Leanard, Leanard , Leanard...... After 5 years to have a 6' 6" 370 lbs, number two pick being recognized as "on the rise" is pathetic. With 20 lineman mentioned before you where is the pride Leanard? And I don't buy the "poor Leanard he was moved from Guard" crap. He should have been top 5 in either position for that kind of coin and given his physical gifts. Hope DG had gotten him off his arse the way a $200,000 workout bonus apparantly has never been able to.

We don't have a "Leanard", let alone three - on the roster... :D

What you consider "pathetic" or "buy" is rather beside the point. The fact remains that LEONARD DAVIS has just completed his FIRST full season at tackle at the pro level. Considering all of the adjustments, he could hardly be expected to be in the elite category in so short a time. His weight, as you noted - is down to 370, which would seem to indicate that he's taking the job seriously.

Let's see what people - in the know - have to say about him, after the upcoming season.

Maybe he's just tired of people spelling his name incorrectly...

This post is dead on, plus Big has had awful coaching around him his whole pro career.

Big started struggled at the begining of the year, which was expected since it was the first time on the left side in 4 years. By mid-season he was comfortable at LT and I think he looked VERY good until he was injured. IMO he was better than Pace who looked terrible (conpared to his usual standard) in several games this season.

I expect Big to come out and play at pro-bowl level this season.

First of all the "Lean"ard was meant facetiously and secondly I can't believe you apologists. Why is does this high draft pick underachiever continue to avoid scrutiny? Look at some of the names that appear above his in this article. It is well documented that until this year he didn’t come close to a team sanctioned off-season training program and he continues to rely on natural ability and strength. I have no doubt that this man coul be a top 5 OL.

I dont care where you play him, he was drafted too high. If he doesnt do something with those feet he is gonna get beat easily by smaller, quicker, DT's/DE's

His footwork at times last year was just awful!

As I wrote he and his footwork got a lot better through the season. He had a strech of 6 games without giving up a sack (Gets mentioned in one of the games, but can't remember which one).

Was he drafted too high? Probably. But IMO we wouldn't even have this thread if he was drafted in the mid 1st. It would wrong to say that he has lived up to his #2 overall draft status - true, BUT it's just as wrong to call him a terrible player.

BTW the alternatives to him at #2 were Justin Smith and Gerald Warren... We still got the best of that trio.

Or we could have traded with San Deigo for the #1 pick and drafted Michael Vick.

If you'll recall Atlanta gave away a lot to give that pick, so nothing short of 3 first-rounders would make them give away that pick. Oh plus the people of Atlanta would have burned down the city.

Leonard Davis, Wendell Bryant, Bryant Johnson and Calvin Pace for Vick.

Hindsight is great isn't it.

Worth noting that Pete Kendall was rated at #12 and was more highly rated than any of our lineman. Getting rid of Pete was a bad deal then and a bad deal now. In the paper they had Leonard Smith rated at #14.

Get over it John. Green got rid of Kendall because of the locker room issue. Kendall wasn't going to play nice with Green. And yes, Kendall was the best lineman that we had.

Actually Big is rated higher then Kendall.

Kendall is ranked 12th in the gaurd group yes but overall ratings has Big with a score of 86 and Kendall a score of 84.8.

I'm so tired of the Kendall argument. He needed to be dealt with, as far as DG is concerned and was dealt with as DG saw fit.

Wrong !!!

Getting rid of a "club house" lawyer is the best investment in the future of any new head coach.

good point, but i'm not sold on vick. great runner, below-par passer. excellent arm strrength, but accuracy sucks. plus, he has a career 76.9 passer rating.

we'd be stuck with a MONSTER contact, and no idea whether the guy will ever develop into a great qb.

It could be worse he could of been a Wendall Bryant

But I do agree he has been an under achiever. He lacks the nasy/mean streak the best Olinemen have. But he is still pretty good.

Christ... If you want to have this conversation, start a new thread so that you can be proven wrong and not hijack this one.

Michael Vick has a .667 winning percentage as a starter and has lead his team to the playoffs in every season where he starts more than 8 games. He was the first QB to beat the Packers at Lambeau Field in the playoffs, and lead a mediocre team to the NFC Championship game last season. All he does is win games. The Falcons used to be a bigger laughingstock than the Cardinals.

Used to be.

Mr Davis should have stayed at the guard position where he could have dominated like Larry Allen did in his heyday
But woulda shoulda coulda.
This will be Mr Davis hingepiont season at his new position.
And I believe that he will more than prove his worth there, although it may be another year or two until he sees a pro Bowl berth.

Give em Hell Leonard!!!

Does anybody have the Falcons' record with Vick playing compared to while he was out hurt? Those stats should tell you how much of an impact he has on his team.

That basically says it all, doesn't it? I'd wager that, had the Cards drafted Michael Vick back in the day, they would have been to the playoffs at least twice and Dave McGinnis would still have his job. Oh, and Sun Devil Stadium would have been sold out three years running.

He's that good.
