Perhaps I'm a little old school or old fashioned, but I believe our actual flag (not flag shirts) is very symbolic of our country as a whole, and to deface that is to symbolically deface our country (though I wouldn't endorse burning flag shirts, though they aren't 'the flag').

No, I don't believe he meant harm by it, but his very presumption and the fact he had to do something so gross to draw attention to himself is arrogant, immature, and a whole lot of strong words I'd get banned for using. It says, 'look at me, look at me!!!', not, 'I'm a patriot.'

Yes, the government burns hundreds of flags daily. No, that's not offensive. It isn't disrespect, and it is done properly. It is the proper way to dispose of a flag. You know, as in the tradition that if our flag touches the ground, it should be burned (though it's not always followed and I'm not THAT harsh of a stickler).

Are you a proponent of defacing the flag? I am not. I find it gross and inexcusable, and I will not personally abide it.

I just dont see how a piece of cloth can be seen as anything more than a symbol. I think it is the actions one takes and not the actual physical burning that has to be looked at. Burning a flag is like burning a piece of paper. Soldiers dont die for flags, democracy isnt contingent upon the flag. It is a symbol not unlike symbols religious zealots use in their teachings. Are you against anyone wearing those as well?

If you think people are disrespectful for wearing the flag, then essentially you are saying it is their thoughts you disagree with and that is fine, and I understand your position, but I dont agree with it. To me he was celebrating being an american when he wore that flag. It is the biggest sporting event in the United states and to me, he was being a partiot, not disrespectful!

I dont know anyone who is in favor of defacing the flag. I am not for laws being passed to make it illegal. How can you legislate someones thinking?

7, 000 soldiers in 132 degree weather in a un-air conditioned hanger at Baghdad International Airport. I think he was wearing that flag with more pride than a lot of Americans do.

Oh my god! Thank you so much for saying this, you beat me to it. Kid Rock is extremely patriotic, the anti-Susan Sarandon. That guy has done more free shows for us servicemen than any entertainer I know of (in my time anyway).

His show at the Baghdad Airport was an amazing display of how much he cares. It was un-godly hot in there, sweat was rolling of him, and he stayed and talked to the troops, shook hands, posed for pictures etc. I love the guy. That wasn't the first time he's done that sort of thing either. The flag wearing thing didn't bother me in the least, if anything I thought it was a display of his patriotism.

And actually, to all those who mentioned his efforts for the troops...I didn't know that. The only thing I knew about Kid Rock was that he looks (and to me, on TV, acts) like trailer park trash and I don't like his music. Then, last night, he defaces the American flag. That's all I knew.

I give him huge props for doing that for the troops. It was huge to us when the Gin Blossoms came over to Bosnia for a concert back in the day. Those guys were great. I'll give him a for all of that, and not judge him harshly for his public persona.

Still, that doesn't give him a pass for the idiocy he showed last night.

Well, then we disagree. I find desecration of the flag to be wrong, but you don't. No problems. You don't honestly feel it's wrong, so you can't be held at fault for that.

But at the same time I guess I was supporting his intentions (not his actions if you can separate the two). My brother is home on 2 weeks leave and showed us some videos he made from over there - one was from the show kid rock put on that he was taping for some buddies that couldn't be there for it. I wasn't really a fan before - I have a new found appreciation for him....and believe that there was no intention to be disrespectful in his choice of showing support during half time. So I just had to throw that in there.

I TRULY believe if Kid Rock ever saw someone burning an american flag, he'd beat the hell out of them. (Well, he's kinda scrawny, but he'd give it a try).

It's really funny that this conversation has come up because three days ago I was listening to his song "Lonely Road of Faith" with my son (which was the song my son listened to while I was gone to remember me by). I was explaining to my wife how much Kid Rock has done for the U.S.O. , believe me he has gone way above and beyond what most entertainers would. She didn't know any of this because she listens to Celine Dion crap. I even went so far as to say I would punch anyone in the mouth that I heard say one bad thing about Kid Rock.
