First off enough with Kirk Ferentz being discredited because Iowa's not playing great football.

College is all about recruiting and in the Big Ten players declare "sexy!" which means Ohio St, Penn St, and Michigan get commitment before Iowa.

It's been said by many respected NFL and College analysts that Ferentz does more with the least amount of talent in the Big Ten.

He recruits as well as he can and sometimes gets the big name kids out of high school from all the competition.

Best yet, he's an offensive line specialist which is exactly what the Cardinal's biggest weakness is.

He's also a member of the Belichick tree which is enormously popular right now.

He's got a Super Bowl ring from his time as a Raven.

... and because the Hawkeyes have been lackluster now would be the perfect time to try and lure him away.

But of course, with any coach, who'd risk career suicide by coaching the Cardinals?

Who's the Indianapolis OC (besides Manning)? I know he's kinda old, but he sure does seem to understand the value of "sense of urgency."

I wouldn't mind that guy in here. Maybe the thought of having Edge, Leinart, Boldin and Fitz to play with would be enticing to him?

.... and he is accustomed to winning without a defense.

The Cards have to go in one of two directions:

1. the Uber-Coach that can handle personnel as well as on field coaching, much like Denny currently. There are a limited number of guys who are qualified to fill that role: Fisher (although he has always had Floyd Reese), Vermeil, Jimmy Johnson, maybe a couple others

2. The on field coach. Lots to choose from in that the Cards can hire a good coordinator who is ready to move up. To go in this direction, they need a strong GM to handle the personnel side of the equation (and its not Rod Graves).

He's a 100 years old and you'd think he'd have gotten HC looks by now. I wonder if he is even interested.

The worst thing that the Cardials could do, I think we'll all agree, is sign a guy that would help "sell tickets". I put Gruden (anyone that thinks he'd be good for this roster hasn't been paying attention to the way the guy actually coaches), Jimmy Johnson (didn't do anything but tread water with the Dolphins), Vermeil (sorry, but what did he win in Kansas City, again?), Mike Singletary (what has he done for the 49ers Defense?) and Ron Rivera (has great, great talent on defense, but it's the offense that has had to be managed and schemed in Chicago) in this category. The Cards should have learned from Ryan, McGinnis, and Green that you hire coaches to win games, not sell tickets. Winning sells tickets better.

I like the Tom Moore idea. I like Bob Bratkowski in Cincy. I love Dan Henning from Carolina, who also has former head coaching experience. Either Carl Smith (OC) or Mike Smith (DC) in Jacksonville would be okay. I still like Mike Heimerdinger, OC-Broncos. I also like John Hufnagel, OC for the New York Giants (works without a burner WR, coached Tom Brady in New England).

Defensively, it's a little harder to guess. I love Gregg Williams, but he'll have his choice of coaching opportunities next season. I like Dale Lindsay, the LBs coach for the Redskins (Both John Fox and Jack Del Rio were LB coaches for the Giants before making The Leap to HC). I think Tim Lewis (DC-NY Giants) would be a great choice.

There are so many options out there, and I don't trust anyone in the Cardinal front office to make the correct one. Or even a correct one. This team needs to choose a general manager and get the Bidwill family out of the process. I know that it will kill Michael to do so, but his decision may be between getting more control or winning football games. My vote for GM goes to Kevin Colbert, Director of Football Operations, Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dan Henning was the head coach of the Arizona Wranglers.

I have the feeling that we'll do something like go 4-4 after the bye and Denny will be back next year as a lame duck. Just like the Bidwills did to Tobin in his last year. They should've fired Tobin or given him an extension, you don't lame duck anyone IMO. That would be the worst thing that could happen, so that's what I'm expecting. The worst.

Some good thoughts here. I like both Bob Bratkowski and Tim Lewis. They would be excellent choices.

Spot on.

Colbert is a good choice --

comes from an organization that is family run, is conservative with spending and are friends of the Bidwills (so you figure the Rooney's will give him a good recomendation) -- yet with all those similarities, the Rooney's know how to win regularly.

1. Heimerdinger - who I liked back when Denny was hired

or

2. Rivera - he is ready and has a high football intelligence.

Russ Smith.

I'm going to have to decline until ownership actually gives a crap. Hire a consultant, hire a GM, then hire a coach.

I'm actually down wiht not firing Green the rest of the season they should use that time to bring in an outside consultant and make the big decisions the Bidwills aren't qualified to make.

If Green becomes a distraction, fire him, I do worry that Leinart is going to get discouraged but an interim HC isn't going to save him from that. I guess this is why his agent held out for so much money, they got it, so unfortunately Matt is going to have to take one for the team and play for Green the next 8 games.

That which doesn't kill him and all that.

Hire John Mackovic as Offensive Coordinator. Keep him away from the team and just let him go to the press box on sunday and call plays. The guy was genius at playcalling and terrible at everything else associated with coaching.

I always wanted to see a team hire John as OC and Buddy Ryan as DC. Now that would be a fun sideline to watch.
