One extra good thing about re-signing Warner..... no more Culpepper rumors

Well, go read profootballtalk.com and see how long the "no Culpepper rumors" deal lasted.

Kurts Cap Number?

Anyone have any idea what his cap number is for the upcoming season?
Is any of the 7 million in the form of a bonus that can be spread out for
cap purposes?

We wont know until the beginning of next week, at that time NFLPA will have approved the deal and details of it can be found after that.

Are you sure? I thought it came out of just general revenue?

If that's not the case then I take back some of comments from my above post.

The league's 32 teams share the television and radio money, revenue from national sponsorships and a portion of all ticket sales. Teams get to keep their parking and concession revenue and money from sales of luxury suites and stadium naming rights.
Under revenue sharing, each team got $87.5 million from TV revenue during 2005. Since the league's salary cap for 2005 was $85.5 million, the 32 owners almost have a built-in profit.
"The way the NFL is set up, an owner really has to work at it to lose money," Gene Upshaw, executive director of the NFL Players Association, said recently in an interview

So, that being stated...there is no reason to leave a lot of cap money on the table.

But just becuase it says a team spent lets say 80 Mill against the cap it doesnt represent what they payed players for that year. The cap pushes money to future years but owners hand out signing bonus checks all at one time. The cap is not a true representation of what owners are really paying for players each year.

There are 2 distinct terms to keep in mind, one is the "cap" that spreads bonuses out over the years, then their is team "payroll" which is the true amount that an owners spends on players in a given year.

Not only that, but most people forget to take into account the payroll of the coaching staff, office staff, stadium staff, front office staff, travel expenses, uniforms, advertising, printing, repayment of debt, etc, etc, etc. All of that is not included in the salary cap amount. So if a team says pays $80 million in salary, and brought in $87.5 in shared revenue, there is another outlay of at least the $7.5 million remaining in the shard revenue in the other expenses.
