I see risks but I think it can be a high reward pick. I think the D was quite awful elsewere and he got doubled and tripled a lot, but we will see what he is worth in 2-3 years

it's so amazing the turnaround Michael and BASK have accomplished with a team that was universally the biggest joke in football.

I said it before and I will post it again. If the Pats had their pick at 29 and took him, we would lament how the rich get richer. We'd say he was in the perfect situation and perfect organization. And I have no doubt this would have been the Pat's' pick.

Instead the national media is saying that about us.

Cards are looking like the biggest beneficiaries of Deflategate, huh? No Brady. Steal their pick.

Boom!

Let's not forget also that part of why we ended up with Chandler Jones is because they wanted another higher round pick after losing their first rounder to deflategate.

And, until it changes they have to stay clean or they screw the team. but, it's trivial BS compared to the legitimate thug crap that is happening in the league on a routine basis. Where other human beings actually got hurt.

Plenty of already-legal supplements banned by pro leagues. I doubt marijuana ever is accepted.
