It kind of threw me that this guy came in from the Browns. Finally figured out this was the guy I saw play on a Monday or Thursday night game last year for the Titans. I was impressed with his arm and his mobility. He made some mistakes, but was thinking, Cards need to get this guy. Glad he made it, just wish we would have picked him up earlier in the offseason, hope he can still contribute while Kyler is out.

Don’t know, could start. Could be better than colt or Tune. If he is the best QB , roll with the punches. Like we have a a better choice. Hell we sent out our punter Tom Tupa at SDS, ain’t scared of fan adversity.
It’s not like I think that Dobbs is a legit starting NFL QB. But, I do think that he’s a decent backup. I think he can run Pelzing’s offense better than McCoy, because McCoy’s arm strength is pathetic at this stage in his career & his mobility is questionable too. Tune has far more positives than negatives, but his footwork is still being developed and defenses like Washington, New York, and Dallas would expose that. With more work, I do like Tune’s pocket presence, mobility, and lively arm. We obviously need a bridge to Murray & I think Dobbs best fits that mold right now.

Agree. But, they will keep him around just in case they can’t get Dobbs ready to start in the next 2 weeks. They are not going to throw Tune to the wolves unless they absolutely, positively have to.
Can be the only valid reason, I don't buy the mentor thing, if a player is good doesn't need any mentor

The best businessmen (Presidents, CEOs, etc) still have mentors and coaches.... even though they may also be mentors to someone else.
I know you think this but it is not my experience. I have known 3 new CEOs of a billion dollar+ corporation. Each time the company announced that the outgoing CEO was being retained for one year to mentor the incoming CEO. Each time the new CEO jettisoned the outgoing CEO within the first day. The new CEO has maybe advisors but not mentors. Mentoring happens before one arrives not after.

Which brings me to the McCoy/Murray thing. After 4 years in the league why would Murray need this mentoring relationship with McCoy?

Yeah, if I were in a high position, I would hire people smarter than me. I want good advice.

Bump - did anyone watch the Vikings game and think that Dobbs will be a big upgrade over Tune/Blough? It would be one thing if they were falling all over themselves, but both again showed well.

Easily defended by players and coaches who want to win and unlike posters couldn't give a rats fat ass about next year's draft.
The players and coaches may not care about next years draft, but the FO surely does. The FO has clearly shown their priority is the future and not this year, so that's why paying big money for an old average kicker is really dumb!

How does having the so-called 'average' all-time leader in 50-yard + FGs supporting coaches and teammates in 2023 adversely affect FO plans going forward?

P.S. The future of this team includes establishing a cohesion of purpose between FO, Coaches and players in 2023.

The consensus is that we're taking an entire year off to evaluate and grow. Where does Prater fit in that equation? Shouldn't we be finding a solution for the future?

Hopefully it doesn't take multiple seasons of crappiness to make that happen!

Prater, unlike the guy flipping burgers who once kicked at Bohunk Jr College, can turn a hard-fought effort on Sunday into a confidence-building victory in 2023.

If he's no longer available in 2024, they can line up kickers around the training facility in search of the next guy.

So now we're trying to win? I'm told constantly that we're trying to lose. What is it?

Why not do that now? Why kick the can down the road? If the plan is blow it up and get a high pick, keeping Prater makes no sense.

You want to lose games 19-26, not 7-40.

They need to have a somewhat competitive team on the field.

Who said that the plan is simply to blow off the 2023 season?

It's sure as heck isn't anyone putting in 12/15 hour days at HQ, the facility or guys who are going to put their bodies on the line come Sunday.

You're honestly saying that spending almost 4 million for Prater a year will be the difference between losing 19-26 vs. 7-40?

The entire board, the entire media, the team itself? Did you just come out of a coma? We are the OVERWHELMING favorites to have the #1 pick.

If you can't honestly admit that this season is a tank job, there is no scenario that will fit your criteria.

This may come as a shock to you - even terrible teams have people show up and appear to work! This isn't a participation trophy league!

Not him alone, but they need to trot out decent players where they can

Having a good kicking game is an area they don't want to give up on.

Except… he’s not a good kicker anymore. He’s average and injury prone.
