Why would you say that?

Why wouldn't I?

Why does anyone have an ounce of confidence in him as a defensive coordinator or someone who will setup the direction for the defense?

What players are getting amped up to be in a Phil Bennett system?

He had trouble pulling Texas talent to the defense at Baylor. How is he going to do better at ASU.

The Washington game may have saved his job..... It shouldn't have.

So they did speak with other candidates...

After the new model was developed, the coaching search began. Anderson was determined to find a candidate that would “set their ego aside and try something different.”

Along came Edwards, and although contrary to numerous speculations, Anderson said that he was not the only candidate for the job.

“We talked to the representatives and others for other candidates,” Anderson said. “You can believe we did that.”

Definitely not about money...he genuinely wants to be a coach again. He'll be one of the lowest paid coaches in the Pac, but his incentives will be higher than Graham's were.
This and I think in part a favor to Anderson. Eight years at ESPN, no interest in going back to NFL and Ray Anderson comes calling....that tells me all about the strong relationship between those two. It it similar to the Mora Jr hire at UCLA. Mora Jr wasn't exactly a success in NFL, granted he was younger (50 years old) when he was hired at UCLA but it was his first ever college coaching job. The big difference is he brought in his guys, he didn't inherit a staff and quickly hired coaches with strong recruiting backgrounds. Herm is being brought in to be that recruiting wild card. Hopefully, he has success early like Mora Jr.

Opportunity for improvement. This is a good outcome.

Keep the high performing, young OC and find new blood to replace aging, mediocre DC

Good move. Asu's defense has had major issues, and Bennett wasn't part of the solution. Hopefully we can bring someone in who can teach these kids how to tackle and not call full out blitz every play lol

Now they have to pay for another DC, will be interesting to see who they bring in with limited amount of money, maybe Herm has an old DC buddy from his NFL coaching tenure he can land.
