China almost stunned Spain, if not for Yi Jianlian's defensive lapses in the fourth.

sorry, don't care who they are, once they put on the Red White and Blue thats who I'm rooting for.

Don't like Kobe, but he's on my team this time and I'll be cheering him on too, every game.

Agreed. They represent our country. I might not like certain players on an individual basis but it's how the team does that I care about.

Also, it appears that D-Wade is healthy again. He has looked really good.

Go Greece!

With dantoni as an assistant, im not expecting them to have made ANY improvements on defending the pnr. Hopefully they get smashed again by the Greeks :)

Your welcome to move there. I am sure that country has basketball stars without egos and that only care about the common good of mankind.;)

I never said anything about the lifestyles of any of the competing nations. Strictly basketball fanaticism ;)

I suppose the fact that MacMillian is the defense coach is irrelevant? :sarcasm:

Anywho...back on topic. So anybody else surprised the so far D-Wade seems to be leading this team. I think everyone expected Kobe to come out and be the man or Lebron.

Wade is playing fantastic. They play strong and disruptive defense this way throughout, I don't think any team has a chance to beat them.

They dismantled Greece with defense. Wade had another good game. Kobe and Bosh played really well. This team appears to be on a mission.

funny, as much as I too am rooting for Phelps to cash in on all 8 golds. He is "expected" to win most if not all those races.
He expects this to happen himself as well as from the press.
He is the favorite hands down.

So why root for him?

Other USA favorites-

USA softball team
Beach volleyball - May & Walsh

Why are these teams ok too root for but not USA BB?

It's a pretty understandable attitude when the NBA has become unlovable for so many, not only in the rest of the world but here as well. The Olympic games are all about sports. USA swimmers, softball and beach volleyball teams haven't yet dropped to that level where we get into discussions about whether the competition falls into the category of sports or entertainment. Most of the NBA news worthy of international attention over the past few years has been negative--some of it beyond negative to the point of being disgusting. It wouldn't be surprising if the poster's attitude is shared by a good many others, even in this country, and it goes beyond 'rooting for the underdogs.'

Because they're not prissy drama queens who think they're underpaid at $20 mil/yr.

I understand all the above comments about this including this quote Shzm,
But it sounds like a gripe against ALL pro sports not just USA BB.

I agree $20 mil is just sick, but should it just go back to the owners or the guys who put the butts in the seats?

Enough already. I think we get the down with USA basketball message from you. Please don't hijack this thread anymore with that crap. This is discuss the results of the game and look at the schedule.
