You’re assuming that Crow cares about athletics enough to be upset about what’s going on
That's a pretty fair point.
It's short sided at such a large institution where athletics can be a big pull
My university is decent sized for a private school. We haven't had football since the 70s. Going back 20 years ago many sports were converted to club level.
Basketball would occasionally flare up and have a decent year. Popular sport in campus and a popular sport in the city with a number of solid and better programs
A lot of focus on capital projects - not just expanding/improving campus buildings, but also hotel development, general redevelopment off campus, etc.
They did make some upgrades to the fields used for things like soccer and lacrosse a little off campus, but not anything nice.
There was a lot of talk about improving the basketball facilities. The gym is in the general physical education and facilities building - pull out bleachers and everything. Curtains separating that court from the side rec courts.
Some plans were really nice.
Ultimately, the university invested in squash and squash facilities and will host major squash tournaments, etc
The president just doesn't seem to really care that much.
Miami had something similar under Shalala. She thought the football program overshadowed what she was trying to present for academics and any support to athletics was almost begrudging.
