If they can keep Veldheer at $6.5mm, then he’s your starter and Smith is your backup / insurance policy who can play both T and G at $4mm. Then if Hump gets injured you can swing the Hulk to LT and Smith is your RT. I think it’s wise to keep both.
I agree. Humphries hasn't shown he can stay healthy yet and Veldheer is a much better tackle than Smith. Unless we spend our first round pick on McGlinchey I would keep Veldheer.

Pugh played poorly at RT, that's why he was moved to guard. He's an ordinary player, often injured. NY, with a lousy OL, had no interest in retaining him and nobody has swooped in after 4 days to grab him. I have no interest in the Cards signing him, especially to the kind of contract he's going to want.
Pugh has ALWAYS been a guard. He only played RT due to injuries on the O-line. He wasn't even a terrible RT when he played there. Absolutely neutralized Von Miller. Injuries are a concern but he is a top 12 guard when healthy.

We can't fill 100% of our roster holes. Something's got to give.

OL is looking better, but at WR, we're down to Fitz and JJ. We need at least two more - including one guy 6-4 220 or bigger who can run in the 4.5's or faster.

I have a feeling few fans will like this offense, but I sure will.
I have very high hopes if we run a 50/50 run pass offense I'll love it if we push it more towards 60/40 run pass I'll be even happier. I think teams that physically set the tone usually are the teams other teams hate playing.

The nfl actually is more a passing game with the new rule
Splitting the plays like that and we dont go anywhere

draft.
Simmie Cobbs... third round.

I still think we need to draft a center and two WR this year.

bright side is, there are still dozens of FA guys we can get for vet minimum that wont count against the cap

I get that but it's more about setting the tone. BA ran a finesse offense IMO. A bigger comment to running the ball and using play action instead of just sitting in shot gun throwing the ball 40 to 50 times a game really helps your offensive line play and keeps your QB on the field JMO.

I'm kind of looking forward to a more ball control offense. The line also loves to play that way.

Love this signing and believe Pugh can turn out to be the best FA signing of Keim’s career.
Pugh played with Chandler Jones at Syracuse and was selected #19 overall by the Giants in 2013.
He beat out stud David Diehl at right tackle his rookie season, and went on to make the all-rookie team that year.
The Giants then moved him to left guard in 2015 where he was ranked the 9th best guard in the NFL that season, his first season playing guard in the NFL!
Thru the first 9 games of 2016, Pugh was ranked the #1 Left Guard in the entire NFL. Only to miss the remainder of the season with a sprained MCL.
And then started the first 8 games last season before going on IR with the muscle problem in his back..
He’s only 27 years old.
Nice move here by Keim! [emoji106]
