Lol. I went into this season telling myself to not have expectations & to actually be happy if we lose close games. I’m actually very happy with the direction of this team under JG, but I can’t lie, I was miserable after the game. I grew up in NYS, and have ALWAYS hated losing to the Giants. Too many friends back home that still like to rub it in.

My criticism of Monti getting Dobbs certainly looks more foolish after last game. He has the potential to be a pretty solid backup for Kyler. We shall see.

Overall I have been impressed with Monti and Gannon. The draft day trades and picks seem to be pretty solid so far. The pre-season trades made me scratch my head a bit, just think I would have hung on with Jones and Simmons and at least trade them for more value. Also didnt understand cutting Rashad Lawrence, while often injured, when he played he was a difference maker. With all the injuries on D line, he would have been helpful on Sunday.

im pretty sure we will trade back with 1 or 2 of our first round picks in the 2024 draft, so that draft and FA pickups well set the tone for this team.

We all know the saying that looks can be deceiving. So, if I were playing Name My Job, these would be my guesses.
1. Steve Keim- Something to do with FB.
2. Monti Ossenfort- A HS Principal. And you don't want to be sent to Mr. Ossenfort's office.
3. Drew Petzing- One of Mr. O's teachers.
4. Nick Rallis- If you see him in his hoodie, just hope he's not anywhere near your car in a parking lot. If so, say goodbye to your hub caps.
5. Jonathan Gannon- A Navy Submarine Commander. Run silent , run deep.

Just my way of getting over a tough loss.

Ouchie, I know very little about cars, but do remember (in the past) often reading about hub caps being stolen. I live in a 155 unit apartment building on a street with about 3K units. And back in 2020 I discovered my car sitting on blocks with four wheels and tires missing, so maybe I do know something about cars.

Very few cars hubcaps and if they do a few are already missing and the remaining ones have zero value on the black market is the point of ouchie’s statement…

I guess what I do know about cars, is that they get stolen. Because the same car that lost its wheels was stolen about a year later. Feb., 2021.

The biggest plus so far has been the coaches. They were bold choices being so young, especially as a group. Nonetheless so far they motivated, trained and designed major elements of this team. With a little luck this should be a solid group for a few years. Due to age they’re less likely to be grabbed up by other teams.

For me, he's the first GM hire from outside the organization I've seen as a fan of this team, so I'll feel a little more optimistic about the possibilities, the potential culture changes and improvements, until I have reason to be pessimistic again.

The A grades went to AZ and Chicago for future draft picks even tho it takes 3 years to evaluate some draft picks. It was as if he was asked to do a tank. When the Cards were up 21-0; I knew they would eventually lose that game. I don't agree with it but that is what the flavor of the month, just like getting Kliff Kingsbury was his answer to our Sean McV. He still has to make the right picks and have them work well as good picks and not bust out.

Anything that goes from rubber to rubber is a wheel cover. Most common these days on entry level cars that were bought without the alloy wheel upgrade....and they still carry a fine selection at Pep Boys...as long as you don't mind plastic.

I posted the quotes below back in June and I still believe it is what we are seeing today. Monti appears to be following the Belichick model. So far I like what I'm seeing. The Cards have been more competitive than I expected them to be at this point and I think a lot of that falls on the relationship between Monti and JG. They clearly had a vision of what they wanted this team to look like and turned over the majority of the roster on their way to building on that vision.

What I'm most excited about right now is the culture change. It's way ahead of where I expected it to be at this point. I absolutely love the gritty physicality that this team has brought each week so far. I love how this team is playing like a team and there a no me first premadonnas on this team. This team still is lacking talent from a depth standpoint. That lack of depth will eventually start to catch up to them this season as injuries start to stack up. However this coaching staff has already proven that they can do more with less. Where as the previous regime did less with more, if that is even a saying.

I still don't believe that they will win more than 3 games this season. However I think they will be competitive in the majority of them. What I'm most interested in seeing in the coming weeks is how Kyler fits into this new team.

