Established vet or an up and coming coordinator? College HC or someone already in the NFL?

Some names that will probably be talked about:

Kirk Ferentz, HC Iowa
Dick Vermiel
Jim Fassell
Jeff Fisher (if fired)
Ron Rivera, DC Chicago Bears
Mike Singletary, asst Head coach, LB coach SF

Who else is out there?

Young, fresh and up and coming coordinator. Someone who has fire in the belly and can coach millionaires up. Someone who will play to the strengths of the team.

Here's my order of preference:

1. Jeff Fisher (if fired)
2. Dick Vermiel
3. Kirk Ferentz, HC Iowa
4. Ron Rivera, DC Chicago Bears
5. Mike Singletary, asst Head coach, LB coach SF
...
186. Jim Fassell

Russ,

Why is it that Tedford's name is never mentioned for any NFL positions? Doesn't he run a pro style offense and whenever his quarterbacks are mentioned, everyone seems to say that he makes guys look better than they really are. What's the scoop on him?

Give me Jimmy Johnson

I would cry manly tears of joy but I think Miami ruined him. He made a few comments during today's pregame show that sounded like he wasn't interested in coaching again at all.

Kirk Ferentz, HC Iowa - Iowa is a mediocre football program. No thanks.
Dick Vermiel - no more retreads
Jim Fassell - no more retreads
Jeff Fisher (if fired) - no more retreads
Ron Rivera, DC Chicago Bears - possibly, but is it Lovie or Rivera?
Mike Singletary, asst Head coach, LB coach SF - um, have you seen the 49er defense?

We need an innovative up-and-comer and a budget for assistants.

I'd like a coach that came from a franchise that was traditional horrible loser, and turned them into a winner. Someone that understands the "depths" of bad franchises. Is there one out there? Someone like Tony Dungey at Indy (of course he won't leave Payton). Maybe John Gruden in Tampa, but Dungy was the one who really turned that franchise around.

The Bidwills would NEVER be able to hire the right young coach so don't get your hopes up for that. They will go after a "name" again to tease the fans into thinking things will change. I'm sure we'll hear Vermeil and Johnsons' name a lot.

Jeff Fisher WITH Norm Chow if possible. I think that would be best. I'd like to keep Clancy too.

+ 1. That would be ideal, but 100% won't happen. If we were lucky enough to land Fisher with Chow, which I don't think will happen, it'd be amazing if he wanted to keep clancy here.

Not just that, Fisher's schemes seems very different than Clancy's. Fisher is much more of the Buddy Ryan disciple, featuring an attacking defense with corners playing on the line, not 10 yards off it.

Ding, ding, ding...

Lets wait and see what happens. No more Fassels, Norv Turners of the wrold. Need someone who is firey, offensive minded, and, as stated, a budget for good assistants.

Norm Chow is not an NFL offensive coordinator. He'll be back in college next year either at UNC, Stanford, or as an OC at some powerhouse like Florida State.

I'd only want Fisher if he came with Chow.

Whats the fascination with Chow? His 'claim-to-fame' is he took a USC team , who could probably beat some nfl teams with the amount of talent it had on it, and make them, what? A good offense?

He is a good college coordinator, but what is his NFL resume? Completly different worlds.

Rapport with Leinart is top of mind for me...comfort level for our star QB in the OC.

I don't think it has to be an offensive minded HC (and I am not advocating anyone by saying that) but if it is a defensive minded HC, he better be able to hire a very good OC because there are some weapons on that side of the LOS.

No to Dick V, No to Fassel, no to Norv. We saw what a retread can do.

If we get a defensive minded guy I hope he does like Dungy when he arrived in Indy and let the offense score. I can't imagine anyone coming in here and thinking a good strategy would be to take the ball away from Q and Fitz.

The Titans won again today...and the staff will get some slack playing a rookie QB...Fisher's chances of remaining HC in Tennessee are pretty strong, IMO. Fisher also handled the Albert Haynesworth debacle with total class as well.

The new HC HAS to be a real bona fide OFFENSIVE coach who can call plays when necessary, if not call the plays all the time, a la Holmgren.

The way Steelers' OC Ken Whisenhunt helped to groom Big Ben...and the way in which he's so smart at establishing a balanced offense, right now he's get my vote.

Although...if indeed Bill Cowher may be on his way out in Pittsburgh, Whisenhunt may be a logical successor there.

If that's the case, my second choice right now would be Bengals' OC Bob Bratkowski, who like Whisenhunt, has groomed a young QB into a Pro Bowler and run a very efficient and productive offense...a 3 WR offense to boot.
