i agree with Urban on this. Leinart will be the starter, they will sign a veteran backup and draft a qb on the later rounds to develop. I'm not sure if they will resign Brian St. Pierre. He is an unrestricted free agent and has major back problems that may need surgery. Too much risk there in my opinion. As i said in one of my earlier posts I like Chris Redman (Falcons) as a quality backup and he is an UFA.

I heard BSP is going to either miss a significant portion of 2010 or the entire season. He has a couple of herniated disk.

St. Pierre, a career back up who will be 31 this year already with back issues, probably won't be re-signed

I think you and I are in agreement on this. I'm not sure any team will sign him with his physical problems. Maybe we give him a tryout in 2011.

In this game it's often hard to be right.
Which is why it seems silly to be attributing thoughts and future actions to someone you don't personally know with such certainty.

We all have opinions, but I think the reason some people seem to be lightning rods for "controversy" at ASFN is because they don't express their opinions as such; they express them as fact.

Too bad he had back issues, because we will never know what he could have done otherwise.

I will take the hit. I believed in BSP. In fact I was sure he would outplay Leinart. He didn't. Mea culpa.

What I find curious, though, is when you look over at Whiz's sideline huddles, it's Warner, Whiz and BSP working everything out.

And, for the record:

TD Passes in 2009:

Warner: 26

St. Pierre: 1

Leinart: 0
.

I cant believe you type this as what doesnt appear to be a joke.. You cant seriously believe this stat is some kind of bench mark, can you? If you were dead on serious about it.. Well.. then... I will pray for your tortured soul..

Where did this come from? I think people who aren't jumping off buildings at the thought of Leinart under center think he's going to be good enough to win surrounded by a superior offense. Does that mean he's going to be a top-15 QB? Who knows. Maybe. Maybe not.

I agree with Pariah.

It will be sad to see Warner announce his retirement. No one holds a press conference to announce they are not retiring ... well, except Farve.

I think a lot remains to be seen with Leinart. His style of play is different than Warner's. I believe he can still be successful in an offense that is designed to highlight his upside.

Oh, and can we please stop talking about McNabb already? He is staying in Philly and not coming here (except for golf on the offseason).

I would think Warner wouldnt retire until after the superbowl. So my first thought was if he had an announcement before the bowl it woul dbe he is staying.

That and whats the purpose of holding a press conference for coming back. To me you hold a press conference when you retire and you just announce you're coming back if that's what you're doing. What questions to ask about him coming back worther of a full press conference?

If he has reached a decision then get on with it and let everyone know. He is also helping the organization so they know how to plan for the draft and or free agency. A guy like Warner is the type that would do right by the organization. To drag this on past the draft would be terrible for all concerned. He got to see Brett get his head handed to him last Sunday and probably does not want to go out like that. He did his job here as best he could and better than anyone ever thought he would. How are we as fans going to adjust? Not very well I fear. We are going to compare who ever our new QB is to Kurt and that puts the new guy in a hole to start with.

Watching Peyton Manning this last week convinces me he is the best QB I have ever seen. He is the OC. With the no huddle and those guys having played together for a while he is near unstoppable. It is amazing to watch him operateand change the plays multiple times at the line. To fast for the defense to keep up with him. He is a joy to watch.

Except for the fact Warner will be in Miami next week to talk on media row all week.. I doubt he wants to answer the question of retirement all week.. So the Friday press conference makes even more sense that he will retire..

If Kurt is retiring, I hope he doesn't have second thoughts later on. Even with all the money he's made over his career, $11.5 million would be tough to walk away from.

What's actually more impressive is that those guys he's throwing to have not been playing together for a while.

It doesn't really matter who the receivers are. Peyton will make them better. He is a master at decryptng the coverage and capitalizing on the opponents' weaknesses.

In the game on Sunday, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark were largely unnoticed. It was the kids, Collie and Garcon who had most of the catches. That's all on Manning. No Marvin Harrison, no problem...

I respect Warner on whatever he decides to do, but my gut feeling is telling me he is going to call it quits tomorrow I hope i'm really very wrong and he comes back to finish his final year on his contract. But if he doesn't he has been a hall of fame type qb for us and I have some faith in Leinart if he can't get it done with this group of receivers then Leinart will never be a nfl qb imo.

We'll all know soon enough but why announce that you're going to announce something? Play or retire I just don't understand the need to wait 3 days to do it if the answer is already known. If you can announce that you're going to have a press conference in 3 days why keep everyone in suspense?

I hate to break it to Warner but no one's going to really care about his future plans if they aren't playing football. Don't get me wrong, I hope he continues to do great things, donate money, help people in need, etc. but I have no interest in a press conference that outlines those plans.

As soon as "I'm retiring" comes out of his mouth, that's all I need to hear. I really hope he stays but either way, I'm kind of annoyed at the intentional drama. I didn't care how long it took him to come to a decision but once he did, I thought he would spit it out and move on.

There's no reason he couldn't have said I'm returning/I'm retiring, there will be a press conference on Friday to discuss it.

Since fans aren't going to be allowed to attend the press conference...I don't know. It certainly feels like he's going to retire but he's such an attention hound, I can't see him walking away without a farewell tour.

If I'm not mistaken the reason for the advance announcement, which was officially announced by the Cardinal's on Thursday is because Warner was out of the country until Thursday.

My very own, personal barometer called me last night. My 11 year old nephew who lives in Southern California. He loves Matt Leinart. He and his best buddy are easily Matt's biggest eleven-year-old fans.

But he called and wanted to know if Kurt was going to retire. We talked about how if Kurt retired it looks like Matt would be our #1 QB.

He didn't want to hear it. He just wants to see Kurt play one more year.

It still strikes me as a bit odd that he called a press conference but we don't know what he's going to say (conclusively). Obviously it seems less likely that someone would call a PC to announce that they're going to play out their contract, but usually we head "so-and-so will announce his retirement on Friday," or at least "so-and-so is expected to announce his retirement on Friday."

I don't know. Maybe he wanted to play it safe in case he changed his mind.

I don't even really understand the need for the press conference. If the information that a press conference can be relayed over the phone then why can't the "announcement" itself?

This is just one last need for media attention. I would have liked a better ending to his career than this. If it's time to walk away, just walk away. Leaving everyone twisting in the wind like that was very Favre-like.