I think what we are seeing is Monti following in the Belichick model of building a team.

#1: Quick turnover of the roster from the previous regime. By year two of Belichick taking over the Patriots, only 4 starters remained from the previous regime {C Damien Woody (Selected in the 1st round the season before Belichick arrived), MLB Tedy Bruschi, CB Ty Law and DE Willie McGinest}. Belichick wasted no time letting LB Andy Katzenmoyer (the other 1st rounder selected with Woody in 1999) go after just one season with Belichick and only two seasons on the Patriots. Belichick's first year was all about installing a culture and if you weren't all in you were out!

I think we are seeing a lot of this right now with the Cardinals. I expect the 2024 Cardinals starters to have only a handful of starters left from the previous regime (Kyler, Hump, McBride, Baker, Thompson, Collins). It also appears that Monti isn't afraid of letting former 1st round LB Simmons go if he doesn't live up to expectations.

#2: Belichick built the core of his team through the draft and seemingly every year he would hit at least one home run. In Belichick's first year he had 20 rookies on the roster at training camp. It all started by selecting future HOF Tom Brady in the 6th round of his first draft. Belichick followed that up with selecting HOF Richard Seymour in 2001.

Monti is clearly rebuilding the core through the draft. Too early to tell how well he will hit on his draft picks.

#3: Moving on from overpriced players. Belichick was shrewd when it came time for players who were FAs looking for a new big contract. Once your value no longer matched your salary it was time to say goodbye.

Zach Allen, DHop, Chosen Anderson, all were let go because their value no longer fit with the salary that they earned, wanted or got on the open market. Ertz and Conner will soon join them at the end of this season.

#4: Willing to spend when a FA fits. Gilmore comes to mind as does Randy Moss and Devin McCourty. However the one year that comes to mind where Belichick made a big splash was in 2001 which was year two for him in NE. With that FA class Belichick landed the amazing haul of: LB Mike Vrabel, CB Terrell Buckley, G Mike Compton, LB Bryan Cox, LB Roman Phifer, QB Damon Huard, LB Larry Izzo, WR David Patten, FB Marc Edwards, DE Anthony Pleasant, and RB Antowain Smith.

Much like when Belichick made Devin McCourty the highest paid safety in the league I could see Monti doing something similar with Baker here shortly. Also I expect 2024 to be a big year for the Cardinals signing FAs. From there on Monti will probably target 1 or 2 FAs a year that fit what he is looking for.



Belichick only had 5 wins in his first season but was able to completely rebuild his roster in 2 seasons and win the SB that second year. He landed a future HOF in both of his first two drafts. He usually hit at least one home run in each draft there on. He wasn't afraid to move on from key players. He shrewdly evolved his teams roster year after year.

Will Monti have the same success? The odds are against it. However I do see the similarities in his style to what Belichick did early on. Now we have to wait and see if all works out for him. As a Cardinals fan I'm hoping that it does.

I'm just pointing out what it appears is happening.

Belichick inherited an aging team that was over the cap. That first year with the patriots was brutal as he got rid of the aging vets and cut the roster down to the bone. The 2000 Patriots were a god awful team with very little talent on it. It was a painful year for the team and the fans. However that first year was all about culture change. Making sure that everyone was all in and if you weren't you were out. He eliminated all entitlement.

That's what the Cardinals are doing this year. It's all about culture change. That's why they were willing to just let DHop go for nothing. They knew that having a "Me-First" type of guy around would kill any chance that they had at changing the culture. Next they singled out the players who embody the culture that they are trying to build. That is why I believe that Baker will ultimately get a new contract here shortly. He is everything that you want to build your culture around. 2023 will be a hard year for the Cardinals and Fans but it part of the process of fixing this team.

Interesting you feel this way. I was skeptical before the season but we should be 2-1 at worst. When Murray gets back, we *should* be better.

You don't think we will win 3 of our next 14? I think it would be a big disappointment if we only won 2 games the rest of the season.
